Prompt response from Thumbtack, to dog trainers and the one I've booked with, Critters, seems to be first rate. We haven't had our first session yet so will respond later. but happy to have found this trainer through your service.
I am a new german shepherd mommy. I've owned many dogs in my lifetime and boy are people right when they say the German Shepherd is different. My Koda was just under 4 months old when my husband and I decided we needed help. We'd set a foundation of getting her to sit, lay down, ride in the car and walking decently on a leash. However, we struggled with getting her to come when called, not bite (she's teething and while playful hurt like heck), eat my garden or decorative river rock, and not to jump. Koda had also started back talking me when I told her no. I found Cynthia and her quote was far more reasonable than any other. Based on her reviews and a scouring of the Internet turned up a positive Portland Tribune article. I felt she would be a good fit. After talking with Cynthia and my husband we decided to do a 2 week board and train. This scared the heck out of me because I'd obviously grown very attached to my puppy. We spent every day together, so the thought of her going somewhere else where I'd have little contact was a hard pill to swallow. During this time I was getting updates via text by Cynthia and her positive updates on training helped. When I finally got to my training with her I was relieved to see my dog was happy, healthy, comfortable with Cynthia and actually learning the things I'd failed so miserably to do. She would heel, come to me when I yelled "here", down like a champ, didn't eat rocks anymore and best yet no biting!!! We did decide to do a 3rd week of training and it has given Koda even more manners. You can tell her "place" and she'll lay down on her bed, tell her "wait" and she'll stay until you call her through the door. Koda has also learned to hi-five for treats :) Cynthia is amazing with dogs and her experience with German Shepherds is outstanding (30+years). I'd recommend her to anyone. While this is step 1 because no puppy is suddenly a mature perfect dog we look forward to additional periodic training and seeing our Koda be the envy of every rowdy puppy parentry. You bet your boots I'll be referring those pup parents to Cynthia.
We have experienced many dog / dog owner trainers over the years; Jana is our favorite. She understands dogs; she understands the dog | human interface. She is pleasant, professional, and flexible.
Molly understands my needs with my very exhuberant golden, Mumford. I have had other trainers, but Molly explains why she teaches us different skills and strategies. Mumf and I are making progress! So far, we are very happy!
Our experience working with Jamie to help train our dogs has been excellent. She involves the entire family and worked very well helping our kids work with the dogs. Her approach and techniques have been very effective with our dogs, especially our rescue. We highly recommend Jamie for any dog training assistance and will continue to have her work with our family for future dog training.
I hired Rob end of last summer for my 4 month old lab...everything we learned with Rob has worked great. Porter completely listens to the magic word and he reacts with no hesitation. I highly recommend Rob to train your pup!!
After looking at several other trainers I thought Jeff would be a great fit for my 9 week old puppy, and myself. I liked his Puppy Right Start course which gave me so much useful information. He was right on time and he must be a dog whisperer because Riley just loved him from the start! He spent 3 hours with me and my pup, demonstrating so many useful techniques and ideas. I was a complete novice when it came to raising a puppy and he gave me the confidence (and the tools) to feel that I could succeed with my little mischievous guy. I cannot recommend highly enough. In fact, I have already given his name to several people who I hope have the good sense to call him. Chris and Riley
Nicole was amazing! We only had a few days with her and she taught us everything she possibly could. She was assertive with our pup and help us do the same. My husband did the sessions with me and while he practiced with our dog, I practiced with Flynn, Nicole's well trained Australian Shepherd. That proved to best way for us to learn as we were both able to be active. Watching her with her dog provided a great example to us if what we were training our dog to do. Nicole was patient and very helpful. He repeated herself often and encouraged us to take notes to ensure that we grasped every concept she taught us. Our 6 month old puppy is doing great! He walks well on a leash and obeys commands like come, sit, down, stay, and heel. We are now practicing of leash training and with Nicole's help he is doing great! I would recommend her to anyone who has adopted a dog of any age.
Very professional and knowledgeable of all dog breeds and the training they require. Rebecca has years of experience and is also very responsive and reasonably priced for training.
Such a caring person. She taught me a lot in just one session - I am glad some trainers out there have an understanding of dogs and don't just follow what is the most popular training method. Very versatile trainer! Thanks again, Brenda H.
I think she is a fantastic trainer everything and more I could ask for. Her knowledge and kind nature is a perfect fit for my Mini Aussie and myself I am so pleased and took some of her business cards to pass out I highly recommend her
Fabulous trainer. I hired multiple other trainers before finding her. My dogs seem like different dogs.
Risa has a true talent communicating with our German Shepard, and us her owners. We're making good progress and am looking forward to getting the most our of our training to help make our dog as happy and well behaved as possible.
I was looking for advanced obedience for me and my dog. Youngblood thought me so much on how to handle my dog and not to give up. A few times he would tell me to do something a certain way and I would think "ok he's full of it, this won't work". Every time I was proven wrong. He's the only trainer that I trust 100%. My dog and I have come a long way thanks to him.
We were very lucky in having Cayla for a trainer. Tanner is a very big, stubborn dog, and not easy to control. If we ever encounter a problem these days, we always go back to the training and ask ourselves, "what would Cayla tell us to do?" By following her instructions, it has been the only way we can control our hyper, strong headed dog. Cayla’s guidance, instruction and teachings are invaluable to us and vital to our success with Tanner. We strongly recommend her.
Bringing our Shiba inu to Holly was the best thing we ever did. We were at our wits end and didn't know what to do with her aggression. Holly took her in and treated her like her own with love and she has never been better! She listens, places, sits, comes, everything. We can have her around company and finally a real part of our family. Wouldn't have made it without Holly. She kept is updated and assured that she was greatly cared for when we did to want to let her go, well my boyfriend. :) best trainer out there! Do what's best for your family!!

I will pet sit, train your canine in basic manners and obedience, etc. I walk dogs, clean them up (nails, teeth, coat, ears), etc. I have a service dog in training, a retired service dog. I've studied training for years. I love animals.
In my conversations with dog owners, I find that evaluating good recall in a dog seems to be fairly subjective. Contrary to what many dogs owners think, recalling a dog that has just run upstairs at home where there are relatively few novel distractions is not really considered a good test of recall. Professional dog trainers rely on more stringent measures and more rigorous tests. For example, developing good recall means that you can recall your dog at the dog park 9 out of 10 times when the dog is engaged with other dogs and at a fair distance. Recall is a life saving cue or command, beyond just a convenient behavior. Dog Trainer Dude focuses on basic obedience and, particularly, behaviors that ensure safety and adhere to proper dog behavior etiquette out in public in urban areas, such as recall (coming on command). Most of my clients come to me after discovering that the behaviors taught to their dog with the assistance of conventional training methods are unsustainable. I correct unwanted behaviors like inappropriate and unsolicited jumping on owners and strangers. I work on the sit-stay command requiring the dog to hold for more than just a few seconds. In other words, I polish off the kinds of things you thought you were going to be sustainable, but have proven not to be. I also work on shaping new behaviors and addressing more complex problem behaviors that result from environmental constraints or limited socialization.
I'm very good with animals.
I want more than anything for people to enjoy their relationship with their dog to the fullest...and this requires that they can trust their dog to respond to them under all situations and circumstances. Happy dog..happy,happy owner!!
