Kylah offers a very comfortable environment which is important for nervous people like myself. She was able to plan out our goals, was very flexible with listening to bands I wanted to sing along with for practice, and described how the body is effected when you sing a certain way or how your voice will sound when you do certain things to your body. That extra knowledge is vital if you want to learn to stay healthy and perform strong. Overall, the lesson went very well and we plan to meet again a week from now. Thanks Kylah!

Great singer, great teacher. Kylah possesses considerable knowledge of vocal technique and musicianship. She maintains this without losing touch with the primary propose of music; to enjoy the music itself. One can not ask for more when searching for a vocal teacher.

A great experience!!! I learned a lot about my voice and what it can do, from the Nine Muses Studio!! I highly recommend for singers and voice over actors. I will be returning for sure.

I had an introductory voice lesson with Laura last week, and it left me more excited than ever to delve deeper into understanding my voice and body as an instrument. Even after one hour, I felt like I was given foundational building blocks to a maintaining a healthy voice and vocal practice that I will use always. I am a performing musician, singing in two Austin bands, and I am a preschool teacher, so I use my voice a lot. Like, really really a lot. I sought out vocal lessons as a way to protect myself from injuring this expressive outlet I rely on, and to feel more comfortable and confident in my vocal performances. I understand a lot about my voice but I had never had lessons, and I could tell from the strain I was left with after shows or a busy week at work that I was at an impasse. Laura was recommended to me by a friend, and we set up our lesson the following week. My first vocal lesson ever! Laura was so warm and supportive. I was nervous but she was very reassuring. I felt comfortable working with her and found that she communicated complicated or specific ideas in a way that was accessible and immediately applicable to posture, breathing, and vocalization. I left feeling thrilled that I had found her and really excited to have her as a guide to pushing the boundaries of my vocal expression. I am so happy we made that connection. I've been singing all week, practicing what she gave me, and cannot wait for my next lesson.

At 41, I decided it was time to finally find out if I could learn to sing. I'm a guitar player that always wanted to sing, but never learned. Laura evaluated me after listening to me play a couple of songs. It was great. She basically told me that I had the raw material necessary to sing. What a boost! I had always worried about pitch. When someone that has studied voice at Berklee says your pitch is fine - how much easier it is to sing without worry! The voice is still a work in progress, but I know that I will continue to progress with Laura's guidance. Highly recommended.

I am a professional musician here in Austin, and I took a lesson with Laura to expand my skills as a singer. I walked away from our lesson with a much more confident and surer understanding of how to better sing in tune, with good tone, and with confidence. She was patient and answered all of my questions without pretense, and made me feel more confident about my own abilities. I'm really looking forward to taking more lessons with Laura!

I hired Vinyl Flashback to play at my anniversary party for my business. They were awesome and really drew in the crowd! Can’t tell the difference if you’re listening to a cover band or The Stones... I’m a huge fan and will definitely follow their calendar! Worth the $$$$$

We hired Roxy Roca for our wedding AND wedding reception. The band members were all very professional, well-dresses, on time, and actually were very helpful when we had our own sound problems. They saved my wedding!!!! We love you ROXY ROCA!

We can only rave at how great this little band was at my daughter's wedding last May in Austin. David does a great job of communicating and was very flexible with a number of special requests which helped to make it such a great day. They came early, and stayed late, even helping us to pick up afterwards. The music is very precise and FUN!!! Steel Betty played quiet prayerful tunes during the ceremony, and gradually amped up the energy as the festivities followed. Highly recommended! Stephen N.

Steel Betty is the best. We booked them for our wedding in October. From the moment I reached out to Dave, he was friendly, helpful, and flexible. Their music is an appealing mixture of folk and bluegrass, and was the perfect accompaniment to our cocktail hour. They even incorporated a few of our favorite songs into the set. Needless to say, they were a major highlight of our wedding. I would book them again in a heartbeat.

Paul taught piano, guitar, and band classes for our music school for three years before leaving for Austin. He is an excellent teacher and outstanding musician and songwriter. We recommend him highly and miss having him at our school.

Gil del Bosque is a skillful teacher and diagnostician with both feet on real-world ground. Gil is a saxophonist performing in the Austin area, which helps keep the focus on *creating the music and sound* the student is seeking. Yes the "academic" information is there too, but the focus is creating the sound and music you want to make. In the first lesson Gil pinpointed critical embouchure issues that made a remarkable change in my practice that week. In each of the next 2 lessons (I've had 3 so far) Gil has seen and corrected issues which made noticeable improvements each time for the week's practice. Quality of sound is paramount to me, and I'm hearing improvements weekly. Realistic steps forward. I'd especially like to mention how flexible and reality-based our working lessons are. There are no achievement expectations - that is, Gil listens to where you are *now* and works from there. It's irrelevant whether it took 2-3 hours of practice a day or 20 minutes every other day to get there -- you are where you are. [Put another way, no wasted time on reviewing your practice schedule; just get on with the next thing.] Assignments may not sound fun or glamorous, but they *are* effective and therefore rewarding because I'm making progress. Gil works easily with the excited kid in me who (finally) has a new tenor sax while keeping the discussion on an adult level. If you want to play music and think you're too old or it has been too long since you last took a look at notes on a staff, I say go with Gil. My last ("real") music lesson was 51 years ago, and my last music class was in 6th grade (almost 50 years ago, when we played soprano recorders for a few weeks). Even so, I'm making progress in creating good sound on my tenor sax.

Mr. Del Bosque was a very good teacher for the three years I had him as my private lessons teacher. He will teach you all you need to know to be a successful saxophonist. He will teach you the fundementals like scales, tonal excerises, arpeggios, etc. When I was in middle school, I made the TMEA All Region Band with his critique and help. But I feel that Mr. Del Bosque could've taught at a faster pace because the pace felt slow to me, but that's just my preference. It really depends on the person. Overall, Mr. Del Bosque was a great teacher and will be perfect for anyone who's looking to start to play the saxophone or already has been playing, but is looking for professional help.

My son has been receiving private saxophone lessons from Gil for over 3 years. Gil has helped my son tremendously. Gil is wonderful to work with....flexible and accomodating, knowledgable and talented. His interaction with students is respectful and kind and communicates his expectations clearly. I highly recommend Gil.

Loved them! I was hesitant to use a full band or a DJ but "Chido Machine" was like both in one. He did a DJ set with live drums, it was all that we needed to have a great time with a wide variety of genres but a live music vibe!

About

I'm Sherah, the writer and lead singer for The Fine Souls. My smokey, jazz-inflected vocal croons against a backdrop of guitar, upright bass and jazz drum kit. I specialize in writing beautiful, danceable love songs, and I write from a wide range of Roots genres: folk, vocal and Louisiana jazz, blues, soul, pop and early R&B, so the music never gets boring or repetitious. My melodies are memorable, and the lyrics are vivid, poetic, and romantic, reflecting all the various moods of love. I've even written a song about a couple who's watching the sunset, enjoying the memories of their wedding earlier in the day! We play primarily our own love songs, but we will also learn and play up to 8 of your choice of cover songs, especially if you have particular songs in mind for the first dance, the garter and bouquet toss, or other special moments. Bonus item: For an additional fee, I will write a song for you that's based on your personal love story, and we will record it as a single to give to your guests. We'll also perform this song as the first dance! My musicians are among the very best that Austin has to offer, and we have been or are currently a part of other touring bands. We have performed at various wine bars, coffee shops and restaurants around town, as well as at the Hyatt, the Austin airport on the Ray Benson Stage, and at the Continental Club Gallery. Please visit my Facebook page Sherah & The Fine Souls to see what we're up to!

We hired the Divas and Cavaliers for our wedding in November, 2015. Johnny Bode and the band were simply outstanding. The songs were well played, the lead singer is gifted, and the guests were dancing up a storm from the very beginning until the very end of the night. I still hear from friends and family just how much they loved the band. Johnny Bode is easy to work with and clearly enjoys his work. Running up to the wedding, Johnny, my wife and I, came up with a couple of phenomenal playlists that truly incorporated his knowledge of what gets folks out on the dance floor and our taste in music. In addition, he worked with us creating a very special first dance that went off flawlessly and is now a very special and tender memory. Enjoy, you can't lose.
