Introduction: I have won the award for Best of Tutoring in 2016 at Thumbtack based on my customers' reviews! I provide professional service to my clients based on their need and age group and do my best to see them progress and learn. I love watching my students progress and be able to talk in Spanish and achieve their goals. It is a win win situation! :) My education background is a Bachelor & Masters degree in Spanish and Foreign Languages. I have taught Spanish at Portland State University, Portland Community College, Lewis & Clark college, and Catlin Gable School over a 10 years period. I have lived and studied in Argentina and Spain. I have been working as an English language assistant in public and private schools in Madrid, Spain. Besides my teaching at school, I have done private tutoring for both English for Spanish students and Spanish for American and English expats. I am also a National Board Certified Spanish/English medical & legal interpreter. I used to work as an interpreter along with my teaching and tutoring job. I have got the TEFL ( teaching English as a second language) certification which enables you as a teacher. I learned about lots of different teaching methods, lesson plans that are appropriate for the level of each student, and learning styles that you can incorporate for teaching any language. It has helped me to teach my students either Spanish or English in a learning style that is particular to that student. I believe that there is not just one method that works for everyone! I haven't been taking any new students from Thumbtack since 2018 and have been working with the students that I already had. Now, I have some extra time and decided to get few more students. Katrina helped my daughter improve her skills for middle school third year Spanish. After a few weekly sessions, I noticed her grade improve significantly, bumping from a low B to a B+. Now, after a few months with Katrina, her grade is at an A! Katrina always comes very prepared with the right tools and activities tailored to fit my daughter's learning style.

Great. She knows the Spanish language from learning as a non-native , then receiving advanced degrees in Spanish. Katrina is patient, has a great sense of humor and keeps her students motivated to learn. I highly recommend Katrina as a tutor.

Katrina is a breath of fresh air. She is always prepared and she cares about her students progress. She breaks Spanish down into comprehensive steps so you can begin understanding right away. Within two months of working with her I felt I understood more Spanish than when I took two years of it in high school. She is definitely worth the investment!

Katrina is a fantastic tutor. She made me feel comfortable with her on the first day when I was quite nervous. She was able to assess my skills without need for a formal test as other agencies do. It isn't all book work and we spend time conversing to help with practicing skills. I feel that I have made quite a lot of progress, much more so than I have in classes in the past. She is a great instructor and is able to adapt to your abilities. She is very flexible and understanding that life happens and things sometimes get in the way. I am so glad I found Katrina to help me with my Spanish language abilities and would recommend her fully.

If you take more than one hour a week, I offer you a discount.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First, I would like to do an initial interview to find out my student's level and experience and find out about their goals. Based on that information, we can fit the lessons accordingly to get the maximum result.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor and Masters degree in Spanish and Foreign Languages and have taught Spanish for more than 15 years at college and university level. I have also worked as an legal & medical Spanish/English interpreter. I have a TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) Certification from International TEFL Academy and has worked as an English language assistant in public & private schools in Spain. I do private tutoring both for English & Spanish. Although, my focus is more on Spanish tutoring now.
