Prompt timing, removed spots very well. A couple of extra wet spots & residue on tile floor from hoses that prevented a five star rating. Would use again.

Blast & his team were awesome! He performed numerous jobs for me (tile/floor laminate installation, wall repair, painting, etc...) He continuously provided feedback & offered his expert opinion on several projects....which turned out fantastic. He had no problem deviating from what was initially agreed upon just to please his customer. You definitely won't go wrong choosing his services.

Texas Wood Flooring installed about 825 Sqr Ft of Engineered Wood Floor in my Home in Cinco Ranch. On the first day,the team quickly cleaned and leveled the floor prior to the wood floor installation. On installation day, there were three wood floor workers that expeditiously tackled the wood floor installation. What sets Texas Wood Flooring apart from the rest, was when I had a concern with the repairs on the stairs, they worked very hard to make sure the job was 100% correct and I was satisfied. Super appreciated & I've hired them for an additional phase of work.

It was a pleasure doing business with Will. After contacting Will, he worked around my busy schedule to come by and take a look at what I needed done. He had samples in his car which helped us get an idea of the colors that looked good. He advised us to go take a look all the options at his vendors location, which we did and found another color which we liked more than the samples Will had with him. After picking a color, Will gave us a turnkey price with materials+labor which was the BEST price we found for pre-fab granite. After putting down a deposit, we picked a date and Will sent his installers to come do the installation. We wanted to pick our own slab, knowing the variations in color, but unfortunately the installers got their before we did and picked up the slab. Fortunately they picked a beautiful piece, so stuck with it. We needed to get our vanity installed for our bathroom, so Will worked with our schedule so we can have both the carpenter and Wills installers on there the same day. It took them the whole day to do the install and they took their time doing it. We LOVE the finished product, our kitchen and bathrooms look AMAZING! We definitely recommend Will and will definitely use him again. My only recommendation to Will is to accept PayPal, come on dude its 2015 ;) !!!

I am glad I hired W&W Painters for my kitchen cabinets, front door and some outside work. William was organized and professional. His main guy did most of the work and William filled in. He also has people for specific things such as spraying cabinets and changing ceiling look. All of the workers did a great job and I would not hesitate to hire them again.

Les worked for me on three occasions, each time for fairly extensive periods, averaging 2 - 3 months each time. Originally, I wanted to fix up our old place before selling it. The bathrooms were the main area of interest, and he suggested using tile for the lavatories which had originally been done in cultured marble that had yellowed and stained over time. The finished results looked outstanding. When he had completed the majority of the original work, a roof leak following a storm damaged my wooden floors and the ceiling and wall sheetrock upstairs. A few months later, Les returned and re-floored partial sections of two upstairs rooms. The original flooring had been applied with glue, so it was extremely difficult to get the floor level again so that new wood could be laid, but he managed to do so, and the net result was that the new flooring blended in seamlessly. Damage to the ceiling was also repaired expertly. Finally, when we moved into our new place, Les 1) made a number of sheetrock repairs throughout the house, 2) repainted most of the house (2400 sq. feet with several flights of stairs), 3) removed the carpeting and refloored the downstairs bedroom/office using hardwood, and 4) built a custom wall-to-wall (8' wide by 8' high) bookcase in one of the upstairs rooms, and 4) applied an epoxy coating to the garage. I was extremely satisfied with the quality of all of the work and feel confident in saying that Les can take on any challenge given to him. He is also dependable and trustworthy.

Installation of wall tiles - Jose was very professional when it came down to pricing and execution of the project, which is a rarity these days. He advised us to change our choice of tiles, which we had already purchased. It was a tough pill to swallow but we are glad we took his advice as the results were spectacular. Highly recommend his services. We will surely go back to him for our forthcoming projects.

As a real estate Broker I’ve worked with many paint and remodeling companies. Due to timing & circumstance, thank goodness we found DJ Remodeling! Denny led his team members to help save an over-promised and botched paint job from a prior contract. DJR saved the day! They worked tirelessly overtime until the house was professionally and beautifully painted and all his workers were wonderful to work with. Very communicative, diligent, trustworthy. I would recommend DJ Remodeling to anyone that wants a high quality well executed job done by a reliable hard-working team. I finally found the Old American work ethic! Halleluhia!

The folks at Floor Coverings International did a fantastic job from beginning to end of our project. They came to our house in a mobile showroom, measured our rooms for no charge, and showed us a wide variety of products making floor shopping a no pressure, pleasurable experience. Everyone is very professional and their installation services were awesome. They paid attention to every little detail during the installation to ensure the wood we selected was perfect. Vijay was here every day. They cleaned up after they finished and then the owner came back to do a final walk through to make sure we were completely happy with everything. I will definitely use them on my next project and highly recommend them to everyone.

Did great work and price was honest and reasonable. They did the tile work for the dinning room floor, bathroom floor, and bathtub surround. In addition, they replaced the bathroom vanity, painted the kitchen cabinets, and applied epoxy to the kitchen's laminate counter. Levi was responsive to my texts and phone calls, and didn't have any problem with the additional requests made once construction started.

I hired Mr. Nice Guy to remove 2 gates and posts and install them at another location. In setting up the appointment I had to reschedule several times. Mr. Nice Guy was very accommodating and did an excellent job for me at both locations. I will hire him again to assist with handyman services at my new home.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
