I hired these guys a couple days ago to move all my household items that were in storage (10x20) to my new home. I personally wasn't there for the job as I was working but my wife was. It made me happy to hear from her that the guys that did the work were very nice, polite and did a great job. Nothing was broken, I didn't see any marks on my walls or doors and everything was stacked neatly in the garage with the heavy items placed neatly in the house like I asked. This was the first time I've ever hired a company to move my things so I didn't really know what to expect but I'm glad I did. The day will come where I need to move again and I will be calling Nick and his team once again. We are very happy and satisfied customers. Thank you

These guys saved the day for us! The company we had hired to move us (All My Sons Moving and Storage) cancelled on us 1 hour before they were scheduled to arive. Larry had a crew at our house the next morning and got us moved that day. His guys were very carefull and respectfull with our belongings and hard working at the same time. I strongly recommend 503 Moving Labor Services for anyone who needs thier moving done right!

Excellent Job - very well done - 3,500 miles across country I found "moving with ease" through Thumbtak. I had a very long distance move. We needed our house contents which were in a 20 x 22 feet storage unit in Vancouver, WA moved to the middle of Florida. I had five quotes from various companies, three of these were through Thumbtak (who I had never used before).. Two of the quotes were from the big removal companies who were very expensive and very thorough. Of the three Thumbtak quotes, moving with ease was the only one who asked to see the storage unit. One of the big companies was there for 3/4 hour doing a full inventory of what needed shipped, Robert (moving with ease) took just over 10 minutes to size it up and gave me a good price within one hour of seeing the storage. We agreed the dates and times I needed and the job was his. Robert and a helper showed up just before the scheduled time on the Sunday and packed everything quickly and efficiently into the truck. I was extremely impressed by Robert's skill of packing the truck tightly and carefully for the minimum of movement. It was like watching Tetris with furniture, boxes and odd shaped items. After two hours, the truck was fully packed to the door and the storage unit was empty. It was amazing - his estimate was spot-on.. Eight days later on the scheduled date, just before the scheduled time, Robert knocked on the door of our new house in Florida. He took a quick look round the house and started work. He was joined by two local movers and they had the truck unloaded, beds assembled, furniture and boxes in place in the house in three hours. They could not have been more helpful. My summary would be, moving with ease is not like the other companies. There is no sales talk, no complications, communication is quick, you ask a question, you get an answer very quickly. No frills, no beating around the bush - no extra charges for piano, TV, Kayak (we had all three) straight to the point, no surprises AND the quote you are given is what you pay. They work hard and get the job done well. I am glad I went with my gut feeling that Robert was a very trustworthy person and ignored the doubts I had of using this small, unknown company. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Cutting brush and yard maintenace. He arrived when he said he would and got right to work. He was very reasonable with his prices and did everything I had asked and even moved some rock that wasn't in the original bid. I was so pleased I referred my mom to him.

My boyfriend and I had a hellacious couple of days leading up to our move from San Francisco back to Portland; a delayed-overnight flight from NYC the night before our move wrecked our schedule and gave us jet lag, we had a truck that was too small, and not enough help to pack and load. By the time we finally got on the road in our Uhaul a day and a half late, we were spent. As soon as we were en route, I started hunting on my phone for some last minute help to get the truck unpacked in Portland; we both knew we would be useless by the time we arrived that evening, and never wanted to touch another box again. I posted a plea on Thumbtack and Gentle Touch Movers replied almost immediately, along with a handful of other promising providers. However, GTM continued to be super responsive, accommodating, understanding, and helpful. Within about 20 minutes of communicating with them via chat on TT and consulting with the boyfriend, we had 2 guys booked! GTM was available as quickly as that same evening we would arrive (around 7pm was our ETA), but we opted for the following morning so we could pass out as soon as we arrived. As soon as they showed up right on time they went striaght to work, and were very polite and even fun to work with, though the boyfriend and I did very little work beyond direct them and the flow of boxes. Within almost exactly 2 hours our packed-to-the-brim 15' Uhaul was unloaded, and boxes were either distributed to their proper rooms in the apartment, or in our on-site storage unit. The overall experience of being able to book everything so quickly with Gentle Touch Movers via Thumbtack, and the service GTM provided was an incredible relief and absolutely a great value at the rate we were given. I highly recommend their services to anyone and will be using them again the next time we move!

We hired Amazing Moving & Storage to help us unpack our POD. Billy was friendly and professional throughout the whole process. He checked in leading up to the event to make sure we knew when he and his coworker would arrive. Throughout the unpacking process they were laughing and interacting with me and my husband and made us feel very comfortable! In addition to their friendly demeanor they were extremely efficient. We plan to use them for any future moving needs we may have, I can't recommend them enough!

Hernandez and Juan moved most of our heavy belonging out of our house in the 5 hours that we hired them for. I would recommend using Hernandez to a friend as they worked quickly and carefully. One bummer though, we overpaid him and he could have noticed it. Our agreement was supposed to be 350 and we paid him 400. Then I I payed him another 40 for a tip. That would have been a good opportunity to realize we paid enough already with the 400. This is what happens when both you and your partner square up with the movers.

Nick Heisen and his crew have really come through for us. Over the last month we've done five local moves (house-to-house, storage-to-house, storage-to-storage, etc.) and he has done a great job. Responsive, courteous, efficient, dependable, and CAREFUL. Highly recommended.

I rarely leave reviews even when they are deserved, but I felt compelled to leave one for Michael and his crew, a WELL DESERVED 5 star rating. Two months ago my wife had been offered a great job oppurtunity in East Palmdale California and immediately we started planning for the move. After a few unsettling and unprofessional talks with other so called “ professionals” I was one phone call away from cashing in favors with friends and family to get this done myself. FYI I didn’t want to do that at all..... Long story short, I found Michaels company, Priority Moving Services on Thumbtack and, to put it lightly, I’m glad I did. Michael is a young man with courtesy, professionalism, honesty, and work ethic well beyond his years. Within 20 minutes of phone conversation with him, I knew exactly what to expect in regards to service, cost, time, and procedure. This guy must have nailed it with his lemonade stand as a kid because he knows how to conduct his business. He explained which size truck I would need for the move and even recommended some options as to where to get the truck( not all uhauls are the same, as I now know). Michael and his crew loaded the truck safely, securely and efficiently. These guys exceeded my expectations from the moment they arrived. They literally rolled out red carpets for us( to protect my floors... lol). Energetic, polite, clean cut crew that treated my families belongings as if they were their own. When we arrived at our new Two story house in East Palmdale, there was not one single item damaged! Seriously, not one. WOW. Thank You Michael, you are living proof that good personal customer service and quality in workmanship still exists! As a side note, they loaded our patio plants last and even recommended we should give them a little water before we left.... No Kidding, his crew watered our plants from their own jugs of water they had brought to drink!!!!!

I contacted Antonio through Thumbtack for a move from Oregon to California. He was professional, but at the same time personable. I had two drops . . .one at my condo and one at my storage facility . . .and it was no problem! I could not have asked for a better experience, and would recommend Rip City Moving without hesitation.

These guys are great! I called and got an appointment in less than a week. They showed up on time & ready to go. They didn't waste any time, and I was impressed with how professional and prepared they were, with all kinds of time-saving equipment. These guys are machines. Throughout the 4 hours they were with me they continually asked what I wanted, what more can they help with... all with a big smile & friendly vibe. All the furniture made it without a scratch. They moved our ~ 500lb rifle safe like it was nothing. I also loved that they came with extra tall boxes for loose things that I had yet to pack. Four hours of their time, moving from Beaverton to Tigard cost about $500 which maybe sounds expensive (?) but honestly I felt so comfortable with them and they did such a good job it's totally worth it. Overall, I would call them again the next time I move, guaranteed.

Michael W. and Aaron helped my family and I move from our house to an apartment with a stop at our storage along the way. They were early arriving which was great to get started sooner. They were extremely efficient and we were done with our entire move within 3 hours! I’ll most definitely be using this service again in the future when we buy.

Without a doubt this move was the most difficult in our life. The reasons are too numerous to mention, but much of it was because of the desire to downsize and simplify. And doing that is a painful process. We have crammed tons of furniture into an old family farm house. We think O'Neill Transfer and Storage did an incredible job. We are very happy we chose them from a number of companies. Their moving crew, especially the two Mikes, went well beyond the extra miles. They were very polite, alway had a "can do" attitude, and we're very careful and respectful of our stuff, including irreplaceable precious antiques. We cannot give enough kudos to these two Mikes. Thank you to the two Bradleys and the two Mikes!

Alex and company are amazing! We were being strung along by our big-name moving company, and needed to be in Missouri to start a new job. After yet another delay, and yet another "guarantee", we were desperate and found AmerApex Moving. Alex contacted us on a Monday and by Thursday, they were there! They were absolute lifesavers, and did everything they could to take care of our belongings and make us feel at ease. And then they were in Missouri by Saturday to unload everything in our new house! On top of that, they are incredibly friendly and made a stressful situation feel much lighter. We can't thank Alex enough, and wish every moving company out there could be half as professional and effective as his!

Very nice people, nice company, reliable. Go for it. I went with a dedicated truck option and I don’t regret it. Never used a moving company in the states, only when I move here from France. I highly recommend. Both, they were so charming and helpful, as they transformed a “scary moving” in a smooth operation… Perfect move !

You guys were great! A quick phone call on a Saturday afternoon asking for a pickup Sunday at 11 o’clock to help me move a large piece of furniture from my home to a storage garage. I asked for Roy as another person had suggested, and was very pleased. Both Roy and Tyson showed up on time, were professional, and thorough. Roy was very conscientious about how to move and store my mother’s antique China cabinet. My husband and I had some suggestions ourselves and we all got along easily while handling this large piece of furniture down some stairs and into our van. Their price was good, it does not include a vehicle. So it costs more if you need a truck. We were able to fit it in our van, no problem. At the other end of the job, they wrapped it in the blankets we provided and the shrink wrap to wrap around it, and once again why and Tyson were conscientious, and thorough. And quick! It was a very small job, but those of us who are older and can’t lift heavy things, we depend on people like you to help us out. Roy was very appreciative, respectful, and friendly.Great job Done Rite Movers, I

Moving is normally a very scary, & expensive, along with being at the mercy of who you chose to help move you. This was a bit different but was good in many ways. We packed our own items into boxes. Then they picked up all the boxes and large furniture and took it to our new residence. They handled everything in a professional manner, setting everything where we requested. Our move was within the same local area. This was a lot less financial burden to us and wasn't the stress normally associated with moving.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
