My had a really good experience with Shining Stars Tutoring. I contacted Connie after getting a bad grade on my probability and statistics math test. She was able to set me up with a tutor named Seanna right away. I worked with Seanna for a couple of weeks and was able to turn my grade from a C to an A. Seanna was awesome! She went above and beyond for me. She was able to work around my school schedule and answered any questions I had. I would definitely recommend Shining Stars Tutor.

I had a great experience working with Michael in preparation for my series 7 exam. He was extremely knowledgeable on all aspects of the exam. Michael was generous with his time and by the time I took my exam I was very confident. The one on one time and tutoring was invaluable. Having the immediate feedback from a tutor was exactly what I needed in my preparation. I passed my exam on the first sitting. I would highly recommend Michael to anyone preparing to take the series 7 exam. Wes Palmer

Our experience is with Mrs. Christman. She is an amazing person and is compassionate and really bonds with the children. My daughter just adores her. She has helped my daughter go from being well behind her grade level in reading to fastly approaching where she needs to be. She has given my daughter confidence in not just reading but in all areas and has taught her that she is intelligent and capable of meeting the goals set out before her. I would recommend Mrs. Christman to any student that needs a confidence boost with their school work as well as foundational skills to succeed.

As a secondary math textbook editor, my job is to create math textbooks that will help students succeed in school. I love learning and firmly believe that given the right tools, any student can excel at math. I was blessed with inspirational math teachers throughout my academic career, and many of the approaches I take when tutoring are a reflection of the methods that were so effective in helping me understand and really appreciate math. Every student learns differently; I believe flexibility in teaching style is essential to a successful tutor-student relationship. Math is an essential subject to master no matter what direction you intend to take in life, and I greatly enjoy making it come alive to my students. I desire to invest in other students the way I have been invested in by my teachers, and nothing is more fulfilling than seeing my students succeed.

Unique in its approach, The Learning Tree offers programs that are specifically tailored to each child. Each engagement starts with an initial consultation at which students needs are assessed and matched with a tutor who will then work closely with parents, the student and their teachers to identify areas for improvement in the student’s learning styles. The Tutor then develops a program with lessons uniquely suited to the student. Our goal is to make the process of learning yield better results and therefore be more satisfying. Through the program, students do become more proficient at mastering the skills taught in regular school curriculum, they build confidence in their ability to learn plus retain lessons, and ultimately develop the desire to achieve in the classroom as well as in life.

I am soon to be fully certified secondary teacher in mathematics. I am looking for tutoring jobs in either mathematics or language arts, to help earn some extra cash. What makes me great for this job is that I am not just looking to tutor, but am also a teacher and enjoy helping students. I have a love for math and am also an enthusiastic individual with a good sense of humor, and your children will love learning and getting help from me!

Each of my teaching experiences have offered me practical experience and professional development that I find invaluable in tutoring situations. My students have introduced me to many cultural opportunities and increased my awareness of the vast differences in learners that careful instructors must be prepared to meet. The challenges I have faced in accommodating multiple disabilities within the same classroom have ended up being the strongest push toward growth as an instructor.

I help students gain and understanding the basics of math, Algebra, Algebra II, and Geometry. I encourage their God given talents and abilities that enables the child to excel in these areas.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. How much does home tutoring cost?

The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes.
