Jack of All Trades did an amazing job with the work they did in our home. They tiled multiple areas(including kitchen back-splash), installed hardwood flooring, painted kitchen cabinets, including new doors. They also painted rooms, shutters and exterior door and installed a window. These jobs were done with the utmost professionalism and work quality. Jack of All Trades consulted us on any issues, or questions regarding the job. We would recommend them to anyone and will definitely use their services again!

I had a long strip of carpet that was left in disrepair by a previous owner. Robert worked with the remnant I had to make quick work of seaming the strip so now the room is uniform and complete. The job was more than I thought but Robert was very professional and easy to work with. I would highly recommend his services and will call him again when I'm ready for the wood floor installation.

Chris is highly professional and works extremely hard. He is always on time and steadily works throughout the day, giving you everything you are paying for. He pays attention to detail as if he were carefully working in his own home. He is cheerful and easy to communicate with. I felt as if I had known him for years, yet it has only been days. I am totally impressed and happy with his installation of our wood floors. Every plank lines up perfectly with other floor planks, unlike other installs I've seen where the contractor said, the planks are suppose to be out of alignment to give the floor some character. I say if you want it done right and you can't do it yourself ... call Chris. Thanks Chris for a job well done and for giving our home a face lift we will all enjoy for many, many years. Chris installed the wood floors in our St. Cloud home.

McSwain was and is a professional. My wood that I ordered was not the same wood that I ordered from a company in Georgia. I told McSwain about what happened and he told me to let him know when the correct wood arrives and he will ready to install it. True to his word, my 365sqft hardwood was installed on a Saturday(all in one day). Outstanding

Tony and Benjy removed popcorn ceilings throughout much of our downstairs. They worked hard to cover walls and floors before beginning the removal, and took all the garbage out with them when finished. The ceilings look great! Nice clean lines and smooth texture. We are still finding places where there are some popcorn pieces left on the floor or on top of ceiling fans, but I really think it would've been impossible to get absolutely everything totally clean. Most of the house was cleaned very well afterward. So glad we went with Superior Painting!

I found Andrew here on Thumbtack as well as interviewed a few others to do my tile backsplash in my kitchen. I always look for a professional with a good working relationship (verbal, on time, good communication, interaction with family members, etc). Andrew exemplified all of these qualities and then there was the actual work! He did an amazing job on our tile backsplash install in our kitchen. My wife and I couldn't be happier with the outcome! I would hire him again!

It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Arturo. I can truly appreciate a company that does what they say they’re going to do, when they say they’re going to do it. Within a few days of contacting him through Thumbtack he had come out to our home and given us a written estimate, and that is what we paid, "No hidden cost" at the end of the job. We had our kitchen floor and 4 bathrooms retiled, he also took out our old standing acrylic shower and put in a new tile shower and it all looks amazing and better yet, it was all done in about a week and a half. Arturo was very professional and communicated with us through the whole process. We have other future projects that we plan on using him for.

Very satisfied with his work. Not only he did an excellent work with the kitchen backslash tile installation, but he also fixed/repaired a couple of other things (oven light, wood floor repair, etc.) . Very easy to communicate with. It didn't take him long to finish, and he was fast and flexible. I strongly recommend him.

It's so nice that I hired recom LLC to help me finish the replacement for the hardwood floor. I was hesitating to decide on the laminated floor or an engineered hardwood floor. Mr. Amin is so patient and professional for answering all of my questions. The installers were so hard working with high efficiency. They finished the project within one day! The most important thing is they offered me the cheapest price! I am so happy to have them!

Tyler and his crew were great! He had excellent ideas and his knowledge of construction was great. I had Tyler come out to do some hardwood floors, and they turned out awesome. Me and my wife couldn't be happier. We are now in the process of having him do a bathroom remodel for us. I can't wait to see the final product. One of our bathrooms was in need of an overhaul and updating, I contacted Jonn from Cumberland Carpentry to stop out for an estimate to remove the old flooring, put in new vinyl plank flooring, install a new vanity and a new toilet. His estimate was within our budget and we contracted him to complete the job. Our bathroom look gorgeous , the higher vanity and toilet certainly improved the look, the flooring install is perfect and it was completed in record timing. I am very happy with the work he performed, he was so neat and tidy and truly respected my home. thanks again for a job well done

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

      • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
        • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
      • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
        • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
      • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
        • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
      • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
        • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
      • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
        • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
        • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
        • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
          • Includes removal of the dura rock.
      • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

      • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
        • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
      • 620 square feet of maple floor:
        • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
        • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
          • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
