We had Daniel clean 1200+ sqft of floor tile and grout and apply sealer. He was very accommodating on a very short notice and stayed late. A very pleasant experience and we would recommend DB to anyone.

Cleaner contacted me immediately and arranged for a quick pick up of the rug. I asked for an estimate to clean tile and they sent out an estimator at the same time they picked up the rug. It was ready when promised and delivered swiftly. Great service. Rug looks great. Will use them again.

After being extremely disappointed in the drywall and painting work done by a previous contractor, I hired Isaac Delcid to redo the previous contractor's work and then continued to use him on one project after another. Not only did he make the walls that were floated and painted by the prior contractor perfectly smooth, he astounded everyone working on my renovation project by being able to float an extremely textured room and ceiling to a perfectly smooth finish. On a Sunday, He even provided free examples of how the finished wall would look because I had a hard time believing it could be floated smooth. Later, his tile expert installed some challenging tiles in a bathroom at no charge to demonstrate that these tiles could also be installed with a perfectly smooth surface. I was amazed enough to have Isaac Delcid's crew rip out all of the tiles in three other bathrooms that were poorly done by a previous contractor and reinstall them perfectly. Well worth the money. Isaac Delcid is an extremely good communicator, generates professional proposals, is able to do the work quickly and efficiently, and never fails to impress me. I have had at least nine contractors on this project and Isaac Delcid is definitely the best in the business. I almost regret writing this positive review, because I want to keep him for my own projects only!

When Chris came by to look at our tile he took his time explaining his cleaning process. He was quick to get his bid back, which was greatly appreciated! He arrived on time, set up and went to work. Five hours later (for 1400 sq Ft) he was done and the floors look as amazing as when they were installed. I felt his price was reasonable and will use him again. I highly recommend him, as he made sure I knew all of the project details and he made sure I was satisfied with the work he had done before he left.

There is always room for improvement, so no 5 stars. Freddy did a good job cleaning our upholstered furniture and our tile floors. He was courteous and arrived on time. I have already recommended Busy Bee to one other person.

It was a simple floor cleaning. It was a new construction vinyl tile floor. The contractor warned about using high water or cleaning products. Jose was very knowledgable and personable. Also his pricing was more than competitive. I will reuse and recommended his services.

I needed the tile in my kitchen cut to fit the new stovetop that my home warranty company replaced my old one with. The only problem was the new grills were slightly larger than the 40 year old ones and the warranty company did not cover the tile cutting. After going to Home Depot and getting no results, I remembered using Thumbtack for other projects. Saul was the first to respond within 10 minutes and the only one to respond for 2 days. I sent him pictures, he responded with a reasonable quote, arrived promptly and did a wonderful job. I have already referred him to someone else and he will definitely be my tile guy!

He did not complete work but was paid in full. He has made promises for weeks to return but has not. Not one single project was completed. He totally took advantage of my elderly mom who has stage 4 liver disease. This grout is a total mess and will now have to be completely taken out and replaced. He presented himself as a concerned Christian man. Wow.

Did great work and price was honest and reasonable. They did the tile work for the dinning room floor, bathroom floor, and bathtub surround. In addition, they replaced the bathroom vanity, painted the kitchen cabinets, and applied epoxy to the kitchen's laminate counter. Levi was responsive to my texts and phone calls, and didn't have any problem with the additional requests made once construction started.

Wonderful results! I have a long list of repairs needed, now I found someone that I can rehire! Silvestre is here with baseboards and quarter round due to a laundry overfill, (a 19 yr old part wore-out). my flood occurred the Saturday before the Houston Flood (4-18-2016) and I was in panic for a true carpenter -- to beat the rush. my house does not have a single right angle corner ( old homes in a MUD just don't get fine details) so, all the sheetrock is wacky and Silvestre did an impressive job with getting the corners to look "right". I put out the request on a Thursday, and Silvestre was available for the next day; beautiful work was completed before 5 on Friday. The flood restoration co that is "asthma friendly" and wears yellow and black (local Webster office) was a nightmare! and then, the washer part was not "defective". The baseboards from Brothers Construction Co were simple and stress-free, just how business should be. Silvestre Chavez is amazing, I wish I found him when we bought our home in 1992. I have hired so many people for almost every kind of job and I don't recall the last time I was this happy with quality workmanship. a few years ago I got a really poor exterior paint job, I so truly WISH I had known Silvestre. I have previously had two different BIG NAME companies install tile, and unhappy with both finished rooms... that I get to live with ... (one the salesman did not discuss lay-out pattern-down a long hallway; and, the second one had half of the order with (Mohawk) cosmetic flaws,(master closets were empty) as well as did not dry fit for approval on room center... so they pulled up wet tile ... and I also wish the majority of their cosmetic tile issue was all in the closets. I have learned so much. My new breakfast and laundry baseboards look great! and if we do not relocate in the next 24 months... and do get to stay.... guess who get my kitchen floor and cabinet work... thank you, Brothers Construction Company for such wonderful, fast and professional service. Michelle Frank

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.
