    Andrea's Spanish/English tutoring

    (4 reviews)

I have been tutoring/teaching Spanish and ESL/English to students since 2000. I have worked with a variety of clients (all ages, backgrounds and career fields). I specialize in medical and legal vocabulary (I am a certified translator and interpreter with emphasis on legal and medical). Therefore, if you are in the police/fire/EMT/medical careers, I absolutely love teaching those areas. I have a huge passion for working with students who have special needs as well. I am a very patient person and get along with all personality types. Spanish is my passion, and I want nothing more than to help students with their classes and help my clients become fluent!

  • Kelsey Shipman, Writer & Teacher

**WRITING/EDITING LESSONS** : Do you think you are a "bad writer"? Is picking up a book the last thing you want to do for fun? Well, as a professional educator with over 7 years of classroom experience, trust me when I say, you are not alone! So many students enter my classroom dreading the blank page. For years, people have told them they are bad writers, bad readers, and bad students. This is why my first job as a writing teacher is instilling confidence. The vast majority of my students are far better writers than they think and have intelligent things to say about worldly issues. Pointing out what students do well is just as helpful as pointing out what they need to work on, but so many instructors forget this. My goal is to break down writing into manageable parts -- thesis statements, organization, supportive evidence, and grammar -- and provide specific tools to master any and all writing assignments. I specialize in writing of all kinds including creative, academic, technical, research, science, and business. I am also thoroughly versed in world literature, reading comprehension, and academic research. **SPANISH LESSONS** : I am also excited to start offering private Spanish Lessons! I am a fluent speaker of the language, and currently teach Spanish at Austin Language Learning School near the UT campus. I've lived abroad in Bolivia and Mexico, and published a book of poetry in Spanish in 2007. I love teaching grammar, idioms, literature, and the culture of Spanish-speaking countries. It is a beautiful language, and I would love to help you improve your fluency! Our lessons can be done in your home (or a mutually convenient location) on a one-on- one basis. That means you will receive individualized attention from a working Master Teacher and we will focus on the content most useful to you. Want to be able to speak to colleagues in a particular field? Want to get around a foreign country? I design lessons specifically for you and am always open to input. Most importantly, I love what I do! **RESUME BUILDING** : In my sessions, we meet at a mutually-agreed upon public place and we revise your resume and cover letters together. This is important so that I can asked you in detail about your work experience, career goals, and specific skills. This is crucial when it is "Interview Time" as you will need to feel comfortable talking about yourself in the way you are represented in your application documents. We will also go through some possible formats, and together we choose "the feel" that is right for you. You will also learn how to edit resumes/cover letters on your own so that you can make adjustments as necessary. We always have a good time! And, you will leave with a stronger skill base. I love watching students grow! It brings me profound satisfaction to watch a new student start out unsure of themselves and become clear, confident and capable. I particularly enjoy working with young adults on a project -- such as an essay, novel, or script -- and helping them bring their vision to fruition.

Andrea's Spanish/English tutoring

(4 reviews)

I have been tutoring and teaching Spanish and ESL since 2000. My last job was with the state as a Spanish medical translator, and although I was grateful for the job, I was unhappy being locked up in a cubicle under fluorescent lights trying to decipher doctor's handwriting! I decided to take the leap of faith and quit the job to start my own teaching and tutoring business.

Andrea Clark provides clients with language tutoring specifically in Spanish. She admits that the start was overwhelming yet challenging because she has to learn the ropes of running her own business. Her students vary from the young to the old. Most of them are either home-schooled kids or high school to university students or people seeking language learning.

The most effective strategy to keep my clients satisfied and happy is to be flexible with my scheduling and also meeting at a location that is convenient for both of us, also, the fact that I tailor the sessions to meet the individual needs of each person. Not everyone learns the same so I adapt to the individual.

Among her many students, her most memorable one was a boy he helped with 3 years ago. He had a learning disability and other physical pain issues. When he started, his Spanish was around Bs and Cs, but after working with Andrea Clark, he improved to Bs and As. This reassured Alexander that what she is doing is worthwhile.

Learn Spanish from a patient, flexible, and skillful tutor just like Andrea Clark.
