I reached out to Jim through Thumbtack for a quote for catering our wedding reception. Within hours Jim replied with all the details I needed.
Within days Jim had sent us all of his paperwork including his insurance papers, permits, menu and itemized invoice, all while we were still waiting on call-backs from "friend-of-a-friend" "caterer-on-the-side types." People who, no doubt, didn't have any of these permits or insurance or even realized they need them to work in some venues.
Planning this thing was filled with indecision, date changes and even a venue change. We actually contacted 2 other cateres and NEVER GOT A REPLY.
Through it all Jim was calm, accommodating and flexible. All i ever got from this guy was "no problem" and " I'll take care of it."
After all was said and done we decided to cancel the reception. But I was so taken with Jim's level of professionalism and service that I felt compelled to send him something anyway. We both felt such a sense of relief and peace once we had him booked, and that's priceless.
I'd like to also share one note with anyone who may have reservations about having bbq at a wedding reception, as my fiance did at first.
If you're concerned that there will be bbq sauce everywhere and it will get all over your guests' hands and clothes, please don't be. Jim offers a wide assortment of meats and his food isn't prepared or served swimming with bbq. We were looking forward to serving our guests a real, bonafide, down home, stick-to-your-ribs MEAL, and not some bougie over-priced veggie platter or dry-ass chicken breast-broccoli dinner.
In fact not having had the opportunity to have Jim's food was the only disappointing thing about cancelling our reception.
But if his food is anywhere near the level of his service and professionalism we were in for quite an amazing experience. I will definitely have him top of mind for any event needing a caterer in the future.
