What do you love about your job?
I enjoy helping people more thoroughly enjoy their lives. There are many people who appreciate my understanding of finger-style guitar artistry, and they support my efforts at communicating it. For these people, I am grateful. Music is good for the soul and the brain. Through music - both teaching and performing - I am helping people live healthier and happier lives.
Who inspired you to start your own business?
Young Audiences' National Artist of the Year (2009) Greta Pedersen, who has supported my efforts from the beginning, and Fred Cummins, musical partner in college and first professional performance partner, inspired me. Two major music publishing companies, each of which rejected my first book manuscript, forced Greta and me to start Accent On Music LLC and self-publish. That first manuscript, Art of Contemporary Travis Picking, has been a best seller for 30 years, and it continues to add rave reviews on Amazon and elsewhere. We have since published over two dozen of my titles. These independent efforts led to a Grammy Award in 2005 for my contributions to Solid Air Records' "Henry Mancini-Pink Guitar" CD.
