We moved a larger one bedroom from one end of the city to the other. The team that showed up took care of all the heavy lifting. They were very experienced and treated my stuff just like their own. The quote that I was given at the outset was exactly reflected in the final price. Moving is usually a painful process, but Simply Moving made it a lot easier. Would highly recommend.

I had a really excellent experience with Dyno Moving. I was moving to a 5th Fl walk-up and the crew was extremely professional, fast, and careful with my things. Plus, the move was super reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend Dyno Moving and will use them again the next time I move.

Unfortunately I had a terrible experience with this company. It took them 12 hours to move my 2 bedroom apt, and this included my wife and I constantly moving items as well; this includes us constantly loading our own hand truck and assisting to carry heavy objects. In the end, I still needed to do two extra trips back to my apartment just to complete the move. In addition, this process took so long, I had to feed the movers, and none of my furniture was reassembled. In fact the hardware for my bed was left behind in the old apartment. If I didn't mention it, the old apartment is a 40 minute drive away. Finally, SEVEN pieces of furniture were significantly damaged in the process (pictures attached), presumably because they brought too small of a truck and were trying to force it in. The supervisor of this crew consistently said he was given insufficient equipment by his boss. When I explained all of this to the person in charge he blamed me for having too much stuff and gave me a "discount" of $200. I had to do the moving/furniture assembly myself, and thousands of dollars of my furniture was broken...And it ONLY cost us $1500. I would not recommend using this company and if you do, I would pre negotiate a flat rate, and request a copy of their insurance.

Team: These guys did an amazing job. Jeff and his team are very professional and know the true meaning of good business. Any question that I had about the move were answered quickly and clearly. I didn't feel as if I was left in the dark. I didn't have a single concern or question when I made the decision to hire Jeff and his team. Move Day; On the day of the move, these gentleman showed up almost 30 minutes before the time promised. Work was professional and clean. I haven't seen guys work this fast and efficiently. In absolutely NO way did Jeff and his team try to take advantage of me financially or with Time. Everything was packed neatly and wrapped if needed. I was pleased to see that they completed all of their work in less time than I expected. Recommendation: I would highly recommend these guys to anyone looking to make a move (short/long distance), moving furniture/goods or help in setting up your home. The service provided Jeff and his team is very diverse. If you want quality work in a very decent price, please don't think twice before calling these guys. I have moved in the past and know what a pain if could be. These guys made it seem effortless. Jeff and Team, thank you for the smooth move without any trouble. I will definitely keep you guys in mind if I need your services in the future or if someone else is looking. Keep up the great work and I promise you will never have trouble in your business. Thanks for your ethical business practice in a time where it is hard to find good workers. Best, Jay

We used them for moving 1bed room furniture. They did a very efficient work and it was hassle free for us. They directly talked to management and their arrival/departure was seamless to us. Before picking up, they went over all the items we discussed in initial quote and add if something more was needed to be transferred. Then gave a final amount; so that there are no issues later for payment.

Great experience with Ample Moving started with my quote and then follow up call and email with Stefan. He explained thoroughly the whole moving process which is not an easy job, but he sounds professional, reliable and friendly. On the moving day everything was seamless and without a hassle: movers loaded boxes first, took a part my bed and couch, wrapped with bubble and cardboard my china cabinet, and placed my tv in the box. Very fast and they worked as a trained crew! The moving took 4 hours and Iwas totally happy with my movers! Thank you Stefan and his guys, you made me feel confident with your performance!!!

Jamie was very flexible and made everything work! I called Jamie two days before I needed to move and he was able to fit me in. I had about 45 boxes that needed to get moved from my apartment in Brooklyn Heights to the Amtrak loading dock on 31st between 7th and 8th Avenues. I left him a message and he called me back right away. He was able to squeeze me in after a small move he had scheduled on Thursday. He quoted me his rate for 2 moving men. His prices are very reasonable! The day of the move, one of his men had a family emergency, so Jamie came to do the job himself. I stayed with the van while my fiancee and Jamie loaded his van. We saved money this way. I lived on the second floor in an elevator building. The elevator was acting up and kept going to the basement for no reason but other thsn that, everything went smoothly. Jamie ecen took down my mattress, boxspring, haeadboard and bedframe down to the curb. My fiancee and I took the train and met Jamie at the loading dock. The timing worked out perfectly! Jamie noticed some of my boxes needed tape so he just started taping boxes while we waited for Amtrak to come get the boxes. He discounted the move from the rate he quoted me. We got the rate for a one man job. I was very happy! Overall we had an excellent experience! Jamie is a very experienced mover and I would not hesitate to recommended him and Lucky JAK!

12/3/17 Was the 2nd time I hired Brian from Queens Junk Removal /Moving to remove junk from my apartment. I live in a 4th floor walk up and once again, Brian and his assistant Mack were punctual and prompt, Brian confirming the appointment the day before, and texting the day of the appointment that he was on the way. They arrived on time and fully prepared for the job. They worked very hard, quickly, and efficiently to remove alot of stuff, including a large metal frame from a sofa that I used to have. They are very professional and never leave a mess or damage with their work. They are very polite, courteous and responsive to all matters. The cost is very reasonable and I received a discount from Brian because this was the 2nd time I hired him. I highly recommend Brian of Queens Junk Removal/Moving and thank him for his excellent work and professionalism!

Excellent company with people with excellent work ethic. We hired them for a long distance move. The movers were very professional and helped us reduce the stress of moving. Our new place had hardwood floors and when we told them about it, they brought rubber protectors and blankets to protect the floors. They keep everything clean and neat. They made it all easy for us. Really appreciate it.

More like "great guy with big van". I have never used thumbtack before and needed to move the same day. I contacted Guy with a van at noon, and by 1:30 we were moving! The price was very fair and specifically tailored to accommodate what I needed moving. An all-round excellent, stress-free experience : ).

I waited until the last minute to plan my move (days before), and Moved help me figure out everything from clothing donations to negotiating a great price on quality movers. This was also my first time using movers and my Moved moving assistant, Erin, was able to answer all of my questions about the process. Truly all I had to do was download the app, tell them what I needed and they made it happen. App is also very easy. Overall great and would definitely use them again/recommend to others stressed about a move!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
