We ordered the smoked chicken quarters and bacon wrapped sirloin, mac n cheese, and cream of corn. The meal came with salad, dinner rolls, sweet/unsweetend tea, and plastic ware. The meal was amazing. Everyone raved about the food. The food was delivered on time even with the venue change due to bad weather. Very professional and excellent service. Highly recommend!!

Chef Jared cooked a delicious meal for us at the Airbnb we rented for a 12 person Bachelorette party. He was easy to work with and professional. And the food was delicious!!! (Strawberry ice cream was to die for). It was so nice to not have to worry about being in the kitchen while entertaining, and Chef Jared even did all of the cleanup. HIGHLY recommend hiring Chef Jared!

Steve and Cindy are a professional, understanding, patient, supportive, and exceptional team. They are easy to work with, flexible, easy to get in touch with, and obviously love their job. They have ideas when you need them but do not push anything on you. It was a pleasure to have them DJ for us, and having Cindy be the "day of wedding coordinator" (which included the rehearsal the evening before) was the icing on the cake. Everything went smoothly and everyone knew exactly what to do. Thank you Steve and Cindy!

Urban Taste catered a VIP event for a store grand opening expecting 400 but due to weather we only had about 250. Tiffany's menue was exactly what we were looking for and she was a pleasure to work with. The food was great! The area's of disapointment could have been caused by the bad weather leading up to the event and the day of the event (worst snow/ice in years) The staff had a hard time keeping food on the tables and the water filled. Maybe we had too agressive of a menue with food that required too much prep, something to think about when you are planning.

I found Chef Gary here on Thumbtack. We were looking to host a small dinner party - 12 people total - for my Wife's birthday and our anniversary. Chef Gary was very professional. I met him for coffee to discuss the menu and finalize the price. He then took time to come to our house a couple weeks in advance to look at the Kitchen and determine what we had and what he needed. On the day of the event he and his assistant arrived on time and were very professional. Now for the best part - the food was FANTASTIC. Our guests LOVED all three courses. We had a salad which was very tasty. The main course was surf and turf with a crab cake and beef tenderloin along with sweet potatoes and sautéed spinach. The desert is not something I would normally order but it was EXCELLENT. A poached Pear with whipped cream. SUPER SWEET AND DELICIOUS. The presentation was impeccable and every one of our guests either asked for information on Chef Gary or told us to make sure to keep his card available in the event they need a personal Chef. The kitchen was left in the same condition as Chef Gary found it, neat and clean. I WILL be hiring Chef Gary again, hopefully sooner rather than later. Michael W. Zientz

Lauren was amazing! It was my first time using her for my birthday celebration and she executed my ideas perfectly! I had a red velvet cake with buttercream icing! I told her I didn't like fondant but I want the cake to be smooth and she said no problem! It was exquisite! Also, I ordered 2 dozen strawberry cupcakes! The only thing is, and this was completely my fault, I forgot to tell her not to put as much icing on the cupcakes and she made them look dazzling, it was just a lot of icing for myself. My friends and family loved every bit of the cake and cupcakes. I highly recommend her to anyone in her area. She's very professional, very caring and a wonderful pastry master! She executes everything she does!

I own a homemade ice cream and party planning company. I partnered with Angel's Creations for an event I had to do for Western Union. Angel's Creations' pricing was within our budget and the food was delivered hot and promptly ready to serve. The team was friendly and very professional. The guests raved about the delicious home cooked meal and there was not a drop left. I will definitely be using Angel Creations in the future for other upcoming events.

I ordered the Pear and Pecan cake with Brandy whipped cream for a special occasion. I'd never had pear in a cake before and I am so glad that Chef Wende suggested it. We loved it! I had a small piece leftover so I froze it so I could try it as a breakfast cake (mmm heated with butter). Delivery was on time and the price was just right. I'm looking forward to our next event to try some more E.D.G.E. delights.

Great Service 1000% I love Alara Scott ! She is very good at reading a person's flair and style and developing a look and menu to fit her customer. She and her staff are very easy to talk to. My event was small but i felt like i had the best service as she offered suggestions in every area I questioned her about. From catering to purchasing ice. She is a pleasure to work with and I can't wait to work with her on all my future events.

Samantha did an excellent job catering for my friend's baby shower. Everyone was very impressed with the food presentation as well as the variety of flavors in both hot and cold items. If you are looking for a sweet treat, ask to try her berries cup with her amazingly rich whipped cream topping. Another popular item at the party was her caprazy bits drizzles in balsamic. I personally enjoy southern cooking and her mini stuffed potatoes with cheddar cheese, bacon and sour cream hit the spot! Samantha was very easy to work with and willing to be flexible due to the new baby coming earlier than expected. She made preparing for the shower so much easier and I am so thankful I used her.

I own a snow cone place in the neighborhood. Chef Dale comes in all the time to get a shaved ice. My daughters school needed a catered function for the PTA and i knew he owned a catering business. He and I collaborated on it and the catering staff and food came out fantastic.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

How much should catering cost per person?

Catering prices can range from about $10 per guest on the low end to $150 or more per person on the high end. Catering costs represent the quality of food, presentation, variety, ingredients and service. But catering prices are more than the cost to cook the food that will be at your party; they also include the cost for the company to do business. Here is a simple breakdown of catering prices:

    • Menu: The food you serve your guests will directly affect the price per person. Organic ingredients, complex recipes, elaborate presentations, or high-ticket items like lobster or filet mignon all add to the cost.
    • Service: Buffet, family style, plated dinners — how you serve the food affects the cost per person. For example, a true plated meal can cost about twice the price of a staff-assisted buffet because of staffing costs. Hiring waiters, bartenders and cleanup crew will all be calculated into the per-person catering price.
    • Drinks: Providing beverages and alcoholic drinks for guests greatly increases your catering budget. Hosting an open bar can cost as much per person as the meal.
    • Rentals: Seating, plates, glassware, etc., will all have an effect on the cost per person for catering. For example, a plastic conference table that seats 10 costs about $6 to rent on average, while a wooden farmhouse table is about $80 to rent on average.
    • Business costs: Any catering cost will also include the cost for the company to do business such as insurance, employee wages, commercial kitchen space and more.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
