Great and very professional job on a bathroom remodel. We hadn't planned to get a remodel so soon in our new house, but had a leak and learned that the original contractor didn't do the tub / tiling properly. ADAD quickly assessed the problem and worked with us to develop a solution. They started the job very soon after we agreed to hire them. Resetting our tub and retiling the shower area took about three days, plus an extra hour or so to patch up some remaining issues. The company's leader, William, was very responsive to our requests and concerns throughout, and made sure we were happy with the work before declaring the job done. He was also upfront about how different options would affect the final price. And for the mobile savvy, they take Venmo payments! Overall, we're happy with the end result.

9we were very impressed with Nertil when he came to give us our estimate. He was right on time, met our cat and dog, and told us exactly what would be needed to complete the job. We decided to use London Construction that same day. We made an appointment for 11/16. Nertill and his assistant arrived promptly and set to work. They completed the job quickly and professionally. Before he left, Nertil instructed me on the initial maintenance of our new tile flooring. Not only did the two of them clean up thoroughly, but the pyramid also swept our front steps. I intend to work with London again in the near future.

Replace bathroom tile, renovate bathroom, build new closet, replace kitchen sink/faucets/counter, replace radiator, install recessed lighting. Working with Ariel was a pleasure. Jacob and Joseph understood the work completely, had great advice on the design of my small Manhattan studio. They started on time every day were easy to communicate with and were fairly priced. I would def recommend them to friends and family.

I appreciate Joe's honesty. My parents roof was improperly done. Some of the paper that was put down blew off. This exposed the underportion which caused a great leak. I called various roofers and they all said that it was improperly done so the whole roof need to be redone. These estimates were multiple thousands of dollars. I paniced. I needed this issue taken care of immediately. It was raining and freezing, damage was occuring inside and I was scared. Joe came climbed the ladder, started ripping up the loose paper and said I got this. The section was well passed 10 ft. Of loose roofing paper. He explained what was the issue charged me less than 90% of the estmates I was quoted by the other roofers and fixed the issues. He almost did 1/3 of my roof over. Laid tar, tar roof paper and flashed the seams. Warrenteed the roof and extended to reflash my older seams in the spring. He came to take care of a situation, satisfy his customer with the job and did so. He did not use scare tactics as the others did. I appreciate his honesty to do only what needed to be done.

I have a flat roof of a 4 family house in Hoboken that keeps leaking ever since I purchased the house 6 years ago. I first found out about Wisebuild Construction from my neighbor and figured I would give them shot to fix my problem. David was the first person I got a quote from and I never looked back. He was by far the most professional and honest compared to any other guy who came for an estimate. He explained everything to me before the job started, and great communication throughout the process. Never shy about providing the full information of the material he used. David and his team did a GREAT job on a complete replacement of our roof. Have not had any leaks since, and the roof looks great. I would highly recommend Wisebuild Construction as your roofing contractor. My son-in-law also works in construction and I know what a professional crew works and looks like. Extremely satisfied and have recommended to my friends and family. We also got our 25 year warranty for our roof and could not be happier.

Emerson's team was friendly, professional, mostly punctual, with many skill sets (plumbing, electrical, building, tiling, roofing, HVAC). This project involved coordinating the start date with a demolition specialist I contracted for the chimney removal and 1/2 bathroom demolition down to studs. While the demolition contractor provided his license information, etc. Emerson went in person to submit all permit paperwork, personally dealt with inspectors, and even kindly submitted permits for both demolition and rebuild under his license to accelerate the start date. Emerson's pricing excluded demolition and any fixtures or finishing pieces. The project was estimated to last 4 weeks, and took just over 8 weeks to complete (weekdays only). Lesson learned? Always expect to double your estimated work period! During this time, our 1 functional shower broke, and Emerson agreed to help us with the repair (replacing the shower trim, w/ existing valve) as his people were onsite. Granted, he charged us about what an emergency plumber would have without communicating the amount upfront ($300), so I'm not sure that was the most economical route, but he made it convenient. The only area I would say we had some frustration was in ongoing communication (status, materials update, discussing issues, etc.) with Emerson himself. There were occasions where I should have been contacted to discuss an issue with tile, etc. but rather than do so promptly, Emerson waited until we were able to connect in person, which happened maybe once a week, delaying the process. After this occurred a few times, I began to contact his foreman (Albert) directly, who was much better with communicating updates or questions. There was no point where I felt our project was being neglected so he could focus on other new jobs, mainly because we had our foreman, Albert, as the point person for this job. That was key for us. There were days where no one was present moving the job forward though, and communication to help us understand status at those times would have been helpful for our peace of mind. New or unfamiliar people working in your home while you're not present is always stressful, though I felt we established a reasonable level of trust from the start. Emerson warranted his team's work for 2 years from date of completion (today, 6/12/18) which gives me peace of mind in case of future issues. For now, we're finished and our new bathroom is beautiful! Would we use Emerson and his team again? Probably. Next time around, I’ll be sure to communicate with our project foreman directly on status and questions; and I’ll plan to be home at least 1 day a week once the project (inevitably) goes over its originally estimated length.

Hands down, Home Improvements by Matt should be your first choice when deciding to do an upgrade in your home. Matt, the owner not only examined my home and the needs I had, but he had an estimate that provided a complete breakdown of prices so I knew what I would be paying for. Matt has a sharp eye and was able to identify a number of things in my home that others had previously missed, such as mold in my bathroom. He was honest with all of his recommendations and never suggested anything that didn’t need to be fixed/upgraded in order to make extra profit. Unlike other contractors I had estimates from, Matt gave me an estimate that was competitive and fair. I honestly have nothing but praise for the work Matt did on my home and the upgrades came out absolutely beautiful. The trim that he did was precise. The tiling in the bathroom is gorgeous. I can tell he takes pride in his work. I am beyond pleased with the experience I had with Matt as well as the results that surpassed my expectations. There is no question that Matt will be my choice again in the future.

I was referred to Pride Development & Construction by a friend five years ago, after my flooded basement was not properly repaired by another contractor. I had severe cracks under my basement windows and along the back basement wall. Pride explained to me in detail what needed to be done to correct the problem. The cracks needed to be sealed from the inside and outside with a high quality sealant and a membrane barrier wrapped around the outside basement wall. Just in case water made its way into the basement, a sump pump would be installed. I was able to negotiate reasonable price. Pride started the tedious work of removing the sealant left by the other contractor. The also found and removed debris blocking the underground water pipe which prevented proper drainage whenever there was rain. The job was completed timely and the basement has been BONE DRY ever since. As a result, it has never been necessary to activate the sump pump. The quality of Pride's work is of the highest caliber and their professionalism is second to none!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
