Keith is a very helpful and knowledgeable math and science tutor. What makes him such a great tutor is his diverse skill set for all types of math but for the sciences as well. Not only did he improve my math a science skills, but he also helped me and my sister, whom he was also tutoring. Make more informed decisions on our future career and choose which school was the best for us. He not only is a great tutor but he grew to also become a great friend. Highly recommend him for anyone in high school or college that need help in any math or science class.

Best tutor we've ever had!! sandeep is the best tutor my kids have ever had. we've tried a few different tutors for my kids grades 5, 7, and 11. sandeep helps all of them excellently. he prepares each one of my kids for their classes & exams according to their needs. my 5th grade daughter was struggling in writing and math. sandeep works with her. she loves english and math now. same with my son. our 11th grader scored well in his PSAT thanks to sandeep and he is now getting ready to take his SAT. sandeep also helps him with chemistry and precalculus. he is the best fit for our kids.

From the beginning, they have provided insightful feedback to help with my children's learning disabilities (one child has dysgraphia and the other child has dyslexia and ADD). Mrs. Blojay helped my daughter make progress in several of her math classes, especially in Algebra. The customized plans she developed for my daughter accurately identified the learning gaps that had impeded her grasping new concepts. While working on the learning gaps, my daughter was better able to grasp and understand the concepts presented to her. As a result, my daughter kept pace in her math classes and successfully completed them. Equally important, my daughter made acceptable math scores on college entrance exams and gained entry to college-level math classes without having to take non-credit prep math courses. Mrs. Blojay also provided a foundation of problem-solving strategies that assisted my daughter throughout her college years and into her current profession. As a retired educator (math teacher and guidance counselor), I can appreciate the efforts made by Mrs. Blojay in assuring the successful outcome for each student she encounters. Her comprehensive approach to "meeting the student where he/she is" and providing understandable, knowledge-building steps to "where he/she should be" is highly beneficial and satisfying to the student. Students who have received tutoring from Mrs. Blojay met or surpassed the required passing scores on local school and national assessments. As a result of receiving help from Mrs. Blojay, students have thrived, succeeded, and gained self-confidence in learning and using math.

Felicia was amazing working with my 3 boys in 3 different grades. She identified their strengths, their weaknesses and their personalities very quickly which helped her to personalize her teaching strategies for each of them! My children were tutored by her throughout the summer and at the beginning of the school year, one of my sons placed in Pre-AP math and my other two were ahead in their grade level in math! I rate her services as top notch and she sincerely cares about your child(ren).

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:

  • National average cost for an algebra home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
  • National average cost for a French home tutor: $30-$50 per hour.
  • National average cost for a geometry home tutor: $50-$60 per hour.
  • National average cost for a math home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
  • National average cost for reading and writing home tutor: $40-$60 per hour.
  • National average cost for an SAT home tutor: $70 per hour.
  • National average cost for an ACT home tutor: $70-$100 per hour.
