Sean mounted a television over my fireplace. The wall was plaster with brick behind and was challenging but he was meticulous in his work and we ended up with a great result! He followed through on everything and was quick to respond throughout the process. A pleasure to work with...

Tommy was fantastic. He did an amazing job on our kitchen backsplash and was a pleasure to work with. We also hired him to hang our tv above the fireplace. He was professional, worked quickly and cleanly and we couldn't have asked for a better work product. We will definitely be using him again in the future, and would highly recommend him to anyone in need of his services.

Mounted a 65 inch TV and installed shelves in my living room. Even took the time to accompany me to Lowe's to pick out the proper materials for the shelves. Encountered a few set backs, offered alternatives and got the job done. Everything looks great. Professional, honest and hard working. Will use again!

Dan, did an amazing job! Not only did he mount and set up my TV on a wall, he hid the wires in a manner did it put unwanted holes in my wall. He was completely reasonable compared to what Geek Squad was going to charge, on time and cleaned up after himself! I will most certainly use him again and recommend him to anyone!

Eye-Fi Home Theater and ESPECIALLY Owner Mike J. is THE BEST I have ever used. I used to work in Television/Movies as an editor, tech and writer. I thought I knew everything. BUT, Mike and Eye-Fi taught me things I never dreamed about. I am in a wheelchair, so i needed the ability to manipulate and use a LOT of equipment from one spot at times. Mike set me up, so I can use almost 10 different pieces of equipment - from Big Screen HD TV's, to DVD DUBBING and Editing bays . . . . . . .ALL FROM MY iPad!!! ANYONE can SET-UP equipment these days. What matters is whether they will be there to service and add onto their work. Mike and EYE-FI have NEVER let me down! Don't even THINK about using anyone else.

Mark was great. My surround sound system problem was not a simple fix, not for me at least, but he was able to patiently diagnose the issues with my system and get everything working perfectly. He also took the time to explain the problem and how he fixed it, all with a great demeanor and warm personality. He genuinely enjoys what he does which is all too rare in this day and age. I hired Phil to mount a 50" flatscreen TV on drywall as well as patch and paint the drywall where an old TV used to hang. He did a great job and cleaned up nicely after himself. He was respectful of myself and my home and he even showed up on time. I happened to mention a door that wouldn't latch while he was here and he fixed it in about 5 minutes for no charge. I highly recommend him for any work you need done.

I would like to leave a quick "thank you" to Gary at exchange tv. I wasnt sure what was going on with my flat screen tv so i had turned here to thumbtack. Out of 5 qoutes Garys sounded the most reasonable and honest. A small bench fee to assess the issues and i received a phone call of diagnosis with total cost flat rate. My tv was up and running at a fair price in 3 days! Exchange tv has earned my business. Thanks again!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      Who wall mounts TVs?

Electricians, handymen and TV installation specialists may all provide television mounting services. The person who does the mounting should be qualified and knowledgeable about basic construction concepts as well as working with audiovisual cables. In general, no specialized certificates are required to provide television mounting services, but as always do your diligence and make smart hiring decisions.

It’s important to find an experienced professional who will ensure the TV wall mount meets building code. Most regions have fire codes that don’t permit high-voltage power cords behind walls (low-voltage wires like HDMI and video cables are generally acceptable). A basic wall mount on drywall may take approximately one to two hours, while more complex mounts on brick or stone with hidden cables can take three or more hours. If you need more electrical outlets installed near your entertainment system, you may want to hire an electrician. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to mount a TV?

Elevate your home style with television mounting services. The national average price for television mounting services ranges between $100 and $130. Factors that can affect cost are the material of the wall you want the TV mounted on, whether you want the wires hidden, and any additional entertainment system connection you desire. It probably costs more to mount a TV on brick, stone or concrete than on drywall or plaster due to the added labor required to drill holes. For example, a company may charge an additional $99 to mount a TV on a brick wall. Here are some examples of average costs for television mounting services:

      • Basic TV wall mount: $40. Does not include bracket, device connection or strip management.
      • TV wall mount: $119. Includes bracket, mounting services, strip management system (for concealing external wires), and connection of all entertainment devices.
      • TV wall mount with wires hidden inside wall: $139.
      • Installation of additional electrical outlet: $65.
      • TV wall mount over fireplace with wires hidden: $179-$249.
      • TV wall mount and up to 5 speakers wall-mounted with hidden wires: $399.

Can a TV be mounted above a fireplace?

You may be able to mount your flat screen TV above your fireplace for a more streamlined look in your living room. In fact, TV mounting professionals can hang your flat screen TV flush with a wall or from a tilting or full-motion bracket mount in any room in your home. A tilting or full-motion mount may be the best option above a fireplace so you can tilt the TV down for the best viewing angle. Whether the wall above your fireplace is brick, drywall, concrete, stone or plaster, most television mounting services can accommodate your needs. Hardier wall surfaces like concrete or brick will require more labor and expertise to mount, and will likely have a higher price range.

If you want your AV and cable wires hidden in the wall, you will also pay a higher price due to the added time and skill to properly drill the holes and run wires. Before mounting your TV above your fireplace, consult with the manufacturer about necessary distance from heat sources. If the space above your fireplace gets too warm, another location could be better for the longevity of your TV. Your television mounting services may take between one and two hours, or more depending on your home theater setup.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
