With 20 years of experience playing guitar and studying music theory, I bring both technical skill and musical insight to every lesson and performance. I have trained in multiple styles, from rock, jazz fusions, pop, contemporary, and classical environments allowing me to tailor lessons to each student’s goals and interests. In addition to guitar, I have experience with and studied, bass guitar, piano, drum kit, and other orchestral instruments. I attended McNally Smith College of Music in Minneapolis for music composition and was accepted into Berklee College of Music in Boston, further honing my understanding of music theory and creative expression. I am currently an airline pilot and instructor teaching jet aircraft systems/procedures, bringing a disciplined, structured approach to all my instruction while keeping it engaging and accessible. Jeff is a phenomenal guitar instructor. I am a 71 year old guy who took a year of lessons at age 8 and then was self taught. Along the way, college, marriage and children took precedence and I played infrequently. By the time I was ready to pick it up again, I had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and my fine motor coordination was greatly reduced. My recent attempts to play were frustrating to say the least and I thought, not terribly optimistically, that perhaps getting some instruction and correcting years of bad habits and learning things I neglected would somehow be rewarding. I did not hold out much hope, as I had tried this once before and the frustration of trying to move my fingers in new ways was too great.  I mention all of this to provide context for my review of Jeff.  Within a few minutes of sitting down with Jeff, I found that he had a remarkable sense of what I could do and what I needed. I realized that I would be going back to some basics and was concerned about how I would feel about that. Jeff was supportive and encouraging and I now feel that despite my personal difficulties, this was the best decision I have made in a long time. I look forward to picking up the guitar and practicing, something I have not felt since I began at 8.  Jeff can provide the foundation needed for beginners to flourish and the techniques for experienced player so to improve. He has an ideal temperament for teaching, always encouraging and positive. I wish I had found him years ago.
