We have been receiving family style dinners from Dinner's Ready for 3 weeks now and they have all been superb. The flavor is delicious. The preparation is easy. Wendy is very flexible and understanding of my schedule and has been very accommodating with the delivery of the food. We are very satisfied thus far.

Jewel McCoy was very instrumental in my proposal to my girlfriend a couple days before Easter this year. It was an absolute surprise to her. How do you expect someone to propose when they have hired a chef? With the ring presented on a platter!! It was perfectly presented at the beginning of our third course (dessert). I had my children involved with the proposal and because of such, Jewel and her assistant took the time to meet with us prior to the dinner for a quick rehearsal of the presentation. During my proposal speech, she was on cue with the ring platter. My fiancée was utterly surprised. My children were in town for spring break and had to go to school the day after Easter so I had to take them back Saturday, the day prior to Easter. I had my girlfriend’s mother make up an excuse to host dinner that Friday since the kids would not be here for Easter. It worked, my girlfriend fell for that guise. I had the chef prepare a traditional Easter meal because it had to go with the reason for the dinner and not to cause suspicion. Now, let’s move on to the food. The meal was very succulent, so much so, that the family members present to witness my proposal inquired about leftovers and this was on Easter day where food should be aplenty in everyone’s household. Everything was delicious. If you ask my fiancée, she would say the surprise dessert was the best of all :-). My fiancée felt very special and I am very happy that Jewel and her staff was able to ensure that it went off without a hitch. Thank you Jewel for making my vision of how I wanted the proposal to go surrounded by family and friends a reality!! If you're looking for something different, I highly recommend checking A Taste of Glory out. Not only is the food delicious, but Jewel and her staff were superb.

I hired Mary Beth to come into my home and teach me how to prepare different styles of meals for my family. My experience was fantastic. I love that Mary Beth was a food scientist for many years so she was able to teach me other aspects of food preparation and ingredients while also teaching me how to cook! I would highly recommend Mary Beth to anyone looking for assistance or instructions in the kitchen!

My husband got me two cooking classes as part of my Xmas gift. I took the Italian class with my daughter and the breakfast/brunch class with my son. We had so much fun and Tim and Sharon are such great people! I have since made the Italian pasta sauce and meatballs and the eggs benedict several times for my family and they love it!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.
