Sarah visited our cats 10 times when we went on extended vacation. She was great with our pets and kept us informed. She provided pictures at each visit, a report, and we were notified each time she arrived and departed. She made sure they were fed, had water, cleaned their litter-boxes, vacuumed their area, and brought in the occasional UPS box. I will use the service again (YHPC) and have already requested Sarah for my next trip out of town. YHPC is professional and their pet care professionals are exceptional.

Due to the advanced age of my 16 year old ShihTzu and her severe case of separation anxiety, coupled with my time restrictions, I decided to use a mobile grooming service for "Hannah's" long overdue needs. I had the good fortune to find "Tammi" who "went out of her way" to accommodate our schedule and the service she provided us was excellent."Tammi" is exceptionally compassionate, conscientious and professional and I would "go out of my way" to recommend her to anyone seeking a superior, highly qualified pet groomer.

Maury has been amazing. He has worked with me through a very stressful time and been very patient with both me and my dog. His facilities are excellent. I couldn't have asked for a better trainer. Even though my dog had to isolated because of aggression issues, he actually seems like he misses his boarding and Maury! His pricing is extremely fair as well. Aside from the training, I now know I can leave town and board my pets with someone that not only cares about my pets, but is giving them much needed training. I have already recommended him to my family and a few friends. I also feel very comfortable having private sessions with my dog in my home. He has a great energy that both animals and people can sense immediately.

Our experience with Andrea Rutledge was tremendously positive from beginning to end. She provided professional, attentive care for our furry friend for three days while we were traveling. She attended to every detail of Wally's care, but also took care of household items such as putting out the trash, bringing in the mail, and watering plants. She texted us a message and photo after every visit, and she even left a framed photo of Wally upon our return. Would highly recommend her to take care of your pet!

RCG Peachy Clean completely changed the way my house was making me feel. Being a single mother of two, going to school at nights, and working... means I don't have a ton of time to clean somethings that I should. This company helped me to get my house back in order and keep it that way still. Rachel, Claudia, and Carlos are all lovely people and hard workers that listen to what you have to say and remember how you want something. They all go above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of. I don't think my busy little family of three could survive without their services. So call them up, enjoy their services and spread the word!

Arrived on time and took wonderful care of my dog. The price was reasonable, and you can tell they really put value in their work. I haven't seen her cut this well in a long time. If you're looking for a mobile pet groomer, this is definitely the one to use. Thanks!

We were very happy with the service and care provided by Lynette of Net's Happy Pets. She made a home visit with us beforehand to meet our puppy and discuss our needs. She also communicated with us before and during her pet visits. Plan to use her again.

It is very difficult to find a skilled, competent pet sitter for four senior cats. The oldest one requires on-going medical care. Debra was perfect. She has the skills and knowledge. She communicated with me on an on-going basis to keep me updated about their eating and typical lack of friendliness with strangers. My oldest received her required meds according to the instructions. They did like her in their own aloof ways! I felt relieved when I knew a competent person was caring for my pets while I was away. Debra has the background, knowledge and skills to care for pets which require special care. I will definitely contact Debra for future pet sitting of my beloved cats.

This past week Tami watched my pitbull and my dachshund. I was so impressed with the work she did! It was last minute and she fit me into her busy schedule to do visits at my house while i was out of town. My pit was recently injured and Tami took care of all the medical needs he needed while i was away! She spent quality time with them. I cant thank her enough for everything she did! I hoghly recommend her to anyone looking for pet care!

Prestigious Pets about their dog walking service, I knew this was the kind of company I was going to do business with. My experience with every aspect of Prestigious Pets, from the care they give to my little dog pico, the communication to me about their walks with him and their expertise when I have questions and issues about my dog has been extraordinary and invaluable to me. I have recommended Prestigious Pets to friends who are now using their service. Thank you, Prestigious Pets for all you've done for me and my dog, Pico and for the peace of mind you allow me while I'm away from my apartment at work. Kalle Has been very helpful to me when I have had questions about Pico.

Gail took care of our dog and house for 8 nights while we were out of country. This was a big leap of faith for us - new sitter for our dog, an unknown person staying in our home. But once we read her reviews and met her in person, we had confidence in our decision. Gail was terrific and our dog fell in love with the attention, walks and massages Gail provided. And we appreciated the daily contact and updates Gail gave us. I've never had that degree of peace of mind while away. Gail returned to our house a few days after our return to pick up an item and our dog was so excited to see her again. You shouldn't hesitate to hire Gail.

I highly recommend Adreia for your pet and house sitting needs. She recently stayed in our home can cared for our 2 Cat Boys. We set up a meet and greet so she could meet our Boys and we could show her around the house. One of our cats needs to be dry pilled daily and some times had anxiety issues. It was a bonus that Adreia is a Vet Tech and understood his medications! During her stay she sent us photo updates daily. I returned home to a neat and tidy home and two happy cats!

My experience with Bill of Wagmaster far exceeded my expectations! I've used several resources in the past when I've needed pet care for my two wild and crazy pups and I can honestly say that none of those came with the peace of mind and affordability of service that Bill delivered. First off, he was able to accommodate me on a moments notice when my pet care plans fell through. Over the week I was gone I knew my babies were being loved, fed, and properly excercised. He sent me adorable pictures and an update each time he was with them which put me at ease. I trusted Bill inside my home and he even made himself available to care for other household tasks. I most definitely will use his services again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

  • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
  • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
  • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
  • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
  • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
  • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.
