Wedding and Event Decorating

Andie C. says, "I came across Sheena’s company by chance during my initial research for a credible event curator/designer. From the very first phone conversation, I was drawn by her professionalism and warmth. Although my event was a year away, Sheena maintained contact and a record of all details that were a MUST for me. The event she coordinated (Celestial 1st Holy Communion) for my two boys was incredible. Sheena and her team were able to enthrall my guests while remaining restrained in execution. I didn’t want an insane amount of decoration as I very much enjoy clean and elegant aesthetics - Sheena delivered beyond my expectations. I couldn’t sing her praises nor recommend her to everyone, enough. Although, I’ll admit, I went way past my initial budget (lol), it was all worth it in the end. The memories will last a lifetime and you can’t put a price on the experience Sheena will undoubtedly provide! My biggest regret from planning to execution was not being able to tell her in person during the event, how grateful I was for her, not only professionally but as a person. I was so overwhelmed that evening. Thank you again Sheena and I know we will be working together again."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

It will likely cost between $200 and $400 to hire someone to hang your Christmas lights and holiday decorations. For an accurate cost estimate, ask installers near you to give you a price quote. Let them know if you need them to supply the lights, how many you want to hang and other details about this project.

There’s no set rule of when you should or shouldn’t hang your Christmas lights. Some homeowners wait until after Halloween or Thanksgiving. Others may choose to hang them a few weeks before Christmas or at the beginning of December.

If you want to hang up Christmas lights (or other holiday light fixtures) outdoors, you’ll need the following:

  • Christmas and holiday lights
  • Extension cords
  • Gloves
  • Gutter clips
  • Ladder
  • Power stakes
  • Tape measure

Instead of hanging the Christmas lights yourself, you can hire a professional installer to take care of this project for you.

The best way to hang Christmas lights on your house is to use some type of light clip (sometimes called gutter clips). To help ensure your safety, however, consider hiring a professional installer who has experience with hanging Christmas lights, handling electrical cords and using ladders.

You’ll need to measure your house to figure out how many Christmas lights you need. Some homeowners may want to start with 60 feet of lights — or 200 feet. You can take the guesswork out of it by hiring a professional installer or handy person to help you measure and install your lights.

How much you tip an installer who hangs your Christmas and holiday lighting is up to your discretion. Some people prefer to tip about 20% for services, while others may choose to tip anywhere from $20-$50. It’s up to you how much you choose to tip.
