Olga was punctual. She was very gentle with my dog. She worked quietly and efficiently. My cat and I were dozing off at the other side of the room because they were so quiet : ) She gave my dog a beautiful haircut. My wee dog and I couldn't be happier. I would definitely use their grooming service again.

Michael deserves the cat sitters' Purple Heart for scratches suffered giving our cat Thelonious 4 to 5 oral medications a day for homeopathic treatment of lymphoma while my wife was away. Our cat does everything to avoid medication but Michael was cool under fire as he picked up the cat from his hiding places and was very professional in delivering the medication. He was affable and relaxed under extremely difficult conditions. I hope his next cat sitting job goes easier.

(+) Suki fulfilled the expected tasks of a cat sitter -- providing food, filling the water bowl, and scooping the litter box. She sent daily photos. She was pretty quick to responding to my texts. Suki's rate/cost is affordable compared to other cat sitters, especially professionals (-) Although she sent daily photos, they were sometimes just blurry snaps of my cat's back. From the photos alone, it did not seem that Suki spent much time with him. Rather felt like she was merely showing me that she "checked in" to see my cat. I was disappointed to return home and see that the curtains were down when she said that she will make sure they are up.

Our groomer was kind, caring and gentle with our 10 year old very matted cat. She did an excellent job in a challenging situation. Our cat was fine after the grooming, looks great and seems to be more comfortable. It was a huge relief all around.

Jenn was amazing!! This was our first experience with a Cat Sitter and we were a bit nervous being our first trip away after getting out little cat. However, once we met Jenn and saw her great attention to detail as well as love for animals, we were reassured and were able to enjoy our time away. Jenn will be our first and only cat sitter moving forward and we can't recommend her highly enough!!!

I hired Kyle to take care of my cat while I was out of town. I was pleased with his professionalism, and my cat must have been pleased too - she came to say hello to him every day (I know because he sent me pictures!), which she usually doesn't do when strangers are around! I'd definitely recommend Kyle, and would hire him again.

We had to leave town while our 1 year old cat was sick. Thankfully we found Sarah and she was able to accommodate us last minute. She came early in the morning to do a meet and great before we left. Sarah was very knowledgable about administering medicine and I felt instantly comfortable leaving our cat with her. She came twice a day, administered meds, fed and played with our cat - always sending us a text and picture update. Sarah was prompt to text back and answer any questions we had. We will definitely call Sarah next time we head out of town!

Bruce is very skilled and caring. Extremely attentive. Bruce follows up between appointments to assess progress and provide any assistance needed. My situation is introducing and integrating a senior cat that I rescued with my 3 other cats. I highly recommend Bruce and Interdyne International K-9 Academy.

Roe is awesome! The best cat sitter I have ever had!!! My babies love her! She is affordable and flexible. She cared for my diabetic cat and we were able to work out a deal where she came and gave him his shots twice a day AND spent the night with them. They weren't even a bit traumatized by my absence this time! Roe genuinely loves animals and even helped me solve a litter box issue. I have used cat sitters for over 20 years and Roe is, hands down, the absolute best!

Katy is amazing! We found her through Thumbtack and couldn't be more pleased, and hope she's available next time we're out of town. She provided references and came over for a visit with us and our cat, Samsonite, a few days before our trip. While we were gone, she not only fed Sam and kept his litter box clean, but she spent time playing with him and keeping him entertained. She sent us pictures and texts on how he was doing, and allowed us to enjoy our trip without worrying about the little guy. We can't recommend her highly enough, and am happy to provide a reference to anyone interested in her services. Thanks so much Katy! You rock!!

Adene was great! Our cat requires medication twice daily on a fairly strict timetable. Adene was completely reliable and sent us a picture and text every time she went to feed him so we wouldn't worry. If you need someone to look after your cat, I would not hesitate to recommend Adene.

Linda spent 2 weeks caring for our aged quiet, shy cat. We returned home to find cat and home in better shape than when we left. Linda gave us daily updates and pictures, spent quality time with our cat, and was extremely reliable and caring. Everything she said she would provide was done beautifully making our trip away perfect and stress free. Highly recommend Linda.

Dominique and Lee are excellent groomers. We hired them to groom our two cats and then do twice a month upkeep comb outs and trims. They are so warm and gentle with our babies. They bring all their own equipment and clean up after themselves. We are very please with their services. They even brought us some fish oil for the boys when they noticed that their coats were getting a little dry! They are fabulous.

I leave my dog, Mae, with Sharon Squared, Monday through Friday. Mae always comes home happy and exhausted from the dog run and long walks. Sharon Squared had taken her to the vet and the groomer for me, too. Its great to be able to focus on work knowing Mae is in great hands and having fun!

There is not enough room here to say everything positive about the K9 Experts. Jose is the definition of passionate when it comes to the care of your dog. Kindi (my best buddu aka the dog), my wife, and I have been customers for nearly 6 years, and we have ONLY had extremely positive experiences during the hundreds of times we have utilized his services (daily walking, boarding, and training). The second Kindi realizes Jose is in the area; instant excitement (i.e. happy excessive rapid tail wagging)! He has become a trusted friend to my wife and I, and more importantly, our dog.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do cats have to get groomed?

It’s not crazy to have your cat groomed. Grooming will keep your cat’s fur soft and silky as well as give you early warning about any health concerns. Regular grooming can also help reduce the volume of hair your cat may be shedding and keep your longhair kitty cool if you live in a warm climate. Professionals competently groom your cat and are trained to manage them if they resist being groomed, while you may get scratched doing the same task. The national average price for cat grooming is $50-$70. Pet grooming prices may vary based on the task. For example, a bath and brush for shorthair cats may be $15, $20 for medium-hair cats, and $25 for a longhair. Cat groomers can also keep your cat’s ears cleaned, trim their nails, and provide haircuts if needed. Average prices for haircuts can vary from $30 to $95 or more, depending on whether the cat is shy or aggressive and whether their coat is in good condition, matted, or otherwise difficult to groom.

Where can you get your cat groomed?

Cat grooming keeps your cat’s fur tangle-free and clean. Most businesses that offer dog grooming or general pet grooming also offer cat grooming; some businesses even specialize solely in cat grooming. Look for a professional who has training grooming cats or belongs to a professional association such as the National Cat Groomers Institute, because cat grooming techniques can be different than for dogs. Cat grooming can encompass a wide range of services. In addition to haircutting, hair detangling and hairstyling, cat groomers can trim cat nails, clean out your cat’s ears, give flea baths, demat, trim facial fur, bathe and even blow-dry your cat. Health safety and etiquette requires your cat to be in good health and have all their vaccinations before using grooming services.

How much should cat grooming cost?

Keeping your cat groomed is an important part of maintaining their good health. The national average cost for cat grooming ranges between $50 and $70, with prices varying based on where you live and the services you request. Your cat’s temperament can also affect grooming prices. Scratching and hissing during a groomer visit can raise rates an average of $5-$10, or more, as hazard pay. Larger cats and long-haired cats that take longer to groom will also usually cost more. Here are some examples of cat grooming average costs:

  • Shave down or lion cut: $35-$60. These cuts preserve the hair around the face and tip of the tail but shave down the entire body. The lion cut is often recommended for extremely matted hair is exceedingly matted, for extreme heat, or for cats who are suffering from hairballs.
  • Ear cleaning and nail trim: $30.
  • Nail trim: $10-$15.
  • Bath and nail trim: $45.
  • Bath and sanitary trim: $55. A sanitary trim clips the hair on a cat’s behind to prevent fecal matting in longhair cats or cats that have mobility issues.
  • Bath, blow-dry, brush out, nail trim and ear cleaning: $40.
  • Full haircut, bath, and nail trim: $45-$95, depending on matting.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
