Introduction: Hello! Thanks for considering private music lessons with me. I have been performing and teaching in NYC for several years, and before that I was based in Indianapolis. Helping students excel and find passion in music is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a musician. Background: I studied jazz saxophone and clarinet at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, and maintained a private lesson studio of 10-20 students of all ages. I particularly enjoy working with more advanced students and teaching jazz improvisation / theory, but have experience at all skill levels on both sax and clarinet. I frequently perform around NYC in different types of ensembles, such as pit orchestra, jazz, funk, wedding bands, and more. Teaching Philosophy: Private lessons are essential for anyone who wants to excel quickly at their instrument, and it is important to find the right kind of teacher! For younger students, I prioritize finding what they are interested in, from pop songs, to famous instrumental solos and melodies, and use that as the vehicle for teaching the instrument. It is very important to cultivate interest early on in their musical journey. I believe respect and admiration for creative arts is something everyone should experience in life, and music is my favorite pathway to that. For older, more experienced students, I like to let them guide the lessons a little bit more, as they probably have a better idea what they want to improve on. From there I can figure out a custom balance of listening, theory, fundamentals, and exercises that works with a specific person. Some teachers will put older students on programs that are purely exercises and technique, without any attention to their core interest in music in the first place. I strive to teach always from the position of furthering someone's passion for music. For all lessons, I will do a custom follow up via email, covering the topics and a plan for practicing over the coming weeks. I am also available to answer any questions in between lessons via phone or text.

Eric is a phenomenal instructor. He is very professional, patient, and kind. Eric has been teaching my daughter how to play the saxophone since December. They meet weekly via zoom, after school. My daughter has progressed significantly in the saxaphone, which is a new instrument for her. My daughter and I also appreciate Eric's flexibility. He has also taken time to assist my daughter master the clarinet in time for her All County Performance later this month. With his help, my daughter feels more prepared, and less frightened to perform in front of her peers. My daughter has expressed how much she appreciates his calm and non judgemental demeanor, and his motivating and enthusiastic approach towards teaching music. She enjoys and looks forward to her weekly classes. My daughter and I highly recommend Eric as instructor for students of all ages and levels of training.

Details: 14 - 17 years old • No formal training • Yes, the student can read music • Jazz • Yes, the student has an instrument • 45 minutes • My home, venue, etc.

As a peer, professional musician, and educator myself I can definitively say that Eric is one of the most professional, thorough, and detail driven musicians I have had the honor and pleasure of knowing personally. His lifelong dedication to the mastery of the saxophone and clarinet in both expression and technique is especially noteworthy as it feeds directly into Eric's approach as a teacher: dedicated to the student 100%. With attention to detail, a great sense of humor, and a holistic approach where theory meets technique meets making music, Eric teaches the full range, from beginners with a budding interest to consummate professionals interested in a different approach.
