  1. #1 John Pennell's Music Lessons

    (20 reviews)

    Carrie K.

I just had my very first lesson with John Pennell and I already tell you but hands-down this man is an exceptional teacher. I've been a songwriter for 10 years and for the most part I've never been to particular about my performance on the guitar - i've often wished I could be the caliber of player but I want to hear but not the caliber of player I wanted to practice. John Pennell and put this all at rest. Most guitar teachers and mentors tend to approach students with the material they feel like the student should know or needs to meet their performance goals. Songwriters particularly – or myself particularly find more satisfaction in picking up bits and pieces of s and understandings styles and most instructors are not comfortable with that. From the minute I started working John Pennell he was much more interested in what I wanted to know and continued to work on things that I found interesting and effective for my style of music - we worked on Travis picking up together which is been a huge mental block for me for many. many (many) and John made it such a Zen like experience with the first thing I did was go home and have my guitar case and write this review. Somewhere in the transition between my dedication to an instrument & the day to day to night to night process of creating I became very lazy with my instrument even though the projectile is practically welded into my skin. When I got home and I opened up my guitar case and began playing immediately and I paused to publicly say THANK YOU - thumbtack - it's a true freedom to feel like you're at home with your instrument and I have not been years :) I hope the beginning of a brand-new sound - thanks again.

I have been playing guitar now for around 5 years. Being self taught, I felt I had plateaued out and learned as much as I could teach myself. I started lessons with Shane at Green Hills Guitar Studio and all that changed. He has opened my eyes to a whole new side of music that I never understood before. He is an extremely knowledgeable and great teacher, with the patience of job. I would give him 10 stars if I could.

Thumbtack Spotlight

Clinetel Music

Thornton Cline grew up being inspired with various private music teachers he studied with. On top of the list was Anastasia Jempelis, one of the great Suzuki violin teachers, whom he assisted for in graduate school. With the encouragement of his mother and sister, Thornton started his own music teaching business.

The most effective strategy that I have found is to personalize and tailor my teaching to fit each unique personality. I have developed and written a new book "Practice Personalities: What's Your Type?" published by Centerstream/Hal Leonard Publishing which I use daily to tailor specific teaching strategies to fit each unique student personality.

Thornton has helped an array of students ranging from ages 3 to adults in reaching their musical dreams. His favorite project to date was the formation of his touring group, The Nashville Suzuki Players. He has directed the students with their concerts in over 10 states, including one in Disney World. It is one fulfilling project for Thornton.

Constant and quick communication is the key. It is important to be attentive to their needs and to be a mentor to them. Frequent concerts, performances, contests and rewards are also important.

Get tailored and personalized mentoring from a musical expert himself; try Thornton Cline, and get lifetime opportunities that most teachers simply don't offer.
