Great golf lessons at a most reasonable price. Thanks to Kenneth I am much better golfer. I won't be making the tour anytime soon, but it's nice knowing the fundamentals of the game and finally knowing why the ball flies how and where it does. Since I started playing I was told my baseball swing would kill my golf game, turns out that all it needed was some adjustment. Now I just feel more comfortable and mishits are beginning to decline as I work on the fundamentals I learned from Kenneth. Only negative is: My girlfriend took lessons with me and kicks my ass on the course. :) Kenneth, Thank You sir, we'll need to golf together soon - you're a hell of a nice guy.

Dr. Karl took the time and explained the physics of golf to my level of satisfaction. He could have gone as deep as I wanted but would have been over my head and interest level. He provided handouts and actually went through what the process would be. This is a totally different golf lesson than the typical teaching pro who just starts with "Let me watch you hit a few balls." I though I was a decent putter but through his checklist I believe I will become a great putter. Can't wait for the next lesson!

I have taken golf lessons from many instructors. Andrew Frakes was different. He was the only instructor that took my current swing and improved on it. He didn't try to teach me one specific swing, he taught and helped me to understand my current swing. That made the lesson comfortable. I highly recommend Andrew Frakes.

The initial lesson with Jason was a very positive experience for me. He helped me tweak some things with my driver that showed immediate results and will help my game tremendously after more practice. He was also very patient and attentive and provided positive feedback and suggestions. I plan to hire him for more lessons in the future.

Tim Moore started off being my college golf coach and after spending time with him and learning from him he quickly became my mentor. He is very passionate about whatever he does which made me, and the rest of our team want to better our self in the classroom, on the golf course, and in life. He is a great spokesperson and a very knowledgeable person. He's a great role model and someone that anyone would fight for to be on their side.

While Matt helped me with my game (3-4 stroke immediate improvement just working on my grip), what convinced me that Matt was an excellent instructor were the results in a friend of mine's game: Mark is 6'8" (280 lbs.) but routinely drove the ball sub-200 and never scored below 100. After several lessons with Matt, primarily focused on hip rotation and wrist lock, Mark has seriously improved his game - both overall score and distance/accuracy. I would highly recommend Matt to seasoned golfers or to guys like Mark who just want to have fun with the boys.

Dalton is a World Class Golf instrictir. I was a 12 handicapp and in 2 years I was a solid 8 handicap. He has been helping with my putting recently and my goal is to be a zero to 3 handicap in 2017. High recommend.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What makes a good golf instructor?

A good golf instructor is someone who has the playing skill you’d like to achieve, is qualified to teach golf, and is someone you can get along with. Some experts recommend you only take golf lessons from coaches with active accreditation from reputable associations such as the PGA, LPGA, or similar organizations that focus on continuing education. You’ll be spending hours out on the green with the pro during lessons, so a good rapport, strong communication and the right personality fit are key. A proven track record is also important. Read reviews from their current and former students to make sure they have helped people achieve their golfing goals, and always ask about the instructor’s experience before signing on for lessons. Years of providing lessons can contribute to a deeper understanding of how to teach the sport. Just because your friend or partner is great at golf doesn’t mean they’ll give good golf lessons. Invest in a professional golf instructor who knows how to teach the sport from short game to full swing.

    How much are golf lessons?

Golf lessons are a great way to break into the sport or take your golf game to a new level. The national average cost for golf lessons is $50-$60, but prices will vary based on what type of lessons you want. The most expensive golf lessons will be private instruction with top-tier coaches. These are golf instructors who have held high professional ranking and have a good reputation. Regardless of who is teaching, private instruction is always more costly than couples’ lessons or small group lessons (usually up to four people). Teachers often offer a lower price per lesson when you buy a package of several lessons at one time. Here are some examples of average golf lesson costs:

    • Individual lessons:
      • Standard pricing for 60-minute private lesson: $60.
      • 60-minute lesson with renowned golf coach: $100.
    • Couples’ lessons:
      • Standard pricing for 90-minute duo lesson: $100.
      • 60-minute lesson with renowned golf coach: $125.
    • Golf lesson package pricing:
      • Purchase six individual lessons at one time and save $10.
      • Purchase 10 individual lessons at one time and save $40.
      • Purchase six couples’ lessons at one time and save $40.
      • Purchase 10 couples’ lessons at one time and save $200.

What age should you start golf lessons?

Golf lessons for kids can start as early as age four or five. They’re too young for formal training, but you can keep them interested and engaged and give them a feel for the game. U.S. Kids Golf recommends starting formal training for junior golfers at six years old. It’s important for young golfers to swing clubs that are the right length and weight for their body; U.S. Kids Golf provides a fitting guide.

Golf lessons for kids, especially young kids, should be about encouraging success rather than correcting mistakes, according to U.S. Kids Golf. If you want your child to love golf for life, you want their early experiences to be positive. Golf lessons for kids are less expensive than golf lessons for adults. A monthly rate (including four lessons) for group golf lessons for kids may average $100. Semi-private golf lessons for kids may range from $150 to $200 per month. Location and instructor reputation can also affect cost. Often, discounts are provided when multiple months are purchased at one time.
