"I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to hire the Interior Design and Contracting services of Kathryn James of Bluevine Studio LLC. I had just purchased a 1949 unimproved ranch style home in need of full renovation on a tight timeline for my family to move in before school started. The first thing that struck me in working with Ms. James was her intuitive approach to learning about each of the intended occupants, how we live and entertain and translated this into style, budgets and priorities. I was impressed with her high level of organization and resourcefulness in sourcing materials and furnishings far beyond my expectations. She used both pointers and Houzz idea boards to help with easy style and furnishing selections. Ms. James made an otherwise stress-filled process a fun an engaging partnership with beautiful results. She is skilled at not only interior design but also project management and construction renovations needs. She provided creative floor plan alterations, color coordination, materials selection, furniture and room designs, purchasing, extremely tight budget management and selected sub contractors. As a result of the success in my personal home renovation I secured Ms James services for an additional three investment properties. Each project has been on time, on or below budget and beautify executed with ongoing returns. I highly recommend Ms. James for any design or construction project. I continue to refer Bluevine Studio and seek Ms James consulting ongoing."Apr 4, 2016
We worked with Kat on a kitchen remodel. We had a General Contractor & hired her as a designer & sounding board as she has GC experience as well. We couldn't have been happier with the services she provided!!! Kat is insightful in many ways, accommodating & was always available! She helped streamline this remodel, is very easy to talk to and very knowledgable in design to construction. She also is a great at finding the best deal on materials & has some great resources to do so. We are just getting started but we are so happy we hired her!! I would highly recommend hiring her for any project and I am happy to give a reference to anyone that would want to speak with me personally. Thank you Kat for all your hard work & dedication! We are excited to work with you again in the future!!Feb 10, 2017bluevine studio llc's reply
LeeAnn & Troy - The pleasure is all min working with you both. Thank you so much for a great review LeeAnn. I look forward to woking with you again on your remodel. Happy New Year!
Kathryn James of Bluevine Studio exceeded my expectations as a creative force and motivator for a change of my cluttered office environment on our first project. I did not know how or where to begin regarding the design, functionality and rebuild of my business venue. She presented several options for my review and clearly explained her process, which alleviated any of my concerns regarding the cost and completion time frame. I now understand why she is referred to as the tornado of organization. I additionally hired Kat James for a complete renovation of my teen-agers upgrade from a little girl’s cave into a full master size suite. With just a rough budget in mind I gave creative license to Kathryn. What impressed me the most was the way she intuitively connected with my daughter and empowered and guided her to choices along the process that resulted in a highly personalized space. The room ended up not only reflecting my daughter’s personality and comforts but also a very cool mix of sophistication, function and fun! I have used Kat on three separate projects including a master suite and kitchen upgrade, a living room modernization, art work and color consulting, and wall / window treatments. She amazed me with her well-rounded knowledge of design and construction on each occasion. Kat James also provided me with a choice of contingent options for every project. I was very fortunate to discover a one-stop shop for both an innovative designer and general contractor where her concept wasn't lost in translation between an idea and the lay of a brick. Kat shopped for eco products with cost efficiency and creative solutions in mind. I requested the use of sustainable products when available and practical and Kat provided me with several local suppliers to visit and help me with my selection. Kat somehow arranged a behind the scenes tour of a very promiment green facility in Portland where I saw first hand how renovations and replicas where crafted. I had the opportunity of experiencing Kat and her crew in action as they worked at the Heathman Hotel in Portland. Kat navigated her creations and equipment quietly through the four star gem and I saw the complexity and realized what a challenge that project presented for Kat. Her crew worked around guests and her crew presented a very professional demeanor. I saw Kat interact with her crew, subcontractors, hotel management and occassionally likened it to herding cats. I will definitely call upon Kat (BlueVine Studio) and her crew for my next project. Bryan MeyerApr 4, 2016
When my husband and I recently bought a house with a bright array of colors, we immediately knew that we wanted to tone everything down. Kat was extremely helpful, and helped us find neutral shades that all worked cohesively. I'd recommend her for anyone needing a color consult.Oct 28, 2016Verified
Extremely organized and very quick to provide information. Great ideas and knowledge, and knows when to bring in experts to help. Many options maintaining my ideas/taste and adding touches I would not think of.Jun 2, 2016Verifiedbluevine studio llc's reply
Libbie - Thank you for the review. You were such pleasure to work with. I look forward to catching up over lunch soon! Best, Kat
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Project pricing in Interior Design is always based on the project scope and range of services needed. It is best to have a consultation with an Interior Designer to get the most accurate estimate of services.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I typically meet with a client in the space(s) they are looking to design in. I then listen, listen, ask questions, and listen to what they hope to experience in these spaces and who they are. In the case of a property for sale I listen to who the target audience is. From there I create colors, textures, styling boards and start the exange of confirmation that we are going the right direction. Mapping is where I bring the designs together with layout, furniture choices, material options and budgets. when design selections have been made I project manage the purchasing, deliveries, timelines and staging as well as any needed subcontractors or permits from the city. Lastly we have a photoshoot and pop the cork for a toast.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, CSI Certificate in Project Managment, A CCB License and ongoing construction contractor education, currently i am taking extended education in Architecture Design. I am always in the study of art, design and seeking inspiration!
