Mrs. Fulton was my instructor for 2 years of my Spanish education and was one of the most influential instructors that I have had the pleasure of learning from. It seemed easy for Mrs. Fulton to make her lessons both fun and exciting, and she also made sure that she created an environment that was conducive to learning Spanish. If I didn't understand something or if I wanted to learn something outside of the curriculum, then Mrs. Fulton took the time, both in class and after school, to provide me with the materials that would help me succeed. Being under Mrs. Fulton's instruction not only helped me as a high school student, but has also continued to help me in my college studies. I am very lucky to have been her student.

Club Z has been a fantastic experience for my son. The personal attention he received during his one to one tutoring for calculus greatly improved both his confidence and his grades. Additionally, the individualized focus he got during his SAT prep also increased his performance. The tutors provided by Club Z were an excellent match to the needs of my student. They were incredibly professional and always refining their approach to the subjects at hand. Club Z has been a tremendous help to our student and is a service that we will both use again as well as recommend to others.

Bernard currently works with my son as a regular tutor in algebra I. If I had to rate my experience I would describe it as both exceptional and excellent. I am an educator, but sometimes it is best to have the support of those who have expertise, but not the emotional component. Mr. Bernard has expectations of excellence from his students. His instruction in the content area of mathematics is phenomenal! He is knowledgeable, effective and has a no- nonsense approach towards learning academics. I fully recommend his services and endorse him as an excellent educator. Mr. Bernard exemplifies the principles and character of an exceptional God fearing man.

Twila Grigsby, a tutor who teaches math, has done a splendid job for me! When I didn't understand a concept in a lesson I was taught, she took the time to review my notes and ask me questions to what I didn't understand. She is a very patient person who is very well oriented. If I didn't understand the lesson completely, she would offer me sample problems. After awhile, I finally got the hang of it. I would definitely recommend her to become your tutor because she encourages me to stay motivated and the best thing about her is, she's very professional. - Miranda Sanchez

I teach individuals based on what they love to do, and to their level of ability. While I have taught students who need very accelerated teaching methods I have also worked with some who have developmental disabilities, I think it's very important to teach on a personal level.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. How much does home tutoring cost?

Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes.
