The movers for my project were Brandon, Nicki, and Jack. They were very professional, courteous, and friendly. My furniture pieces are very heavy and these guys lifted them with precision and ease. They were very careful in the handling of each piece. I will definitely use them again. I was impressed.

Very happy with the service I received. I needed help with heavy furniture moving inside my home. Blue Mule Movers was prompt in contacting me, giving me a reasonable offer, and very willing to extend their service. The two young men who came to do the job drove a long way from Dallas to Tarrant County, called when they were going to be late, were very efficient and courteous when they arrived, and made sure everything was to my satisfaction when re-arranging furniture. I wish I were able to do my room arranging project myself, but I am grateful to find a company that was ready, willing and able to help at a slightly better rate than the going rate for labor. I would use them again in any staging or furniture arranging in the future, and I will put them on my referral list when I consult with others. This type of service for heavy lifting wasn't easy to find. Glad to know Blue Mule is out there. Thank you!

This was not my first time hiring movers, but this was my first time with castle movers. I want to give a fair and balanced review of the service. Pros: Overall move went great! They were very courteous, and professional. They provided options for wrapping furniture and were genuinely trying to make the move go smoothly as possible. Above and beyond care for my items. Very detailed in packing options. The crew worked hard in what had to be one of the hottest days so far this year. Even with the heat and heavy lifting they didn't cut corners, and packed and secured everything in the truck properly. They inspected all furniture before loading and notified me of any existing blemish before moving. Customer service from the crew was easily the best I've recieved. Truck had tons of space. Cons: Although small, they make a difference. Make sure all of your trucks have a tool box. Luckily my tools were readily available. This was just a minor issue. For a three man crew please send 3 healthy crew members. I had two healthy guys and one on restrictive duty due to an injury. Luckily we had plenty of smaller items and boxes to keep him more than busy so I don't believe it caused the move to last any longer than normal, but I'm sure the other two could have used a break from the heavy lifting. Punctuality: scheduled for 10 arrived at 11:30. In my experience this is common among moving companies and was to be expected, and full disclosure they did call to inform me they were running behind. At the end of the day the question is would I hire castle movers again or recommend them to a friend? Absolutely! The pros definitely outweight the cons. Outstanding move! Tough to find this level of service for the low price they offer. Thank You castle movers for a successful move!

What I liked the most about Handle With Care Dallas Movers was the crews attention to the small things. I went out periodically to the truck and looked inside to make sure my fragile boxes weren't buried under the heavy ones. They did a great job at it and I also liked that they brought along a zippered mattress bag. I had to pay extra for it but it was of good quality. Bottom line they had a good price and provided excellent service moving my home.

Could not have asked for better! I called them a few days out from my move from California to Texas. We were getting and loading a 16' truck, but definitely needed help unloading it all into a second floor apartment. I'd called to ask a few more things after receiving a quote (the cheapest I had gotten for the area) from them on Thumbtack and even that first phone call was super professional, straight forward, and helpful. They would be flying in from a job in Atlanta that afternoon but would get to my apartment as soon as they could! Talk about working for the customer!! They got here and wasted NO time at all! I mean, these guys were loading 5 heavy boxes into their backs at a time and climbing stairs! Didn't bother taking drawers or things out of dressers, just moved the whole thing up! They were constantly on the move and got it done well within the window so that there wouldn't be any other charges. Seriously, American Eagle couldn't have made this any easier! They even helped with where to put furniture!

We were a little hesitant to hire movers after our experience with the company that moved us from California to Texas. It was a terrible experience, but we needed the assistance with our large items since we had a tri-level townhouse. Aplus Movers exceeded our very high expectations. They made the scheduling process and breeze even when we changed our moving date to a week earlier they were very accommodating. Upon arrival at our townhouse. The gentlemen moving us were polite, professional, and even made a little small talk. They did a great job of efficiently loading all of our boxes and easily carried out our very heavy washer and dryer down two flights of stairs. Then when they arrived at our new home they quickly assessed where our labeled boxes should go and wasted no time, as they knew we were paying per hour. They even took the time to double check that they had reassembled everything they had previously taken apart. We are very satisfied with the professionalism and care the guys took with all of our belongings. We would recommend Aplus Movers to anyone planning a move big or small.

Mendell contacted me promptly after my quote request and I was confident I made the right choice hiring Smith's Moving Company. They arrived a few minutes early and immediately got to work hauling boxes out. They even provided me with tape as mine wasn't sticking properly. He constantly communicated with me very respectfully and courteous. Reminding me not to lift too heavy of items and that is the purpose I hired them for. They wrapped all of my items and maneuvered them out with great care. I have absolutely no complaints. Pricing was reasonable and most definitely received value for the price I paid. I will absolutely seek them if needed to move again. Don't worry Mendell, next time you'll be hauling heavy items down the stairs instead of UP!! Thank you so much!!!

I had the best experience with TransMovers,LLC, with less than a day's notice they moved my whole apartment, including my heavy wood furniture and W/D in less than three hours without a scratch and with no fooling around or wasted time. They had a great work ethic and were thoughtful and professional. The price was very fair, and when it came time to pay it was simple and fast to pay with my debit card. I would definitely recommend them and I will use them again when my lease expires here!

I am an attorney in Dallas, and my law practice keeps me very busy. I recently moved out of my apartment in Addison, but I had not had time to locate a new apartment, and I needed to move all of my belongings into storage at the last minute--about 10 hours before I needed to vacate the premises. A friend who had agreed to help got called into work at the last minute, so I was left high and dry; both puzzled and worried about my predicament. I have a small efficiency vehicle that cannot fit more than a couple medium-sized boxes, but I had several large pieces of heavy wooden furniture (bed, headboard, mattress, large dresser, large mirror, sofa, and a wooden desk that weighs several hundred pounds). I had to get my belongings moved before the storage place closed at 6 p.m. I needed a solution, and fast! I called Day and Night Movers in the early afternoon. The owner picked up the phone himself, and was very polite. In mere moments, he was able to arrange a complete move of my apartment into the storage unit at the last minute, and he arrived on the scene with another employee within an hour or two of my call. Both the owner and the other employee were very polite and professional in person. They quickly packed and protected my furniture and belongings, and moved them down four flights of stairs into their truck. They headed right over to the storage unit, and arrived before I arrived myself. They wasted no time, but went straight to their work, unloading the truck and putting everything carefully on the dollies to transfer all of my worldly possessions into the storage unit, several floors up. Everything entered the storage unit nicely wrapped in plastic bags and carefully stacked. Nothing was damaged in the move--not a single ding on any of the furniture! The unloading and storage was just as fast as the packing, and I was able to get back to the apartment to clean up and vacate with time to spare. Day and Night Movers did not dirty or damage my apartment in the least--no dirt or scuffs on the floor, nor dings on the door, corners, or crown moulding--and I got my entire security deposit back in full! I was, and am, very pleased with the promptness of the service, the politeness of the owner and the employee, and the quality of the move. Day and Night Movers really saved my hide, and the price was excellent. They did not charge any expedite fees or extra materials fees for this move--it was all on a very reasonable and affordable flat rate. Without Day and Night Movers, I would have been in a world of hurt--the owner and his team swooped in and saved the day! I highly recommend this company for any residential or office moves in the Dallas area; the company's speed, affordability, and professional demeanor are the best of any mover I have ever used. Five stars!

I had Roger and his friend help me move out of my apartment and into a bigger townhouse. He was waiting on me at my apartment before I even got there and was able to move all of my heavy lifting items. If I ever move again, I will definitely be calling him for his help!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
