How much does a licensed electrician cost per hour?

An electrician’s average hourly rate is $75, but this price can range from $45-$120, depending on the complexity of the job and the materials needed. The total cost will also vary depending on how long your job takes and if the electrician charges for travel time.

Your location may also be a factor in determining the hourly rate of performing electrical work on your home. To get an accurate estimate of how much electrical work will cost you, contact the best electricians near you to receive free quotes.

What do I need an electrician for?

Electricians can help with a variety of electricity-related jobs around your home. If you have a new home, they can install new wiring throughout. Or if you have an old home, they can help with wiring repair.

If your lights keep flickering, circuit breakers seem to be faulty, or outlets don’t have any power, electricians can assist in sorting out the problem. Your house is full of electrical circuits, wiring and sockets that may need repair or updating. These tasks can be safely completed by electricians in your area.

Do electricians do free estimates?

Go online to find the best electricians near you. After researching and finding a few pros who seem qualified for your job, go ahead and request a quote to find out how much those electricians will charge you.

How do I hire an electrician?

Go online to find a list of the best electricians in your area. View each individual electrician’s profile and learn more about their services and expertise. Then, read reviews from satisfied customers as well as any issues they may have encountered. This will help you find one with the right experience to work safely in your home.

You should also spend some time researching what qualifications and credentials they have. You might find information about their license on their profile, or you might need to check your local and state government’s website to verify their license.

Once you’ve done a bit of research, ask to receive free estimates from several electricians in your area. Ultimately, hire the most qualified electrician who can complete your project at a reasonable price.

What’s the best way to set up a consultation or an appointment with an electrician during the COVID-19 pandemic?

To set up an appointment or consultation with an electrician during the COVID-19 pandemic, ensure that you are performing as much of the process digitally as possible. The best way to begin is by conducting an online search for local electricians. Ask if they can perform consultations over a phone or video call to comply with social distancing mandates. You should also discuss a strategy for how to complete the project during social distancing or whether the project should be completed once the pandemic has ended.

Is it worth it to hire an electrician?

Yes, it's usually worth it to hire an electrician instead of doing the work yourself.

Electrical work can be very dangerous. The pros spend many years working and studying before they become licensed and certified. That knowledge and training can help them work safely and perform the job without harming themselves or your home.

Even a small wiring repair job can be unsafe if not done correctly. Hiring someone that has specialized training on how to do each specific job is the safest choice.

What questions should I ask an electrician?

Here are a few questions you should ask any electrician you’re considering hiring:

  • Are you licensed or certified? A professional electrician should have this information ready and up to date.
  • Do you have any references? Ask for references to learn about their work history from previous customers. You may be able to look online at reviews, but it’s also good to speak to someone to find out their experience with this electrician.
  • What types of services do you offer? Whether you need repairs or installation services, make sure the electrician can perform the work you need.
  • How long will the job take? This will help you set expectations and rearrange your schedule (if needed).
  • Can you send me free estimates? Request a job quote or estimate. This will help with comparing different electricians. The numbers may vary, but be sure to factor in the experience of each person, as well as the scope of electrical work you’re asking about.

How can I find out if an electrician is considered an essential COVID-19 service provider?

Guidelines are available from both local and federal government agencies to clarify which services qualify as essential during the COVID-19 pandemic. To determine whether an electrician is considered an essential service provider in your area, check your city or state’s government websites.

For federal guidelines, consult CISA’s Identifying Critical Infrastructure During COVID-19 page, which outlines 16 critical infrastructure sectors. But not that some, not all, jurisdictions follow CISA’s definitions of critical infrastructure.

Are there ways to be safe if I hire an electrician when social distancing?

If you decide to hire an electrician, choose virtual platforms for consultations like calling or video chats. Avoid any physical contact with the electrician, wave instead of shaking hands, stay 6 feet away, sanitize shared surfaces and use digital payment apps instead of cash.

Can I use digital payments to pay for electrical and wiring repair?

These days, many electricians will accept digital payments for electrical work and wiring repair instead of traditional cash or check. The COVID-19 pandemic has helped speed up the adoption of platforms like PayPal, Zelle, Square Cash, Venmo, Google Pay and others as a means of complying with social distancing guidelines.

As you search for electricians online, ask whether they’ll accept digital payment and set up a strategy for staying safe.

Extremely unprofessional, shoddy and dangerous electrician. This electrician did some work at my home and I later found faults in a lot of the work performed eg faulty wiring (wires touching in circuits that should not be) that tripped my breakers, switches that did not work, fixtures that were not aligned and crooked etc. But instead of fixing his mistakes that electrician simply did not respond after taking payment leaving behind dangerous work that another electrician had to fix. Very poor quality of work and very unprofessional.

Luis is now my electrician anytime I need him. He’s very professional, friendly and provides quality service at a very reasonable price. Don’t let these other high rating (high priced) electricians over shadow Luis. I promise, you will be satisfied. Thank you Luis!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I would give zero stars if I could. These guys came to replace a tripped plug in my 110v hot tub. They were adamant the tub was wired wrong from the factory and that it needed 220v. Assuming they are skilled in their trade, I trusted they knew what they were doing. Unfortunately, this project was way out of their league. In the process of “fixing” my hot tub, it caught on FIRE and they told me “that’s what happens when you buy a used hot tub” this was straight from the factory and I tripped the plug bc I plugged it into an outlet with other appliances on it. So, I was already told by milestone electric, this is what I’m fact had happened, when they installed my dedicated plug for the tub. The only reason I hired these guys is because they were a lower bid for what should’ve been a simple cord and plug swap. Still they stated it didn’t matter what milestone said, and again told me the only way to fix it was to convert to 220v. So after frying my entire system they had the nerve to ask for payment for their services. I’m not sure how most electricians conduct business but I have pics of their 220v wiring they installed that still smells of fire, complete with exposed wires wrapped in electrical tape….. I asked for his master electrician and Insurance information, and have yet to receive. The pics clearly speak for themselves. No grounding or insulation in the box, metal on metal and wiring and the that electrical tape job….🤌🏻 This is costing almost the price I paid for the spa to fix. They know they caught it on fire and as soon as they put it out they were packing up. There is no doubt in my mind these guys will inadvertently cause harm or worse to customers, hire at your own risk and have a legal team at your disposal, you will more than likely need it.

Talk about Professionalism? Punctuality? Value? Quality of work? Try more.... yep... that’s what these guys are all about!!!!!! Hazen the master electrician is all of that plus more... a super duper nice but yet professional man along with his team... they came in 10 min earlier than scheduled and waited until it was appointment time before asking if they can come in. While waiting, they got their equipment set up outside since we had work done outside. NO task was big or small for these guys... they do it all... My family and I felt safe around Hazen and his team like a family member was working on our electrical needs... we had a breaker switch panel moved from inside house in closet (80’s house) to outside along a lot of chandeliers, fans/lights fixtures plus dimmers installed!!!! And they worked it all non stop all day.... I can’t even thank Hazen and his team enough for showing us what it’s like to work with a PRO like them. Thank you... thank you and thank you for everything. So glad we found Electrical solutions experts and plan not only to use them exclusively moving forward but also tell all our neighbors, friends and family to do the same.
