George is a great instructor. He knows how and what to teach. I have been taking lessons from George for two months now and I am reading sheet music and understanding the fundamentals of playing the guitar. I look forward to years of joy from what George is teaching me.

Michael will not only teach you proper mechanics, he will teach you ways to improve upon the "typical" ways of playing to free those fingers up to do more! I have had a couple lessons with him and will have more! I am a musician but only a rough beginner at guitar. I had 15-20 lessons years ago with another master, Dick Gordon Jr. in Tulsa, OK and working with Michael will be a great way to follow those up and get back into learning. He also enjoys helping people to learn to play the songs they want to play in just about any style.

I have been taking lessons from Damon every weekend for 6 months, and I can’t tell you how much learning from him has changed my musicianship. Before I went to him I was timid and unsure of myself as a musician, but after a short time I started seeing significant improvements. Career changing improvements. Not only did Damon fix my bad vocal tendencies, but he gave me amazing opportunities to sing around Dallas, and continues to do so. Most of all, he helped me to define myself as the artist I knew was inside of me somewhere, but was thwarted by years of rejection and mistakes. Damon taught me how to be confident, proud, and true to myself and the music I wanted to make. Thanks to him I am now writing my debut EP the way I want to. The way I always knew I could.

Dennis has been an excellent teacher. He is clearly knowledgable about guitar playing and is an effective teacher for my learning style. My lessons have been fun as well as educational covering both necessary fundementals and fun stuff! He is very personal and welcoming. I take my lessons in his lovely home and am always made to feel comfortable. He has been very accomodating and understanding when I have had scheduling issues and he makes prompt return contact. I would recommend him as a teacher.

Having lessons over skype is much easier than I thought it would be! Doesn't detract from the learning at all. I've had about 10 lessons now and can feel great progress compared to trying to learn on my own. Definitely recommend!

Miriam is the definition of a teacher. Her zealous attitude towards your curriculum incites passion for learning. Your material is tailored to your speed and future goals. This is what I love about learning piano from Miriam. If you are struggling with concepts, it will be addressed in the assignments. If your goals require a certain specialization, like speed or stamina, new exercises can be added. If you hire her, you sign up for an adaptable curriculum that makes the process of learning piano more personal.

I contacted several competitors prior & they would take long to reply. Zera was not. They responded quickly, politely, & set things up very easily. No back & forth. They have a good interactive site. You can pay online. Very easy people to work with. As far as the lessons, my son is liking it, he looks forward to his lessons every week. I cant ask for more. He is learning bass guitar with Jordan.

Michael is quite proficient in both his own abilities on guitar and also his ability to teach. He is patient, and happy to answer all my questions which I appreciate as an intermediate-level guitarist. He was happy to tailor my lessons to specific areas that I already knew I wanted to address, as opposed to forcing me into a highly structured, pre-determined lesson plan, which again I appreciate. I highly recommend Michael for anyone looking to become a better guitar player and musician.

We selected Richard to teach piano to our teenage son, Mason. He has done an amazing job. Mason could already read music since he's in choir, but he had never played an instrument. In just a few months, Mason is playing with both hands and is learning to improvise. Richard teaches him theory and the basics of different styles like rock, jazz and classical. Mason's favorite thing about his lessons is that Richard makes them interesting. I had my doubts that Mason would stick with piano. I think he is successful because of Richard's style and personality.

My entire family has had a wonderful experience with lessons from Pete. He is patient, kind, warm and instructs in a clear manner. My daughter is loving piano and growing every week. Pete goes out of his way to be kind and gentle and lends himself to teaching snippets to my other little ones whenever they are close during lessons (as they are always interested!) We cannot say enough about this great teacher. Do yourself a favor and hire Pete today!

We hired Anthony to teach our 11 yr old daughter how to play the guitar. This is her first instrument. Anthony was a pure delight to work with, was always on time and sometimes even stayed a little over to make sure the lesson(s) were taught. He even helped us find a GOOD guitar for our daughter. Our daughter looked forward to each lesson with Anthony. He even broadened his lessons to include vocal coaching as well. I would highly recommend Anthony for anyone needing a music or vocal coach.

The Sound Foundation has been outstanding to us, especially my son. Norman has done everything possible to see that my son receives his guitar lessons. The Sound Foundation makes you feel at home. He is the most friendliest guy I have met and also, super understanding. My son has learned a lot from his instructor and has picked up some skills. Thank you The Sound Foundation!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

  • Asthma attack
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • External bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Poisoning
  • Neck, head or back injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

What do you learn in a first aid course?

First aid training gives you a variety of lifesaving skills for responding to many different emergency situations. In a first aid course you’ll learn about how to examine someone who’s been hurt, how to use a defibrillator, how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and how to control bleeding and trauma. Some courses include pediatric first aid as well as adult first aid; helping a choking infant, for example, is different from helping a choking adult. Although you can take CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) courses separately, most first aid training includes both.

In a first aid course you’ll also learn how to respond to:

  • Wounds, including punctures, cuts and hemorrhages
  • Heart attacks, chest pain and respiratory arrest
  • Bone fractures, sprains and torn muscles
  • First-, second- and third-degree burns
  • Poisoning
  • Choking
  • Bites and stings
  • Hypothermia or frostbite
  • Shock and seizures
