I'm super happy with my resume. In fact, Katie provided me a couple of versions of my resume in order to appeal for two slightly different sectors that I am interested in. What I liked most is that through the process of revising my resume, she provided me with excellent feedback that thoughtfully challenged some traditional, long held assumptions I've had about career transitions. I'm a current non profit CEO trying to transition into the philanthropic sector and/or external highly public communications positions. The reframe she provided for may work experience and academic background is going to be so helpful in my job search - plus I have an awesome resume!

Syreeta is Heaven sent, to say the least! Prior to meeting her, I'd paid another individual to complete my resume- and the end result was horrific! I then submitted a request for a resume writer via Thumbtack, and Syreeta responded immediately. Her response was professional, thorough, and to the point. She called me on the same night and provided a detailed explanation of her services, and then asked a series of pertinent questions regarding my career. I immediately felt at ease during our initial conversation. We met the very next day for about an hour, and when I attempted to pay her, she explained that the initial consultation is always free. How awesome is that! I really appreciate the fact that she opted to meet up with me face to face versus sending a questionnaire or form to fill out. I'm a Software Engineer and she let me know that she did not have a strong IT background- but was willing to work with me side by side, until it met my expectation. She literally stayed up all night writing my resume and I really appreciate her efforts and willingness to do this at a moment's notice. Once I received the final draft of my resume the next day, I was blown away. It exceeded my expectation, to say the least. And I forgot to mention that this all took place over the course of 3 days :) I highly recommend Syreeta for any service that her business offers. She delivers on time and does magnificent work.

Leslie has been tutoring my teenager son for 2 years. Since she started, his English level, writing and reading have improved tremendously, going from below average to beyond expectations. Leslie demonstrated excellent teaching skills, being softer at times and pushing more when needed. Moreover she shown a lot of flexibility to adapt to him and his scheduled when needed and always got the work done. Leslie has been above and beyond expectations!

My friend Joel was the most patient, tolerant and understanding professional I have worked with. He was very accommodating and a great motivator. It was my pleasure working with him. He was able to help me develop my thoughts and research in an academic and logical manner. I would recommend Joel to anyone that's in need of a proofreader and a great editor. Thank you Joel for all your help. I don't feel I could have earned my master's degree without his assistance. Many thanks!!!

I attended Strategic Communications course with Holly, and have consulted with her throughout years on that topic. She has an outstanding command of English, grammar and resume writing. One of her many skills sets is recognizing strengths and presenting them clearly.

Over the last 2.5 years, David Gertler has helped me edit a book I am writing about chess. As a philosophy professor, I have had 12 books published in the last decade (mostly new editions of textbooks), and so I have extensive experience with editors, proofreaders, compositors, and so on. Mr. Gertler's work has been exemplary -- helpful, insightful, and prompt. He has done research for me, improved my prose, and noticed apostrophes that were backwards. He has marked up around 35 different chapters (sometimes multiple drafts), totaling several hundred single-spaced pages. I have agreed with upwards of 90% of his suggestions, which might be a record in my experience. He is one of the very best.

My work stands out because I adjust my methods to suit the needs of the client(s). If I am tutoring someone with test anxiety, for example I utilize techniques which deal with the individual's fear of the test, so they may successfully complete the exam. Finally, I help my clients develop their own strategies for writing papers, in the future. The ability to help individuals accomplish their goals!

I have extensive experience in writing and editing for 30 yrs in the Pharma industry. I am very pleasant, motivated and also have management skills in training and managing employees.

My work stands out because I'm very sincere in sharing my time, abilities and efforts with customers. The thing I love most about my job is helping people who want assistance.

EPD was established over 20 years ago as a recruiting firm in the pharmaceutical and medical device field. It was necessary to submit convincing proposals in an effort to secure job orders or high-level searches. Strong resumes were an absolute part of the process. In addition, I am working on a novel and have extensive experience in public speaking. Writing projects: speechs, proposals, business plans, manuscript editing, resumes, short skits and story lines. Below is an example of my work: IN SEARCH OF POPPA CHAPTER ONE I was born a bastard. At least, that’s what my mother told me the last time the subject came up; in fact, every time the subject came up. At the top of her voice, she screamed, “I ain’t telling you shit! You ain’t got no damn father!” The angry shouts that followed were so loud that it was hard to distinguish between the sudden ringing in my ears or the hammering of my heart against the inside walls of my chest, in a futile attempt to jump out of its cavity. Tatemsville, Georgia is our home...behind the general store that faced the railroad tracks. Jus’ follow the dirt road on the side of the general store and then turn right at the second corner: that‘s us...along with twelve other neighboring two room-look alike- unpainted wooden shacks. Our community is a small tightly knitted village on the outer southwestern edge of Savannah where we revel in a rich, comfortable blues singing poverty with pockets as empty as a banker’s heart…maybe seven or eight pigs. Further east, on the edge of Tatemsville, is the spirited-“Holy-Roller”-church of the richest man in our village: “The Sweet Daddy Grace.” And a couple of steps away from his sanctuary, the branches of a massive Oak and a cluster of Chinaberry trees shade Mr. Leroy’s Snake Pit Tavern and a giant hole in the ground that serves as the community’s barbecue pit. Two old bed springs, covered the top of the community barbecue pit and serve as the cooking counter. And underneath...a buildup of red coals, bits and pieces of Oak logs have already burned down, simmering and glowing in the pit, making a fizzzzzing noise. Smells of cooking rabbits penetrated the air and a reddish well-seasoned sauce soaked their small bones and dripped through the bed springs giving off a char-grill fragrance mingled with a slight hickory odor that escaped in smoke drifting through the narrow holes of the springs. Nearby two hogs hang around patiently, uncomplainingly, stabbed through the heart, split open, gutted and strung up gaping and bloody, waiting for their barbecuing rendezvous.

I will write articles and other written content, transcribe audio, and edit video content for you. If you are unsure if your request fits this criteria, please don't hesitate to ask.

I provide writing and editing assistance. I am a longtime professional writer who can provide content for websites, write freelance articles or edit website materials.

I listen to my clients and students to gain an understanding of how they process information and what contexts they want their work to appear and adjust my performance accordingly. I work with their professional, cognitive and needs based directions to create documents, work or understanding meaningful to the client or student more than to me. I learn from my clients and students every day.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

        • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
        • Strong writing skills.
        • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
        • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
        • Expertise in your target area.
        • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

        • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
        • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
        • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
        • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
