Jessica Jean says, "My husband and I bought an older house that we knew we would need a new front door and windows because they were the originals when the house was built. When we had the money ready for this endeavor, we set out to find the right place to do the job. Some places had good products but bad service, others had bad service but good products. It was hard to decide who to choose.Eventually, Elias came to pitch his sale for GES. He is personable and quite friendly, though he did stay for about 2 hours. My biggest qualm is that it was very "sales-y". He tested in house the doors and windows comparing their product with others on the market. After the sales pitch, it was "Hey, I can give you a discount if you do x,y,z." Then you get the final price which he pushes you to sign. If you don't, he calls his "boss" and they negotiate a lower price. My suggestion is to not sign at the time of the visit, because we waited and once Elias left a woman who deals with the "financial" side of the business said she could give us a cheaper offer. Here we were able to negotiate a better price and knocked over $7000 off of the original price. The installation of 9 windows took about a full day of work just to install the windows but had to come back the next day just to deal with the fascia. They only sent out one guy to do all of the windows and fascia. The door was installed a few days later, which was also done by one guy. I feel that production might be quicker and more efficient with a few man crew. During installation, the timing was often off which was an inconvenience when working from home and having to put away animals.Overall, we are very happy with the results. The windows have been very helpful with keeping the house cool during the brutal heat. The new front door looks amazing!! Because of the great products, I would recommend GES. Just be aware of the sales side of this and know how to negotiate.Although I did receive financial compensation for this review, it is an honest review."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

The average cost of installing a door ranges roughly between $90 and $750. This price will vary, however — which it’s important to get cost estimates from several exterior or interior door installation companies so you know how much your specific project will cost.

For example, the type of door you’re installing and its material will factor into the price. If you want to add side or transom windows, this could raise the price. Other factors include whether you’re installing a standard-size opening or a sliding door, and whether you need to replace an existing door.

Installing a door is by no means trivial, but it is doable with the right tools, skills and preparation. The easiest scenario is a door replacement with a new door with dimensions that are identical to the one being replaced. Pre-hung doors are relatively easy to install.

But if you’re familiar with this process, don’t hesitate to hire a pro instead.

The amount of time it takes to replace a door and doorframe is likely to take several hours and less than one day. The old door frame must come out, trim must be removed, and the rough opening may have to be adjusted in size to accommodate the new door. Factors that increase the time needed include larger doors, side or transom windows, damage or rot and installing a door without a provided frame.

Many contractors are typically able to install doors. Another type of pro you can contact is a handyman. Handymen are usually capable of performing most construction-related tasks, though they may need certain credentials if they perform structural work. A carpenter may also be able to install your new doors, as well as companies that specialize in door installation.

Search for either interior or exterior door installation services near you to find the right pro.

A door typically takes a few hours or within a day to install, depending on its complexity and the company that's installing it. It also depends on the type of door, the number of installers and prep work needed. When you’re contacting interior and exterior door installation companies, ask them how long they expect your installation will take.
