Michael is a great teacher and I look forward to my clarinet lessons each week. He is patient and explains the technical parts of playing very clearly. He gives good tips and teaches at an appropriate pace.
Conor has been a great guitar teacher for me and my playing has improved a lot by working with him so far!
Matthew is very professional musician. He took a lot of time to assist me preparing a very special song list for my husband's birthday dinner party. My family really enjoyed themselves especially because of his soulful sounds from playing the saxophone. He was mesmerizing. And, we're going to invite him back in the near future. Thanks, Matthew!
I've been taking saxophone lessons with Josh for about a month now and I've been very happy with the experience. I had never played before and Josh has been great about teaching me the basics at a good pace. He is very nice and professional. Definitely recommend!
We contacted Aakash Mittal about clarinet lessons for our son after he gave a presentation at our son's 5th grade instrumental music class. Were very glad we did. Our son improved quickly during the three years he took lessons from Aakash. He received music awards at Centennial Middle School, twice auditioned into CU Boulders Middle School Honor Band, made first clarinet at CUs Middle School Band Camp, and auditioned into Boulder Highs Wind Ensemble. To cap his time with Aakash, he gave his own clarinet recital, including three duets with Aakash, as well as the 3rd movement of Mozarts Clarinet Concerto with piano accompaniment. More importantly, the process that led to these accomplishments was genuinely enjoyable. Our son started off with a half-hour lesson each week, and liked it so much that he quickly moved to an hour lesson. Aakash has an excellent teaching style. After our son played a piece, Aakash would ask what he thought went well, and what needed work. Aakash rarely had negative criticism and focused on what elements would improve a piece, and in getting students to honestly evaluate themselves. As our son gained skill and confidence, they got down to brass tacks more quicklybut still without him ever feeling guilty or chastised. Aakashs primary instrument is the saxophone, but he thoroughly understands the clarinet. Lessons included instrument-specific tasks like fine pitch control, breathing, alternate fingerings, tonguing, and embouchure, as well as broader topics of playing exact rhythm, tempo changes, pitch, dynamics, and phrasing. Most importantly, he understands that, as time-consuming as these components are, they are ultimately just technical elements. After our son mastered them for a hard piece, theyd then work on exploiting them to play music that swoops and soars and comes from the heart. And though Aakashs favorite style is pretty hyperactive jazz, he is comfortable with a wide range of musical styles. Our son played the MapleStory video game for years, and Aakash helped him learn transcriptions of several songs from the game. For one recital, our son found several Legend of Zelda transcriptionsevoking exclamations from other students like We can play game music for a recital? I didnt know that! As our sons taste gravitated toward classical music, Aakash was right there with him. Aakash was especially good at helping our son work on challenging pieces. Our son is always choosing music that seems a little (or sometimes, a lot) beyond his level. For example, the Mozart Clarinet Concerto is really a virtuoso recital piece. They took the 3rd movement one section at a time, sometimes playing very slowly to get the rhythms and notes right. Aakash had him try to play along with a full orchestra recording (where it was clear that playing at full tempo makes the piece exponentially more difficult.) Okay, that didnt work, so they concentrated on getting it right at a slightly more relaxed tempo. Eventually, we brought in a friend of Aakashs on piano, and the three of them worked on how to coordinate and figure out who was in charge of the rhythm. It made an exhilarating finale to our sons solo recital. Aside from his skills as a teacher, Aakash is also quite practical. He knew that his own concert schedule affected his teaching schedule, so was good about trying to make up missed classes during the week, and was flexible when our own schedule interfered with lessons. Were also impressed with his ambitionhe knows that great musicians dont sit around waiting to be discovered, but actively promote themselves and make things happen. We have seen him playing live with various people many times, and have enjoyed the variety of musical styles and partners. (Especially when he plays with electric violin. Hint, hint!) We enjoyed our three years with Aakash, and had mixed feelings about him leaving for Indiahappy for him, but sad that we were losing a great teacher. We can whole-heartedly recommend him for just about anything hes trying to do.
Corey is an excellent Saxophone instructor. He prepared me more than adequately to both audition for and succeed as a Saxophone performance major at Lebanon Valley College. His commitment to my success as well as his ability as a saxophone player pushed me to be prepared and ready for my time in college.
Highly recommend Jim - enthusiastic, knowledgable and patient teacher of the Saxophone. I am thoroughly enjoying my lessons.
Jack makes everything fun and easy to learn. I’ve been going to his lessons for 4 months, yet it feels like it’s been longer because of the improvement and how well he connects with everyone. He is incredibly talented and has years of experience and knowledge of drums. I love his lessons and I would definitely reccoment him to anyone interested in learning.
Do not hesitate to work with Ken, he is a wonderful teacher! My 14-year old son has been taking alto sax lessons with Ken for over a year and will be entering high school in September. I can see Ken being a long-term fixture during my son's high school years. Ken is incredibly talented and loves to share his knowledge and experience with his students. He does it very well. He is VERY easy to work with and he has a great sense of humor, which my son loves. My son very much enjoys his lessons. In working with my son, Ken has upped my son's "game" in so many ways and I can't wait to see what the future holds musically for him. Ken came highly recommended to me and for good reason. He opens up new worlds and new doors for his students. He is very invested in his students' lessons and wants the best for them. If you have the opportunity to work with Ken, take it.
I have been studying music and learning to play the saxophone with Mary for a year. I have been through many music teachers in my life as I used to play the piano since i was 10 years old. Most of the music teachers I have found are only interested in teaching how to play the instrument. Mary not only teaches the finer things about your instrument of choice but brings to it her overall knowledge of music theory, holistic studies, and her love of God and is able to wrap it all together where you know without a doubt music is definitely a gift from God. The one thing that truly amazes me about Mary is she takes the time to gets to know you, your personality, what techniques enable you to learn the best, your experiences and background and is able to intertwine it with her knowledge and experience and brings about a whole new understanding that I have never experienced before with other music teachers. What touches me the most and demonstrates that Mary really is concerned about the individual coming to a wonderful understanding about music is that she prays for each of her students before a lessons and ask God to help her communicate what that particular person needs to understand that day and how through music she can glorify our Lord and Saviour. I truly am blessed to find and work with Mary. She definitely brings about a whole new world in music.
Casey Berman is a wonderful saxophone teacher and warm person to be around. His knowledge of theoretical practice as well as saxophone playing are both at a very high level. He is great at explaining concepts and conceiving of exercises. Highly recommended for those interested in learning how to play the saxophone or how to apply theoretical/improvising concepts on the saxophone!
Over the past two years with Maksim, my 11-year-old son learned so much and improved greatly. Maksim equipped my son with strong foundations through various trainings and introduced him to lots of different music pieces. Maksim gave effective instructions for pratices during lessons. He related well with my son and made him motivated to do well and to enjoy music that he was playing. I highly recommend Maksim as an execllent, responsible and professional teacher with great enthusiasm in helping the students to love the clarinet and music.
I enjoyed my lessons with Mr. Dreyer. He's an amazing teacher. He was very patient with me and taught me a lot of techniques. Can't wait for my next lesson!
My students learn about performing all styles of music as well as developing the ear and learning musicality. Most score highly in NYSMA competitions.
Noel was very responsive and easy going when setting up the first meeting. He was very kind and patient in explaining everything, starting from the very basics (this was my first lesson with no prior experience and very little-to-no knowledge about notes etc) what kind of mouthpiece to purchase, how to put it on correctly, the basics of the instrument itself etc. The lesson felt very comfortable and informative. Noel was friendly and encouraging and seemed very experienced and passionate about the sax and teaching the magical musical ways! I'm looking forward to our next lesson together
I am a certified New York State music teacher with twenty-nine years of experience. I hold a Bachelors degree in Music Education from the Indiana University School of Music as well as a Masters Degree in Music Education from the University of North Texas. Warm and engaging are words people use to describe my teaching style. I teach piano, clarinet and saxophone using motivational techniques which help to develop strong playing skills, musicianship, sight-reading skills, as well as knowledge of music theory and improvisation. Lessons are never dull but fun and exciting, taught with humor and personality, leading to joy and fulfillment through musical expression. I am very eclectic and open to all styles of music; not afraid to motivate and engage students through music that interests them. The use of colorful graphic images, as well as audio and video recordings of professional musicians help lead to understanding of the many musical concepts students must learn on their way to learning to play a musical instrument at a high level. Instruction also supports preparation for the NYSSMA Solo Festival where needed.
