As a person that has experienced chronic neck and back pain my entire life, I'm very experienced with massage. You don't always get a great massage when meeting a new therapist. With Asiyih I received an amazing massage from the first, and every one since. She knows and understands how the body works, so when she finds a spot she knows how to find the sources. Beyond that, she listens to her clients. When you say "my right shoulder", she knows that you need the right shoulder worked on the majority of the time. When you complain of headaches, she offers up different suggestions and techniques that can help and are achievable with your life. She is constantly studying new techniques for bodywork, so she can help her clients through any means available. The overall experience is one of true caring, providing flexible and easy scheduling, always being on time for her appointment, not rushing you through the end and making sure you enjoyed your service. A much more holistic approach to massage than most.

I have chronic pain in my hip and neck. Dr. Clark was very attentive to my specific needs. One of the bonuses of treatment from a chiropractor is that he could feel where I was having sympathetic pains that I didn't even tell him about. It's more than just a knowledge of basic anatomy. The difference is an understanding of the musculoskeletal system and his holistic approach. For the first time in months, I am pain free (48 hours and counting without my pain medication!)

Read this first: I injured my back and as a result ended up with sciatic issues. I did the western medicine route with absolutely no results. I tried 3 acupuncturists. Logan was the only acupuncturist that helped me heal. Within the first treatment, I had great results, I had more movement and no pain. The herbs he prescribed continued the healing process. Since then. Logan has treated me for tight shoulders, chronic stiff neck as well as hot flashes and other menopausal issues with immediate positive results. His combination of using very few needles and Chinese Herbal prescription are a great combination and have help me many times.

I hurt my AC joint doing martial arts and I was sure I'd be out for two months or more from the injury. I had seen Christine for other things before and had great experiences so I set up an appointment. I was able to see her within days of the injury and her knowledge of sports-specific injuries was apparent from the start. I had two sessions with her about one week apart, doing the self-care she prescribed in between, and I felt about 80% by the second treatment. I actually felt good enough that I was able to resume training (with a few modifications) and I was absolutely floored that I only missed a week of training for this injury. I've had similar ones in the past and been out anywhere from four to eight weeks. Aside from the fact that it worked so well, Christine just has an overall attentive, confident and caring manner that keeps me coming back.

Irene was insightful, kind, and generous in spirit. She pinpointed my area of concern, gave me intuitive information about it, guided me to spiritual, emotional and nutritional solutions. Interesting, everything she told me was also validated by another healer who I was seeking non related information for, but this exact thing came up in my healing. Irene is a true channel of the Divine

Anneleah is an amazing medicine woman. My experience with a soul retrieval session was very powerful and transformative. I have worked with many modalities over the years to support my growth and release of emotional blocks. This was by far one of the most powerful sessions I have ever received. She supported by process every step of the way and was able to go back into my past and retrieve parts of my emotional experience or pain body, to restore parts of my sense of self. It is a profound experience to reclaim parts of oneself that has been disconnected for so long. I was amazed at her accuracy and ability to communicate the information that was received during the journeying process. There were parts that extended beyond my current life that provided very valuable information for my healing process . The energy on so many levels was very palpable throughout our session. What has been even more surprising is the power and energy that the recording resonates with as after the session, it has been an important tool to work with. I have great respect for the work that she does and would fully recommend her, as she has such a strong commitment and clear love for the work. All of the information that came through in the session has been extremely supportive in my understanding of where I have come from and where I am going. It was truly a beautiful way to uncover parts of myself that needed to be pulled back and integrated into my being . The forgiveness process was also extremely beautiful and allowed for significant shifts in my biological family on levels that are beyond time and space. The healing feels like it has extended out beyond me, into the larger world. Really, so beautiful. Thank you Anneleah!

      About

I come from a western medical background, and I have been in practicing traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) since 1993. As I have matured as a healer, my spiritual path has led me to more holistic forms of healing and being. In my private practice, I keep an open mind and stay abreast with the modern applications of this ancient healing art. Having a strong background in western medicine, I am naturally curious concerning the relationship between Eastern and Western medicine, and seek to understand how they can complement each other. I am part owner of a healing arts center called Opening To Life. I maintain my private practice in this beautiful building on the NE side of Portland, accessible from I-84 and I-5. It is my treatment practice preference to schedule only one person at a time. By doing so, this creates an opportunity where you can be fully heard and where you will receive my undivided attention. This time, intensive arrangement reflects my deepening commitment to this healing art. You can find your balance, optimize your level of wellness, experience the benefits and glow of your own radiant good health and well-being. My specialties include: • Pain Management (both acute and chronic) • Women's Medicine • Emotional Centering • Chinese Herbs and Supplements • Respiratory Conditions • Counseling • Dance and Sports Injuries • Auto Claims My services include insurance billing.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is classified as an alternative healing method, but licensed naturopathic doctors share some of the same academic background as conventional medical doctors and can often prescribe some medications. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), naturopathic medicine is holistic care that addresses a wide range of problems including (but not limited to) allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, cancer, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Naturopathic medicine aims to strengthen and empower the body and its organs to heal itself through low-force interventions. Here are some examples of the type of medical services often provided by naturopathic doctors, as cited by the AANP:

      • Clinical and laboratory diagnostic testing
      • Nutritional medicine
      • Botanical medicine
      • Naturopathic physical medicine (including naturopathic manipulative therapy)
      • Hygiene
      • Counseling
      • Minor surgery
      • Homeopathy
      • Acupuncture
      • Intravenous and injection therapy
      • Naturopathic obstetrics (natural childbirth)

      Do naturopaths take insurance?

Many naturopathic doctors accept insurance, but a separate question is whether your insurance covers alternative and naturopathic services. There are several steps you can take to find out:

      • Verify whether you live in one of the 20 states that currently licenses naturopathic physicians:
        • Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and Washington.
      • Confirm whether your insurance will cover naturopathic medical services. Read your insurance plan’s fine print, verify whether naturopathic doctors fall into your insurance carrier’s definition of a doctor, and confirm that the care you are receiving is considered medically necessary. Questions to ask your insurance provider could include:
        • Am I covered for this treatment by a naturopathic physician?
        • Do I need a referral?
        • Is there a list of approved naturopathic doctors in my network?
        • What will the co-pay be?
        • Are there limits to my naturopathic coverage?
      • Before seeking medical care, it’s key to understand the difference between a naturopathic doctor and a naturopath. Anyone may advertise themselves as a naturopath, while to be a licensed naturopathic doctor, a person must complete academic and clinical training.

      Can naturopathic doctors prescribe medication?

Licensed naturopathic doctors can prescribe some pharmaceutical medication. Naturopathic doctors complete academic training similar to that of conventional physicians: a bachelor’s degree with a focus on pre-med studies, followed by a four-year residential naturopathic medical program whose first two years have a similar foundation to that of a conventional medical school. After completing their studies, they must pass a post-doctoral exam. Although licensed naturopathic physicians are able to prescribe medication, they usually focus on prevention rather than treatment of symptoms. A naturopathic doctor will offer a holistic approach to your care that encompasses your mental, physical and emotional health. While they will prescribe medication as needed to treat illness, they are also likely to be creating shifts in your lifestyle and nutrition to effect deeper changes in your body’s response to illness.

How do you find a good naturopath?

It’s important not to get misled by the title “naturopath” when searching for a naturopathic doctor. A naturopathic doctor is a licensed professional, while anyone who so desires can call themselves a naturopath. A naturopathic doctor has completed eight years of schooling and is licensed to provide high-quality medical care. When searching for a naturopathic doctor, a good place to start is by researching your state’s licensing and regulatory body for that profession.

Currently, 20 U.S. states license the practice of naturopathic medicine. For those seeking holistic, body-centered healing solutions, a naturopathic doctor can be a good fit. They use natural medicines as well as treatments such as electrotherapy and ayurvedic medicine to encourage the body to heal. Once you have determined a list of naturopathic physicians who are licensed in your state, look for reviews, ask for referrals, and interview the physician in person or by phone to find the right care provider for your health needs.

How long do naturopathic doctors go to school?

Like conventional physicians, naturopathic doctors undergo rigorous academic and clinical training prior to practice. Typically naturopathic doctors go to school for eight years. There are currently 20 states in the U.S. that provide licensing for naturopathic doctors. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, a naturopathic doctor must complete a bachelor’s degree and an accredited four-year residential naturopathic medical program, and pass an extensive postdoctoral board examination, the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX), in order to receive a license or registration to practice medicine.

The first two years of the residential naturopathic medical program cover many of the same areas of study as conventional medical schools. Naturopathic doctors provide primary patient holistic care. The goal of naturopathic medicine is preventative care and a focus on low force intervention healing methods. This can include natural medicines, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, homeopathy and much more. Naturopathic doctors often work in tandem with conventional medical doctors, as the two practices complement one another.
