Joining Magic Fitness is the best thing I have ever done. Magic is a great trainer. He really knows his business. He pushes me to do things I never even thought of. I have more energy than I have in years. I look forward to my workout and always leave there laughing. At 65 I never thought I would be working a speed bag. Where else do you get one on one training, watch DVD's of my choice while getting the best workouts ever? Oh, and the inches are coming off too!

I've been training with Devan since January 2013 and had the goal of losing weight and improving my over all fitness. I started at almost 215 lbs and around 25% body fat. Within 4 months I had dropped down to 180 lbs and about 17% body fat. Now we're working on building muscle to improve my performance in the recreational hockey league I play in. I have already seen improvements in my endurance and overall strength and can now keep up with other players that were much better skaters then me. Devan has always worked around my schedule and been a pleasure to work with. I never thought I would actually enjoy going to the gym, never mind pay someone to watch me do all the work.

Rob is my fiance and I personal trainer! We have been to a couple of his boot camps in the past and have had great results, but was too busy to attend and commit full time. I recently given birth to my daugther in February and I discussed a time frame with him when I felt confidant enough to get back in the gym...which eventually...(I was making excuses). Rob knew my determination run deep but I felt lost and out of it after giving birth. He reached out to me, convince me and offer a trail session and it was awesome and was able to commit full time! He work with our schedule due to having a newborn. He cares about us and his other clients! I have had other personal trainer in the past but nothing is like the relationship that is present now. I been training now going on 2 months and I feel great, losing my baby weight I gained, have tons of energy! I plan to train with him for a long time! I highly recommend his services. My fiance and I are in a group fitness class, but he always work with us one-to-one to make sure we are doing the workout properly and switch /change a workout with modifications if needed. Pros: Customize meal plans, family atmosphere, and results!

I absolutely LOVE training with Gev!!! He is so knowledgeable in what he does. He takes the time to listen and understand what you want to achieve and tailors every workout towards it. So far, every workout has been insanely challenging, and he is always pushing me to my limits. I like how he educates me on nutrition and diet and constantly follows up on my eating habits to make sure I stay on track. Gev makes working out amazingly fun, not to mention, his charming personality is just an added bonus. I strongly recommend him, if you're looking for the perfect trainer. His passion to help others reflects in his work... and he will always be my inspiration. :)

Mick takes his time to show you how to do things correctly, challenges you to be better every session, and always has a positive outlook. Our sessions are always tough and rewarding. I've been working with Mick for 30 days and within this short period of time I have had some amazing things happen. I've lost 9lbs (earlier than expected), overall body appearance has changed, increased endurance/cardio, learned how to fuel my body by eating correctly, and most importantly dropped 2 different blood pressure medications for high blood pressure. I'm so pleased with my results that my son has started training with Mick as well. When you make the decision to invest in your health you want to work with the best professionals possible to help you exceed your goals. Without a doubt Mick is the coach who can get you there.

Ken communicates well about scheduling, and I found his flexibility very helpful! He'll adjust the workout according to what you need/want to work on. I used to be a big Crossfit guy before getting away from fitness for about 7 years and Ken made sure I could get back into fitness! He talked with me about diet in addition to perfecting my technique every step of the way! My form and strength improved miles in my first month with him. 5/5 Defo recommend!!!

Kyle is the best trainer I have ever had! He makes fun/unique meal plans, I am not restricted to eating the same meals every week. He’s also super kind and motivating while training. I have lost 4% body fat in 1 month of working with him. I feel more energized, happy, and healthy...I wouldn’t be able to accomplish my health or fitness goals without his guidance.

I have been working with Marcia for two years now and could not be happier. She is a results driven instructor without being overbearing or obnoxious. Marcia has taken me from a size 22 to a size 10/12. She also does conditioning training with our 12 year old son on a weekly basis. He is heavily involved in club soccer. His coaches and other parents have asked what we are doing with him because the marked improvement in his performance. In short, I would highly recommend Marcia and Integral Fitness to anyone at any level of fitness. I have gone from someone that never even thought about exercise to enjoying and looking forward to on a daily basis. I have even done several races. That is something, two years ago I would have bet my house could never happen.

Was looking for personal training in a low-key comfortable environment without the "sell" larger gyms place on you. Kelly is great. Took a few sessions to evaluate my strength/fitness and now focuses on areas I need improvement. His background in Hypnotherapy, Meditation, and Life Coaching is a plus in that you can't help but benefit from his positivity and outlook.

After three months of training with Bonnie we started kicking around the idea of maybe trying to do a show .So we picked out a date and a show and the work began . Bonnie pushed me to levels I've never been to before . After twelve weeks of hard core exercise cardio and a stricked diet I walked on stage at the legends classic and took second my first show ! The following year she trained me I walked on stage at took first !!! And now she's started training me for a up coming show and with her professionalism and drive I know together we will bring home another trophy .

I’ve been training with Lisa for just about 2 years now or maybe a little over. Her training and work ethic is spot on. She tailors your workout program specifically to your needs. Through training with her I’ve gained a great rapport with her which is important for a successful outcome. I’ve gained other special friends as well through her network of clients. I recommend Lisa because her passion to help you meet your goals over exceeds all expectations.

Hannah is the best of the best when it comes to personal trainers in Las Vegas. I started working out with Hannah years ago and she got me into the best shape I’d ever been in, and helped me achieve the look I wanted. I picked back up with her recently after she moved back to town, and I’ve been very happy with my progress so far. Not only is she super nice, she’s attentive—never pushing you to where you’d injure yourself, but instead motivating you to reach your full potential. I look foraward to my workouts every week and am excited to get back into the best shape of my life! I know for a fact I couldn’t do this on my own (I’ve tried). Hannah switches up the workouts consistently so that training never gets boring, and she can help with nutrition, too. Don’t put off your health goals any longer. Give Hannah a call! You won’t regret it.

I had the best experience training with John Kelly! he is a awesome teacher and friend. I witnessed major results with my physical appearance and strength. He always pushed me to my limits and taught me how to power lift the right form and structure. Also, I never felt like I was the only one doing the work. He did same or similar work outs as I was doing so I never felt alone! Following up he always sent work outs that I could do on my own if he was not present. Overall I recommend John to everyone looking to push their body goals to max! He is a lean mean training machine ;)

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Is kickboxing hard?

Kickboxing is as intense a workout as you want it to be. As with any fitness regimen, the more effort you put in, the more results you will get. The type of kickboxing you do will determine how physically challenging it is. Combat or self-defense kickboxing, where you train in a martial arts studio with sandbags or spar against combat partners, can be an intense physical workout. Group kickboxing classes that use sandbags as part of the workout will also elevate the degree of intensity, because of the level of exertion punching and kicking the bag requires. Cardio kickboxing group fitness, which employ kicking and punching moves but no sandbags, has comparable intensity to jogging but works a wider range of muscles while increasing strength, flexibility and coordination. Here are some of the core kickboxing moves:

  • Cross: A straight punch that you throw slightly across your body, using your dominant hand.
  • Jab: A quick, straight, face punch. Usually thrown with the non-dominant hand.
  • Uppercut: A punch thrown up from the midsection (using either hand) that connects with the underside of your opponent’s chin.
  • Hook: A curved punch (using either hand) that connects with your competitor’s jaw or chin.
  • Side kick: A kick delivered when your competitor is at an angle to you. Raise your leg to the side, then bend at the knee to deliver the kick.
  • Front kick: A kick delivered straight on while you are facing your opponent.
  • Roundhouse kick: A kick delivered by swinging a leg up in a clockwise or counterclockwise motion (depending on which leg you’re using) with momentum to strike the opponent with the instep of the foot.

What is kickboxing?

Kickboxing is a type of martial art whose basic moves are widely practiced in personal and group fitness regimens. In combat kickboxing, two competitors fight using four points of contact — both hands and both feet — unlike traditional boxing, where competitors are allowed to use their hands. In competitive kickboxing, opponents must remain standing, and no fighting can occur on the mat or ground. Kickboxing has its roots in Muay Thai and other ancient martial arts. Some elemental moves from kickboxing include roundhouse kicks, back kicks, hooks, uppercuts and more.

Modern group fitness kickboxing is practiced in gyms and workout studios across the country. It draws its moves from combat kickboxing, but instead of fighting with an opponent, participants perform jabs, crosses, punches and kicks in instructor-led, choreographed routines set to music. Personal trainers also incorporate kickboxing moves into workout routines, spending time punching and kicking the bag. These strength-building moves, mixed with high-intensity intervals, boost heart rate and increase strength.

Is kickboxing good exercise?

Kickboxing is great exercise. It works your whole body and really gets your heart pounding. Kickboxing combines upper- and lower-body movements like roundhouse kicks and uppercut punches that boost calorie burning. The type of kickboxing you do will determine how much exercise you get. Kickboxing training that takes place in a martial arts studio will involve kicking and punching a sandbag or sparring with a competitor, both of which will sharply increase the amount of exercise you’ll experience in a kickboxing session. Comparatively, a study by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) found that women doing group fitness cardio kickboxing burned between 6.45 and 8.3 calories per minute, or approximately 350-450 calories burned during an hour-long class. This is roughly what you can expect to burn with jogging or similar exercise, but ACE says that cardio kickboxing offers the added benefits of increased strength and flexibility, sharper reflexes, and improved coordination. Whether you’re training to fight competitively, learning kickboxing as a form of self-defense, or taking cardio kickboxing at your local gym, you’ll get a full-body workout with positive health benefits.

What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.

What should you wear to kickboxing?

What you wear to kickboxing can vary based on the setting. For kickboxing group fitness classes that are part of a gym’s cardio class schedule, standard fitness attire is appropriate. Athletic sneakers, pants or shorts that you can comfortably kick in without getting tangled or flashing anyone, and a top that allows for easy movement when punching and jabbing are all good choices. You won’t need protective gear or gloves, as most cardio-based kickboxing classes do not use punching bags.

Kickboxing training that takes place at a martial arts studio typically requires protective gear. You may need boxing gloves (beginners may want 12-ounce or heavier gloves for more cushioning) and hand wraps that protect and support your hands under the gloves while you punch the bag. If your kickboxing training includes sparring with opponents, you’ll need a mouthguard and any protective head and body gear your studio requires. Always be sure to bring plenty of water, too.
