Arrived on time. The installation went quickly. Did a good job except he didn't put in the lights. Left it open for me to do later. Maybe that's the standard in the garage door industry, but if I'm doing a job, I'm going to complete it.

Mr. Gonzalez showed up on time, and completed several areas for the price quoted. I ordered the wrong size brick for one area. He returned 2 weeks later to finish ... for the price quoted: work was done well. We had brick cut out for new windows, window area framed in and a 4x7 wall bricked.

Juan has been doing work for us for several weeks. He is multi-talented and resourceful. He has done handyman-type jobs for us such as hanging curtain rods in the house. He has planted our gardens after meticulously preparing them. He thinks ahead and suggests better ways to get things done. He has done painting on our house. Our biggest project to date has been building wooden screens for the windows on our house in a historic district. You can't buy wooden screens anymore, and you can't put up aluminum screens in our neighborhood. He has done a super job of building the screens from A to Z. We have other projects that he will be doing, including relocating and installing some windows on our house. I highly recommend Juan for his abilities and careful work, and common sense.

Mitchell did an excellent job on our kitchen remodel. He was on time, courteous, and professional. He arrived on time and got to work immediately. We had him install a glass tile backsplash, hang cabinets, and install an over-the-range microwave. He went above and beyond by also trimming our blinds once he tiled the window box. I will be calling him again for our future remodeling projects!

The young man is truly great !! Very professional and punctual. The price was very fair. After the glass on my old window was replaced I asked him to give me an estimate to replace all 28 windows in my home and the price was excellent... that plus the quality of his work sealed the deal. If you give him a chance you won’t regret it.

We really appreciated Thomas Glass and the work he did for us. From the time I called, which was on a day when most companies were already closed, he came over hours later. He was professional and seemed confident in what needed to be done at an affordable and fair rate. He was punctual and always kept us updated on the arrival of the window that had to ordered. My family, mother and daughter, feel comfortable using him in the future for any window and glass issues.

It was great working with RDS Doors & Windows. I decided to find a local company to work with, and I'm happy I did. It was only in my budget to replace a few windows at this time, but they were still happy to have me as a customer. I wasn't pushed back on the list just because I was a smaller job, and I appreciate that very much. I will definitely be using them in the future for my next set of windows. The windows look beautiful and the color suggested by the installer looks great on the outside of the house! The windows we had replaced will be for our nursery, and I'm so happy!

Carlos and Jamie did a wonderful job and are great to work with. I had a brick outdoor kitchen surrounding a gas line, hose spigot, and right next to some windows. I also was trying to save the existing grill which was attached to the brick. They took care of everything quickly and left everything clean and were very detailed to make sure nothing got damaged. Will definitely be using them again for some other house projects.

Rick was a pleasure to work with. He repaired the commercial office doors at my place of business. His service was fast and efficient and did not interrupt during business hours. His pricing was fair and he gave me some excellent advice to follow for how to maintain the doors at my work. As a business owner, it is great to have advice from many different professionals.

I was very pleased that an appointment with a service man was scheduled for the next day after I called about my Microwave. The Service man was knowledgeable and efficiently corrected the problem. My only suggestion is that times for services/repairs should be made with a 2 hour window instead of a four hour window for time of arrival.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.
