About

I am an intermediate chess tutor, and I enjoy teaching beginner players. I'm quite good at teaching basics, openings, the middle game, and end game. I've been a player myself for over 20 years, and I have a 1650 USCF tournament rating. People who enjoy my tutelage appreciate my ability to explain concepts very simply. I enjoy playing and teaching, and I am doing this for the love of it, rather than the money.

Elvis is a terrific chess instructor. His puzzles help develop the ability to see several moves ahead. He arrives with notes on what he wants to cover that day. Asks me to consult my notebook so we can review the things I learned in previous lessons. After three lessons, when I played with my husband, he commented on my Increased confidence, already. Elvis makes it clear that I can become a good chess player and I enjoy his company on the journey

I have been working with children, ages four to 14, for over 20 years, educating them in the art of chess to help them achieve a positive attitude towards life and teaching them cognitive and analytical skills along with sportsmanship. I have taught in many after-school programs, as well as am doing private and semiprivate lessons. Many of my individual students, as well as teams, have gone on to national events, with one team winning the National K-6 section and four others coming in the top five. I specialize in private/semiprivate instruction. I am willing to travel to you anywhere in Manhattan. Resume and phone number are upon request.

If you are a chess master or just learning chess, if you're 3 or 93 years old, Ciano Chess is the right move! Within a few weeks of chess lessons from Ciano Chess (where we meet in a local NYC coffee shop) my chess game significantly improved and I started winning work tournaments. Moves and strategy became a lot more clearer thanks to coaching from Ciano Chess!!
