Rudy's team has done great job of cutting the tree and stump grinding. They have been careful about tree bubbler tube around the stump and dug enough for the tube to trace back. They also cleaned the area and the job efficiently.

I couldn't be more pleased with the work Eberardo has done getting the mess in my yard taken care of. He reshaped my crepe myrtles and holly trees and trimmed all of the new sprouts that popped out on my trees and cleaned up leaves and old tree trimming we had not cleaned up. Also help me out on another project when I needed it.

I had three 26 year old trees and stumps removed at my home. Two were difficult because branches extended into a neighbor's yard. One of the difficult trees was like the "Leaning Tower of Pisa".... tricky to climb. It was amazing to watch the climber tie off branches with rope, slice them off, and then lower them carefully to protect the roof & gutters, fence, and swimming pool pump in my yard - and avoid any debris getting into the neighbor's yard. The crew was exceptionally skillful at their job. Santos Carrasco and his crew were a pleasure to deal with. Santos provided a very fair quote, and we shook hands. The quote was less than I expected because of the degree of difficulty. I was so impressed when I met Santos for the estimate, I did not get any other quotes. Then the quality of the work exceeded expectations. Honest. Professional. Plus they removed a couple of smaller stumps and some surface roots at no additional cost. That was like extra icing on a cake. What a wonderful way to do business! Naturally, when I need help with future tree trimming and landscaping, Sants Landscaping Service will be my first choice. I highly recommend them. I am also impressed with Thumbtack for listing them and managing the reviews.

Matt and his team did an amazing job on my yard. The three projects I had were done very efficiently, and my yard looks great. They back filled my retaining wall, trimmed the trees in the backyard, and cut down the tree and ground the stump in the front yard. Also they arrived and knocked out the work with short notice, just in time for Easter. Definitely would recommend.

Eric and Juan responded quickly to my project of tree trimming and debris removal following the recent storms we had that affected us here in SW Fort Worth. Eric offered a very fair quote for the work to be done. The crew showed up on time and ready to work. I had quite a few broken branches up high in my trees that were tricky to get to and remove but Southwest handled the job with great expertise. They also cleaned up the leftover leaves and small branches and twigs in a very meticulous manner. All in all I was very satisfied and will call them again for my future tree trimming needs. Thanks, Eric and Juan! Jeff Pratt

Jaime was the first Thumbtack PRO to contact me for this job. He was available for an immediate estimate. His pricing was very fair and competitive. He did a superior job. He had excellent communication. He went above and beyond the task and went "the extra mile" to trim my Mom's trees and make them acceptable for the city, as well as doing all the clean up asked for involving some unruly shrubs and small trees growing close to the house and fence. We are so happy with his work. We would HIGHLY recommend this PRO and hope you will hire him for your next project. We sure believe you will be pleased with Jaime's Tree Service. 5 STARS all the way.

Jose’s work was great! I had two major leaks in my system and he basically had to excavate my yard and remove an old stump from a cut down tree that was never removed. He was professional and on time and really took the time to walk me through all his repairs and how to work my system. Thank you Jose for your hard work and making my system operable again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
