Everything went great with Dzevad. He was quick to come out and provide an estimate for painting our shutters, garage door, trim, and front door. His price was great and he stuck to his quote. He started two weeks later and was completed in 3 days. My wife and I really like the job he did on the house. Before he started the paint chipping badly. He scraped off all the chipped paint and prepping the house to be painted. He was also extremely friendly and helpful during the entire process. He was even great with my young children (1.5 and 4 years old) who always felt the need to chat with him as he worked. I would definitely use Dzevad again.

Chameleon Painters did almost the entire upstairs of my house, as well as entry way and stairway. I am thrilled at how it turned out! George was wonderful and so easy to work with - very quick responses, very timely, and very reasonable. Everything looks great and so refreshed. I am pregnant so had concerns about what type of paint to use, and George made sure to be safe about types of paint used and was very thoughtful of my concerns. In addition, they were very thorough and very quick on getting in and out to complete the project. He even went above and beyond and patched up/caulked a few extra things we didn't originally point out, along with some extra work on one of our ceilings. I have already planned additional projects for Chameleon to work with again for next month! I will continue to use George and team in the future for all of our painting needs in our home! Thank you!

It was a pleasure to work with Leo. Very pleased with his understanding of my unique project (preparing a house to sell w/o going overboard & $ crazy). He was able to address many things from repairing composite deck issues to painting kitchen cabinets, painting and repairing walls of multiple textures, bathroom work, basement cleaning and plumbing, new doors, etc.

I had an older door in my house that needed new hinges and painted to match the room. I thought about getting a new door and paying install costs but after seeing the work I’m glad I made the call. Affordable, reliable, professional. I have more projects for him in the future

We had unexpected and significant plumbing issues two weeks before closing on the sale of our house. The plumbers fixed the pipes but left 3 massive holes in the walls and ceiling. Bill came in and less than two days later it was like the holes were never there. He went above and beyond, primed over the water stains, even cleaned up the mess the plumbers left! All for a fraction of the cost I would have paid the other guys. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for professional, efficient plaster or paint work done in their hone.

Chad's workmanship is meticulous. He came into a room in need of help with sanding, cutting trim, painting and it looks better than I could envision myself. His work was quick and spot on. If he didn't like it, he made it better. Will be hiring Chad again.

Charles did good work and the quality and ideas were good. What prevented a 5-star rating was a small paint spill that was not cleaned up, not giving an exact quote for the exact work to be done and a misunderstanding about the what work will be completed under the labor amount quoted. We will hire Charles again as he was nice to work with but we will be clear about what our expectations are next project.

He was amazing! We worked out a great price for what we wanted painted originally and since he's been doing such a great job we hired him to paint the rest of our home. He is respectful of our time and is willing to work with you on price. We would highly recommend him!

We hired Golden Brush Painting to paint the entire 1st floor of our new home including the trim work. We have a pretty big house. 2500 square feet. They did an excellent job and even helped us pick out paint colors. They had the job done in a very fast efficient manner. Would definitely hire them again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
