It's hard to find the right piano teacher. But when I found Emily I knew I needed to look no further. I have been taking piano lessons on and off 20 years and within the first few lessons she taught me elements of theory and artistry that I had never seen from a teacher. She is patient, thoughtful and an expert in her craft. She listens and selects pieces that are inspirational to my taste and builds a curriculum to my skill level (intermediate) and pushes me just enough to help me feel confident while still learning new skills.
I have been taking singing lessons with Alisdair and he is great! I've made significant progress in my singing, and his teaching technique is extremely effective, and is different to other vocal coaching I've received in the past. He is reliable, on-time, and was willing to start lessons right away.
Kris Savitski is an amazing teacher and listener. I was nervous about the little knowledge and experience I had with playing piano being 35 years old. As I took a music theory class in college I used to know a bit more but it had been so long and wanted to finally learn to really play. Kris was able to quickly see where I was at and took the time in our first session to see what my strengths and (many) weaknesses were lol. He was able to immediately give me a couple of drills to practice at home or anywhere to build dexterity strength. Every lesson I have been taking with Kris is enjoyable as we practice pieces recommended by him to get me up to speed and improve music theory skills but ALSO pieces that I am interested in learning. I used to think that taking piano lessons would be boring and dreadful to go to, but Kris TRULY ADAPTED TO HOW I LEARN and mostly uses genres that appeal to me! His INNOVATIVE TEACHING is what has kept me coming back and continuing to take lessons from him. Some of our sessions include him playing a melody while I improvise the harmony which allows me to really learn the type of sound(s) I feel sound amazing together in order to write my own pieces. He will also video what I'm playing via my phone so that I can remember the improvised sounds and notes, along with finger placement for me to refer to when practicing at home. Of course he provides classic learning pieces to practice which are key for me to improve my music reading skills and muscle memory for finger placements as well. I mentioned to Kris in one of my later lessons that I wanted to write AND SING songs and he has now incorporated voice lessons with our practices. I never thought I would have enough courage to sing seriously in front of someone but Kris has a way of being professional yet truly helpful in a way that allows you to be comfortable as it can be scary opening your creativity up to anyone. Therefore I now have the the courage and ease to sing in front of him and have learned so many breathing and vocal techniques since we've started incorporating vocal too! I would highly recommend Kris to anyone at any skill set level as he is a true teacher and listener with extreme talent.
I started taking his piano lessons only about a month ago, but it''s been such a great joy to work with him. He constantly assesses my weaknesses and strengths, and plans my lessons accordingly. He also listens carefully to what I like and what I want to do, too. I live a bit far from his studio, but it's totally worth it. I highly recommend him!
When we arrived for the initial consultation for singing lessons and my daughter saw the piano, she asked if she could take piano lessons first. So, we're now taking piano lessons from Bonnie. I find her to work very well with kids, my daughter is 8, and my daughter likes her and is happy too. She explains things clearly, gives praise when earned, and is helpful and pleasant to work with.
I have been taking lessons with top piano players all over the world and there is a reason that I train with Shannon from across the country. Great guy and great with kids!
My 10 year old son started taking piano lessons with Deanna Maio at Confident Voice Studios a couple of months ago, and she has done a terrific job connecting with him and helping him advance his piano practice. We highly recommend Deanna!
Helen, was AMAZING, she taught my 6 yr daughter her first piano lesson. We were going to try out a few different teachers, but after meeting her, I have no interest going anywhere else. Thank you for being so friendly and so talented! <3 A few things that were important to me were, 1. She could connect with my 6 year old. 2. That she could teach syllabus. 3. That she has opportunities for her students to perform during the year. She met all three of those. :)
Hired off of thumb tack, Nyssa is a good person with patience and knowledge that seems to be good for any age! This makes for a good time learning piano. Hire her! :)
Today was my first day working with Darin, and I must say I was more than impressed by his knowledge in music, skills in pedagogy, and his overall passion and enthusiasm for music and teaching! I could truly sense his excitement for me to learn and how much he cared to provide me with all the resources needed for me to succeed. He is not only an excellent pianist, but truly has incredible talent and knowledge in teaching. He truly spends his time generously in teaching and makes the learning experience so exciting. Darin spend extra time outside of the lesson planning out the lesson and then typing up all the things we covered in the lesson so I would have a summary and point of reference. I highly recommend him and am looking forward to working with him as my teacher!
Gillian is very dependable and always is timely. The kids have learned more about playing the piano and knowing more music theory. I'm impressed by her professionalism and pleasant demeanor with the kids. She has great techniques in helping the kids break down a song into smaller obtainable parts to help them learn the song correctly.
My son enjoyed having his piano lesson with geoff he said he is a great teach and cant wait to have another lesson
Kelsey is an amazing teacher, the best I've had by far! She is so encouraging and supportive of her students. I have learned more from her than any other teacher. I've learned all my technique from her and would not be the level I am at today without her amazing coaching! Any student interested in singing or piano would be so lucky to have Kelsey as a teacher!
Marcy has been a phenomenal teacher. I am an adult learner just starting on the piano and have been taking lessons from her for 6 months now. Marcy is very patient makes you feel very comfortable about being a beginner. She keeps the lessons interesting, engaging and relevant to your aspirations. She is very knowledgeable about music and about teaching piano. She includes as little or as much music theory as you want. Give her a call. You won't be disappointed. Highly recommended!!
I knew even before having children, that I wanted them to study piano under the Suzuki Method. I was a Suzuki student myself for 14 years and I fortunate to have had an excellent Suzuki teacher as child in my hometown of Dallas, Texas. When my daughter was three, I began to search the Portland area for a Suzuki piano teacher and was discouraged to find that there are very few, let alone ones that are highly qualified. As luck would have it, my former Suzuki teacher in Texas let me know that a teacher she knew from Dallas was relocating to Portland and that was how I was introduced to Karen. Upon my initial meeting with Karen I was very pleased with her philosophy towards teaching and her background and education were very impressive. The parent education she provides before students even touch the keyboard has proven invaluable to me as I learn to be a Suzuki parent. As my daughter's lessons have progressed, I am continually impressed with Karen's teaching skills. She always has great insight into ways to overcome challenges I might face in home practice sessions with my daughter and she is always available to answer any questions I may have. It's been great to see my daughter start growing and developing as a Suzuki student and I am very much looking forward to the years ahead we have with Karen as her teacher.
Liz is the kind of teacher I yearned for when I was taking music lessons as a child. She makes it possible to succeed by her encouragement, high expectations and the fact that she breaks each task down into manageable pieces. My 9 year-old daughter has been taking lessons from Liz for almost 5 years. During that time, she has grown so much in her love of music, her poise in performing and in her work ethic. My almost 7 year-old son has been taking lessons for 2 years. He is a bouncy, energetic boy and it took him a while to learn to pay attention to detail. Now he is so proud of himself that he can memorize music carefully and not have to correct mistakes later. My husband and I chose the Suzuki method because it trains the musical ear and focuses on developing good technique. We chose Liz because we knew several of her students and has seen their fabulous growth. We also really like the Group lessons (which many other teachers do not offer). They provide a chance to become comfortable with performing and the games make learning theory fun. Group also helps the families at Studio 88 be a chose-knit group. The students become friends and encourage each other. If you choose Liz as your piano teacher, she will expect you to practice with your child on a daily basis. She will give you a list of tasks to complete during the week. She will expect you to take notes during lessons. Her lessons continue year-round (with breaks for the major holidays). If you want to drop your child off at lessons and let your child practice by him/her self, then you should look elsewhere. On the other hand, if you are looking for the highest quality piano teacher who is willing to work extremely hard to turn your child into a topnotch musician, Liz is the teacher for you.
My son has been taking piano lessons with Ryan for a year, my son is excited to go each week and has learned so much!!! Ryan responds to questions quickly & is willing to work with our ever changing schedule.
My focus although founded in classic and traditional techniques is interdisciplinary in nature through and through. The early beginnings from childhood of a career in performing arts has helped me grow a well rounded palette of voice, theater and dance.
I teach my clients the basics of the piano, then teach them to play by ear. I've been a professional piano player for 35 years now.
I have been working with children of all ages for over 10 years and have played piano ever since I was little. In college, I volunteered as a piano teacher for a local elementary school, and I love sharing my love of music with others.
I am a piano teacher. I charge $30 for a 50-minute lesson. I have been teaching piano beginner lessons for a while now (also voice) at my "Melodia Music School". I've been playing piano for 17 years already and singing professionally for 8 years now. I am finishing my degree in music education with children. I also do recitals for my students and their family and friends and students of my other piano teacher friend. Please contact me by phone or better by a text message, and I will contact you back ASAP! I love what I do, and I would love to have your child experience the same thing!
