My husband and I undertook 36 hours of guitar lessons with John over a 2 week period, mostly together, which was in itself a challenge! We were also beginners and John treated us with the utmost respect and we never felt like 'fools'. The time we have spent with John will ultimately make the difference between us being enthusiastic guitar players, which I know we will be, and not feeling like failures and losing interest, which could well have happened if we had not discovered John. So for those of you looking for a fantastic, enthusiastic (and Beatles fan) teacher, don't hesitate to contact John Pennell in Nashville. We highly recommend him.

I enjoyed my first piano lesson with Tatia. She was quickly able to ascertain my experience and ability and gave me pieces and scales to work on that suit me. Tatia is pleasant to work with and I look forward to more lessons and to making progress in my piano playing.

I took weekly guitar lessons from Matt Kass for six years when he lived in Philadelphia. Matt focuses on teaching you the music you want to learn to play and at a pace that is comfortable to your level of proficiency. He combines instruction on the fundamentals of playing a guitar with the basics of music theory so that lesson time is spent not just on how to play the guitar by why particular chords or notes work together and their relationship to the different modes of the major scale. As a professional musician, Matt is thoroughly knowledgeable about the guitar and music in general but is incredibly personable, thoughtful, reliable and friendly. He is able to tailor his teaching approach to your individual needs and helps you progress at a pace that is appropriate to your skill level. The thing that impressed me the most in Matt's teaching ability was his patience and willingness to help me around obstacles or plateaus in my playing ability. You feel that he is fully invested in your learning and shows a willingness to try different approaches to helping you succeed. I would highly recommend Matt as a guitar instructor. He is a terrific teacher and an excellent musician.

I came to Shane seeking guitar instruction after studying off and on for a few years and he definitely helped me get to the next level, both on the guitar, and on the mental side of my approach to practice. I was in a place where I knew most of the blues soloing shapes, but he did a great job of helping me see beyond the shapes and notes on paper and really feel the music that I am playing. He had accomplished what other teachers have struggled with - teaching guitar improvisation in a way that made me care and feel the exact emotion that the original guitarist had performed it in. His lessons were laid out in an organized matter and each lesson had a great blend of instruction and interaction. Most of the lesson time was learning through playing, which really helped me learn in an engaged way. I cannot recommend Shane enough.

I first contacted Reed in hopes of finding a guitarist that might be interested in accompanying me while I sang. I’m an adult who was never exposed to vocal or instrumental lessons growing up. Needless-to-say I was beyond green. I was focusing on singing, and it never crossed my mind to even try guitar. Reed’s love of music is contagious though and with his encouragement, we started formal guitar lessons. I warned him I didn’t want to dive into theory, read music, etc. I just wanted to be able to play current songs I could sing to. He tailored his lessons to my goals, but over time I realized he was not only teaching me those songs, he was teaching me the foundation of guitar and building up a chord & (I hate to admit it)- theory- library honestly without me even noticing. He is able to simplify the complex world of music and make it fun. If you’ve seen him play, you know he is an extremely versed guitarist, and despite his elite skill set he was more than patient, understanding and encouraging for a beginner like me. I have also seen him work with advanced guitarist, and he is beyond able to vary the curriculum to suit their needs. I highly recommend taking lessons with Reed no matter what level you’re at. I would have never imagined in less than a year of doing so, I would be hosting my own YouTube channel and writing original music. I have Reed to thank for that. I unfortunately don’t live in the same state as Reed anymore, but I still continue to do skype lessons with him as I want to continue to grow and improve, and well, he's the best! -Jessica Marie

I was excited about learning to play guitar, but how to begin was the problem. First, Denny called; his personality was warm and calming. He was very confident in his abilities, stated as a matter of fact, but does not major on that; he stayed focused on me, as a beginner, and how he could best serve my needs. From meeting me at the music store and providing guidance with my first guitar purchase through my first lesson, Denny provided gentle guidance and helped build my confidence. After the first lesson, I was able to play chords clearly and even had others to learn during my independent practice. I am very grateful I chose Denny as the professional to begin my new journey with. If you seriously want to learn how to play and enjoy your guitar experience, you owe it to yourself to get in contact with Denny.

I've been taking guitar lessons with Dan for a couple months now. I have been played piano since I can remember, and always wanted to learn how to play guitar, but never got around to it. I can say I'm definitely getting more comfortable and confident with it after a few lessons. I like that he doesn't just teach you basic chords, but also really gets into finger picking and intricate exercises as well. On top of being a great teacher, he's such a friendly and inspiring human being. I would highly recommend guitar lessons with him!

Hi! My name is Ben John McCall. I've been teaching guitar lessons going for 10 years now. Currently I've been teaching a class at my church called The Guitar Practice Hour. Guitarists of all levels come out and learn. It's a blast. If you would like one-on-one lessons, give me a call! I charge $20 an hour. I meet you where you are! Prices are negotiable. If you can't afford this, we can work something out, as I have a "no turn-down policy." I have many references if you wish to see them. I'm currently teaching what I call the 20-20-20 -- 20 minutes of theory (scales, chords, and definitions), 20 minutes of application on the guitar and finger placement, and 20 minutes of playing songs. All lessons are 1 hour. So what are you waiting for? Feel free to check out my Facebook account! Just type Ben-John McCall in the search bar, and I should be there!

My son has been taking guitar lessons with Khris Miller now for over a year. We have been very happy with Khris as a teacher. He makes learning fun which keeps our son interested. He encourages the kids to create their own music. Half the children at recital played their own compositions which I thought was wonderful. He's an accomplished guitarist; he's not only a good musician, but he's truly interested in teaching. I think he's a great teacher for kids!

About

Dan Voight is an experienced mandolin player, instructor, builder and repairman. He began teaching at 16, building mandolins at 17 and graduated with a music performance degree from The University of Michigan at 22. He now lives in Nashville where he continues to build custom mandolins, perform and teach music. Dan has been immersed in music since childhood and received his first guitar, an electric, at age 12. As a child, he listened mostly to rock and roll because that was what he was mostly exposed to. As Dan got older, artists, such as John Mayer and Leo Kottke, motivated him to play acoustic music and really study his instrument. He soon became interested in acoustic music, and then was attracted to the mandolin after hearing recordings by the group, Nickel Creek. In 2006, Dan was accepted into the University of Michigan Flint to study the mandolin performance. He graduated in 2011 with a bachelor of arts and science in music performance. Throughout college, Dan performed on scholarship in the University Chorale and the Chamber Singers vocal ensembles and sang in such venues as the Pentagon in Washington D.C. He also played in a duet with established classical guitarist, Mark Cherry, and performed works, such as Astor Piazzolla's Histoire Du Tango, J.S. Bach's Two Part Inventions for keyboard, as well as Domenico Scarlatti's keyboard sonatas. Having owned high-quality acoustic guitars, Dan felt that he knew something about good tone and knew that his first mandolin did not possess it. Unable to afford a high-quality mandolin, he began researching kits, thinking that he could build a better instrument than he was able to afford. He spoke with local luthier, Grady Jones, and Grady convinced him that it wouldn't be much harder to start from scratch than it would be to build from a kit. He apprenticed with Grady to build his first mandolin and has continued to produce high-quality instruments.

About

Guitar is my passion; teaching is my joy. I am a college student here in Nashville, and have had a love of music since the day I was born. I come from a very musically talented family, from which came the name "JamesGang". I sing, play piano, and write music, but most of all, I play the guitar. I am experienced in all forms of music reading: tablature, sheet music, and the Nashville number system. I am also very experienced in music theory. My guitar abilities include blues, rock, folk, country, Spanish guitar, flamenco, classical, and playing by ear. I am interested in teaching the guitar to all ages, and I am great with kids, as I have a brother whom I started teaching when he was 7. My teaching style is extremely flexible to the goals and requests of my students, and my prices are very low. I am willing to come to any location you request or to have the lessons done on my college campus. I am greatly honored to teach my passion to anyone who desires to learn, and I look forward to teaching you or your children the art of the acoustic guitar. Have a blessed day!

I have a unique way of teaching guitar, blending traditional guitar theory and the number system. You are going to see results quickly and complete your first lesson with a better understanding of the guitar. Many people have told me, "I tried and just don't have it!" The good news is... it's the same for everyone. Everyone suffers the initial two to four weeks of difficulty in training their hands to play the guitar. You just have to work through the rough beginning stages. The guitar players you admire struggled at some point. But, were too stubborn to give up. I charge $20 for a one-hour lesson.

My name is Joshua Foster. I have been a private music instructor for 15 years. I attended American University, where I received a bachelor of arts degree with concentration on piano performance, jazz guitar performance, and composition. (Yes, I was extremely busy then.) I structure my lessons differently. I believe that music wouldn't be in my life if my amazing teachers had not made it fun. It was hard work, but I consistently felt that I was having a good time. I have adopted that, and am always going to keep it as a part of my teaching style. I can drive to your home for the lessons. No more having to fight the traffic to get your young student to a studio for a lesson. I am going to fight the traffic for you. I teach primarily in the Brentwood, Belle Meade, and Green Hills areas, all near Nashville, TN. Please e-mail me for more information about lessons for your son or daughter. No one is too young or old to start a relationship with music!
