stop looking and just book this company! My boyfriend and I were wary about moving companies bc we'd heard horror stories about misqoutes and last minute "fee's." This company communicated the entire process, provided insurance forms, showed up on time, moved lighting fast, packed with care and caution and stuck to the qouted price! The crew was so nice and pleasant. I truly cant say enough and feel bad for ever being a skeptic! Who can say they had an "easy" moving day? This girl!!

Extremely inexpensive when compared to other moving companies. Dyno sent three very efficient guys who were prompt and had my stuff out of my apartment and into a storage facility in exactly two hours. Weather conditions were terrible and they were still very quick in getting things onto and off the truck. The main person I dealt with, Otto, was awesome. Incredibly polite and accommodating. I highly recommend this company if you need efficiency and are on a budget.

We hesitated to work with a relatively smaller company compared to FlateRate, etc (we’ve had our bike stolen and bed frame broken with other small moving companies) but picked these guys because of the greats reviews and I am so happy that I did. These guys are AMAZING. David was very prompt in getting back to me when making an appointment, negotiating a price, getting COIs and the actual move. They arrived in the morning and started loading at a lightening speed. I watched them carefully wrapping furnitures, TVs, mirrors and even my exercise bike! And they made sure if I had any fragile items in my boxes then took extra care when stacking them. My roommate and I were moving from one 2 bedroom to two different studio units and they made sure to separate each belonging. When we arrived at the new place, unloading was even faster and I got all my stuff carefully placed at where I wanted them to be. I normally don’t write online reviews like this but I decide to do so mainly because of their quality service and, smiles - throughout the whole move, on the hottest day. I move every two years and had worked with numerous moving companies and fair price movers was by far the best of all. Thanks for making our move a breeze.

Just had an amazing move with Kobe and his team. They moved us from Brooklyn to Queens in record time. They packed everything perfectly and then placed them again in my new apartment very quickly. I am shocked how efficiently each of them was performing. They arrived earlier and they were cheaper than other moving companies. Highly recommended

My first time writing a review but i felt that i had to since i spent so much time searching through other reviews for differents moving companies. I read horror stories of what could happen so I was really worried about picking a good moving company. I am so happy to say that CCS moving was awesome! They were very nice and fast it only took 3 & 1/2 hours to move me! The total ended up being $ 380 (including tip) which is far better than other estimates I was receiving. Definitely recommend!

Dariusz and company were excellent moving men. They took careful care of our old and valuable and extremely heavy furniture. We had items being moved from the basement, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floor with no complaints, unlike other moving companies. They were prompt and on time even though the forecast called for rain. Highly recommended, 5 stars. Thanks

Upon submitting my request for an installer I received a message from Mr. Glass offering his services at a very reasonable rate. I contacted Mr. Glass by phone to discuss what I would actually like installed. He was very professional, knowledgeable and attentive in assisting me. I asked about where I can get the best rates on my wall mounts, to my surprise he went as far as to offer to order the items I needed for my television wall mounts. Before my appointment I reached out yet again to Mr. Glass regarding the maintenance of the wires after the install, I didn't want dangling wires. Mr. glass again offered to order the equipment needed to be brought on the day of my appointment. Both times the cost of the items he offered to order were amazingly reasonable. Mr. glass showed up promptly for our scheduled appointment. I had just moved in the day before and was not yet organized but Mr. Glass did not let this affect his work performance he kindly maneuvered stepping over/moving items so that he could complete the job. Considering his working conditions with my move he did a FANTASTIC job!!! I am 100% satisfied with my install (s). Thanks again Mr. Glass!

I will admit I was skeptical about using this site for a moving company, but after reading all of the great reviews I thought I would give it a try. I am so glad that I picked this company as they were early, professional and did the job within a great amount of time. I had 3 workers and the size of the studio (amount of stuff) and it took 4 hours to move from an elevator building to a 2nd floor walk up. I was nervous about my TV as it is big and brand new, but they took it off the wall and transported it with no issues. I would definitely recommend this company for any type of moves and would use them again in the future!

Very very satisfied! The team and team leader Alex are kind and polite, flexible and accommodating. The team is hard working while able to take initiative and take care of everything necessary independently. As a woman moving an entire household I was very very glad to have these guys as movers. I was completely comfortable with them handling everything in a safe and thinking along way. I needed unscheduled extra service for a couple of things, which not only wasn't a problem at all but at same time there wasn't in any way the attempt to try to get charge more nor any hidden additional costs - in fact I believe they could have charged me more legitimately. I compared many moving companies and their price was one of the best and stayed that way! I never post ratings and comments, yet, here I'd like to say: If you move get these guys, you'll be happy you did!

The whole process was seamless and efficient from the beggining. A representative made sure to be available and answer all of my questions, responding promptly and in detail. When move day came, the movers were on time, they made sure to confirm every detail again and began work on the spot. They were fast, careful and honestly the whole experience was impressive. Within 3 hours I was at my new place ready to go. It was all extremely affordable considering what other moving companies were willing to charge. It helped to have everything packed and ready to go, but I would definitely hire them again for my next move.

Voyo and his team were great. The were no hidden fee's at all. Packing supplies and boxes are available for purchase if you need. but not obligated to use their stuff. They were no fees for gas or transit. If your upfront with your needs the quoted rate stands, nothing was different than what we discussed and the contract. Priced very reasonable and the best price of any quote. Tipping is encouraged and you are reminded about that several times. I did not have a problem with this practice. The guys deserved it. It was a Flat fee move. I guess depending on what you move is depends on your rate, in which that depends on the hours of manpower. My move was a 5 hour window. . I moved from a storage garage to a Storage Facility. 90% of my items were already packed in Storage bins, I had 3 rolling clothing racks, and one piece of furniture. I had 3 Industrial Shelving units that needed to be dismantled and put back together at the new location. The guys were comfortable doing this. Voyo was easy to communicate with and available for any questions. The guys and the van arrived during the window promised. Everything was loaded efficiently and thoughtfully. My only issue, and I mean only issue, was getting from A to B. I was eager to give directions to the next location, and was told not to worry because of GPS. I just think it was a rush decision to depend on technology. GPS did not route them properly, so 1:20 minutes was lost in transit. The guys did call me 2x to let me know, so that was good. When they did arrive, very apologetic and they would still honor my 5 hour window even if they went over. Luckily, we did not go over. The entire process took 4:41 minutes. My overall experience was not effected. Voyo, also called to express his apology. I would use them again and again. I highly recommend A Piece of Cake as a moving company.

Brian was an absolute pleasure to work with. He was very professional, returned all my calls/texts, showed up promptly with his crew on the scheduled date of my move and did the whole move in record time. Brian also negotiated with me a fair price for the entire job. The Crew also were courteous, professional & easy to work with. Queens Junk Removal & Moving went beyond my expectations & completed everything in a very short time giving me the rest of the afternoon to clean, sort everything into its proper place & going out for errands. I would highly recommend this company for Moving as well as disposal of unwanted items. They were great! Thanks so much, Carole R. Brooklyn, NY

I am not one to usually write reviews, but "Great Service Moving & Delivery LLC" definitely deserve one. They were phenomenal - everything from professionalism to timely delivery to even price. In regards to my experience in the past, I would always have to wait a few hours for delivery, but this moving company exceeded my expectations. The two delivery men even had to wait 10 minutes for me to arrive to my new place - and they didn't mutter or complain but instead welcomed me with a great attitude! I will be recommending them to my friends who will be moving in the future as well and anyone who understands the stress of moving.

I waited until the last minute to plan my move (days before), and Moved help me figure out everything from clothing donations to negotiating a great price on quality movers. This was also my first time using movers and my Moved moving assistant, Erin, was able to answer all of my questions about the process. Truly all I had to do was download the app, tell them what I needed and they made it happen. App is also very easy. Overall great and would definitely use them again/recommend to others stressed about a move!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
