I recently used Moyers Moving Services to move from Pennsylvania to North Carolina. The movers were professional and were willing to be flexible to meet our moving time line. We originally signed a quote for 3 movers but only 2 arrived due to third having car issues. Emily from Moyers was quick to adjust the quote and only charge us for 2 movers. Overall it was a fairly stress free move and we are happy with the service.

We could not have asked for better movers. The contact person Art took care of all of the details. This was a last minute booking. The day befoe the move our plans fell through so we were greatful to find a company to move us. The two movers were extremely nice and professional. They accommodated our timeline and went out of their way to try to move a piece of furniture that was really hard to move down a narrow staircase. They had the best attitude and worked as a team. It's refreshing to see such great customer service despite the difficulty of that kind of work. Would recommend I like to Move It Move It to everyone, A special shout out to our two movers... This was a last minute move that included some very large antiques and some very tight corners. The movers were punctual, professional, and personable. They communicated well at every step of the prep, loading, and unloading process. Their price was completely reasonable and I found them to be diligent - something that isn't always the case when you hire a mover by the hour. All in all, I received great value for money and would definitely use them again. A++

I had a great experience with Table-Tek. Rob was very good about getting back to me to insure the process was as quick and smooth as possible. The movers/installers were excellent. Very professional, courteous, and knew what they were doing. I highly recommend Table-Tek if you need to move a pool table and insure it is installed and leveled properly.

John & Ed installed 2 of my tables (both regulation) during the past year and they are truly outstanding! It's hard to believe they are the last standing official pool table company in Philadelphia but it's my opinion this game is coming back with a vengeance especially considering how busy they are. They always fit me in and worked with my schedule and they were very careful navigating the large parts through my home and go the extra mile to make sure they were placed exactly where I wanted it. All the advice they gave me made me feel like a valued customer. I never knew it's actually called "cloth" not felt or that it's made of goat hair! All in all my expensive tables (one antique & one custom table done by XotikPlay) were installed perfectly and there was no mess when they left. It's really a white glove service and their prices are very fair. They also have used pool tables for sale and can procure anything you want for a more budget friendly packaged deal. Shop around and see for yourself, they are the best bang for the buck. The other guys are just movers, pool tables require a SPECIALIST! Believe me if it's worth doing it's worth doing right for years of enjoyable play. Call them and ask for John he's as friendly as can be.

The poor movers got a rude awakening when they arrived and I was far less ready for them than I was supposed to be, and I had twice as much stuff as they had expected me to have. But, they hunkered down immediately and got me fully packed in very good time. Plus they were friendly, polite and diligent.

I was hesitant at first because I could not find Yelp reviews or much information on this company. After my move, I will no longer use any other movers. Their price was $200 lower than any other competitor and their attention to detail and care of my belongings was far superior than any other mover I have used in the past. I had a 9 foot credenza that kept me up for nights before my move because I wasn't sure if these guys were going to be able to move it out. They not only got it in record time, but they also took the time to wrap it and plan out their approach. I cannot say enough great things about this company. You will not regret hiring these guys.

I was purchasing a house and wanted to have the closets painted on the day we moved in. Since we couldn't get into the house earlier, Carlos and I ended up working out a minimum cost for the job with the plan that when he showed up, we could discuss the full cost to see if it was within our price range. If we couldn't agree on the full cost of the job, he was atleast prepared to do what he could for the agreed upon minimum cost. This was very beneficial for us as we wanted to paint the closets before we started unpacking and not have to wait a couple days to do so. The work quality and text communication was good. My negative feedback was that I asked multiple times leading up to the painting day if he would supply the paint and I never got a clear answer on this. When he showed up and gave us the full estimate (which we accepted because his prices are competitive), he said we would now need to go buy paint to do the job. So the stress of moving and coordinating with movers and cleaners, having to run out for paint was an added stress which could've been avoided.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
