Ben was great to work with! We hired him to film a corporate instructional video for a tech product. Ben was quick to answer questions we had before signing the contract and flexible with our needs. During filming he was professional, patient, friendly, communicative, attentive to detail, and overall very pleasant to work with. He was also kind enough to give us pointers and advice on editing the footage since we are doing it ourselves. I would highly recommend working with him, and hope we can work together again in the future.

I trusted Errich (with extreme gratefulness) to shoot my latest film project. I'm beyond satisfied with the results of his work. Besides being DP on film projects, Errich has an impressive portfolio of photography. Need headshots? He's your guy. Need production shots of your latest play? He's your guy. Many theatres have been lucky to have him around. I will work with him again, anytime.

I really enjoyed working with Kevin on my 4 song project. He helped me capture the passion in my music. He is very professional, knowledgable, patient, and an excellent composer. Kevin's turnaround time in producing my music was timely. I asked Kevin to collaborate with me on a film project and I am really stoked about the opportunity to learn from him. I highly recommend Kevin to enhance your music and bring it to the next level. His rates are great and money well worth spent for me. Review by NoizeFilter Music

Marc did a great job on our video project. He filmed in multiple formats including some drone work and it all looked excellent. The project changed quite a bit from our initial request and he was very flexible and responsive to our changes.

We had a great experience with Affective Video. Norris was very nice, accommodating, and easy to work with. We are pleased with out pictures and are so happy to have such a special day caught on film. It was so helpful that Nortis had the ability to shoot both indoors and out. He was so patient with out crazy large group with tons of kids. We got all our pictures back very quickly.

Brooke is simply the best! After finding her on thumbtack my sister made the best decision of having her wedding photographs shot by Brooke. She recently shot my engagement photos and we could not be more pleased. Not only is Brooke kind and sweet; she is also professional, punctual, a great communicator and extremely talented. She was able to get a second photographer, which I wanted for part of my wedding and she even recommended a great videographer. I cannot wait for my second round of pictures! I'll be sure to post a follow up review. :)

I have seen superb photography work for weddings and many special events. Also, excellent graphic designs and cinematography work with music videos, music design covers, short film works and wedding videos. In addition, this group has experience with web development for small businesses, organizations, and events. They are easy to work with, professional and timely with finished products. I highly recommend them. P. Williams

Tim and Peter were AHHHHMAAAAZING! I needed to find a Videographer and fast. Tim was quick to respond to my SOS for our event and was super helpful, not to mention patient with the multiple changes in decisions. Peter did an incredible job in listening to what our needs were and capturing the moments we wanted. He was always one step ahead. I couldn't have asked for a group of people to capture our event. I would highly recommend hiring these guys for any event you do.Great job El Tiburon Productions! Keep up the awesome work!

Highly recommended!! Professional, friendly, and efficient. Our film festival has hired Brian for the last 3 years to handle all of our editing needs – assembling all of the screenings we present (over 4 days), creating bumpers and promo videos – he has been excellent. He is super knowledgeable about ALL things video production/editing and works quickly, with everything on time. As a film festival, we can't risk any technical mishaps...AND I am happy to say we have not had a single issue!

Martin Wennerstrom with Video 1 Unit in Austin, Tx provided me with a phenomenal, first class video experience for my talk in San Antonio. He showed up when promised and made sure everything went off without a hitch. We had a two camera set up. I had my video two days later to review and send back to him for edits. I love what I have seen so far. I highly recommend Martin and Video 1 Unit and have already referred him to a potential new client.

I've worked with Paul Dubiel on a number of occasions, on my film sets. His working knowledge, professional and friendly attitude, and talent shine every time I have him on a film shoot. Every time I need to put together a film crew, he goes at the top of my list, for the core team. He is as trustworthy and committed as they get, and I have no reservations about recommending him.

Anthony is an amazing videographer and we are so happy he could shoot our wedding! I was not having luck finding someone who had the style of video that I wanted in my budget until on my 2nd round of thumbtack searching when Anthony reached out to me. His work was beautiful and he also offered drone photography which I really wanted. He was very responsive and answered any questions I had leading up to the wedding and once we got our videos. On the day of our wedding, Anthony was on time, possibly even early because I was late lol, and got the drone footage while he waited on us to arrive. He was professional and polite during the entire day. Anthony was like a ninja, he got so many shots during the day and half the time I didn't even know he was there. It took 3 months to get our 2 videos back, a five minute highlight film and a 46 minute feature video of all our vows and toasts. The wedding was shot with multiple camera angles and was excellent quality. Anthony is truly talented and a pleasure to work with! He definitely made our wedding video dreams come true and we will cherish them forever!

Jake did such a wonderful job videoing our wedding! He was very professional, had great communication, came up with cool/fresh ideas and created the perfect wedding video for us. He captured all of the moments we will look back on and cherish for the rest of our lives. I would, without a doubt, recommend Jake to anyone I know who is getting married or has a special event coming up in their lives. He was terrific! I was more laid back and let him do his thing without giving much direction. He did so in a very professional, and non-obtrusive way. He had many cute and clever ideas that I would not have considered without his help, to be honest I barely noticed him being there. My husband, having photography experience, had lots of ideas and suggestions which Jake was totally open too, and they totally nailed it. He filmed everything we were hoping he would capture and much more. The real magic though, is the video editing. As you can see from ours, it’s literally cinematic quality and he paired it with cool modern music, as well as our first dance song and Copperhead Road (one of my husbands favorites).

Working with Brent and Amanda at Dreamtown Creative is a pleasure, because they are committed to doing great work. When we filmed testimonial interviews for Texan Allergy and Sinus Clinic, they went the extra mile, even though last minute changes in scheduling occurred. I can't wait to work with them again.

Dallas went above and beyond for our conference event. He was a consummate professional, was able to work under tight deadlines (we needed unedited photos and b-roll after each day to create a slideshow for the following day), and incredibly collaborative. He worked with us to define our goals and needs for the event and then worked tirelessly to meet them. Plus, he was a joy to have at our conference! Would recommend to any organization looking for a dependable, creative event photographer.

Filmechanix is the true definition of a business partner. They spent the time and energy getting to know our business so that they could tailor their services to meet our needs perfectly. I have never been surprised by the filming timeline, the extend of the project, the cost of the project, or the final product. I always receive upfront and honest communication for each project. I have used Filmechanix for ongoing/recurring work for many, many years and each and every time Brandon and Brad have delivered beyond my expectations. They took me from an inexperienced, inefficient person who started making videos by default to an organized, knowledgeable professional. I received coaching, recommendations and support to deliver high quality videos that represent our brand at the highest levels. I can't say enough great things about this team.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
