I had what I thought was a simple washer installation. It turned out to be a little bit more complex due to leaking from the hot water stem. Carl offered to replace it, but respected my decision to let the apartment maintenance take care of that piece. He worked quickly, but with care to ensure everything he could do was done right. If I needed additional work that couldn't be done by the apartment, I would use him again in a heartbeat.

After moving to a new home, I needed my dryer switched from a 3 prong to 4 prong cord and the dryer vent connected. Kevin performed the job exactly as requested.

Heart of Texas came out within 24 hours of requesting service and fixed my washer quickly. He had the part on hand, so there was no need for multiple visits. I am very pleased and will be calling them again if needed. Also, I liked that they had a warranty on their service. I highly recommend them.

This is for a rental property. Mark quickly figured out the root cause of 3 "dead" outlets in the kitchen area. The GFCI outlet went bad thus electric was not delivered to other outlets. I also asked Mark to check out why the dryer does not provide hot air to dry the clothes. It turned out that a single pole breaker was installed by the previous owner and the electrical cord to dryer was bad. Mark installed a new twin single pole and replaced the bad cord, the dryer is now working correctly. I am very happy with the excellent work. Thanks Mark !!!

I had a new laundry room built in our garage building and have had to pay my share of contractors throughout that process. Once the washer and dryer were ready to be installed, I didn't want to get gouged on another inflated service visit so I shopped around and Josh offered a very competitive price and did excellent, detail oriented work. I would highly recommend hiring him!

In November our refrigerator stopped keeping the food cold. Chris and his wife came out and took care of the problem. They were both very professional, friendly, and we have been very pleased with their work. Our dryer is now in need of repair and we knew right away they were the ones we needed to call again. We didn't even think about using anyone else. I would highly recommend them !!

Ryan and his assistant did a great job installing and stacking a full size washer/dryer into a very small closet. They were on time, good communicators and cleaned up after their work. Also charged a fair price. Highly recommended. Would hire again.

Gary Gray fixed our sink (in like 5 minutes) and showed my husband how to fix it in the future. He also is coming back to fix our sliding door and dryer (He had to get parts). He also fixed our front door knob. All of this was only $50 and that's what he will charge when he comes back to fix our dryer and sliding door. Plus he was likable, professional, and easy to schedule with, unlike the handyman with the most reviews who was IMPOSSIBLE to schedule with.

Terrence did a great job with our washer. No more leaks! Tracked a bit of water in the kitchen, but it was an easy cleanup. He was professional and friendly with reasonable prices. I'd hire him again.

My technician was Adam, he arrived on time, said my dryer needed a new heating element. I agreed to wait for the part. When it arrived he got it repaired quick and it's heating again. I would recommend them again. Also they offer a 6 month warranty for their parts&labor. Better than most companies around.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
