I have hired Ashcroft Home Services 3 times now and more to come! It is a family run business and everyone I have met is nice, hardworking, and courteous. First for cleaning, Mario showed up on time and was very meticulous. I provided a list of things to be cleaned and he was very thorough. When I returned after work he was even scraping the paint spots the painters had left on my floor before mopping (this was not on the list). He dusted the whole doors not just the edges, etc. I was very pleasantly surprised. Next, I hired them for packing and moving. Once again, they were very meticulous. 3 people came and packed. I had a large bar with many bottles of liquor and bitters. And all types of wine/cocktail glasses as a true connoisseur would. They carefully wrapped every bottle and glass taking extra care with the thinner more fragile glasses. I have almost completely unpacked the kitchen and nothing was broken. Lastly, I hired Mario to help with painting back my apartment. The walls look great. He took great care around the edges and ceiling. He also offered to help install a light fixture I couldn’t install because of giant holes where the screws should go. I’m so glad I found this business! They have been a huge help in this process of moving into my first home!

These guys are awesome. We had a challenging move from two locations into a bit of an awkward townhome setup. We negotiated our rate and found a great middle ground on thrumbtack for the move I was looking for. Let's start with timeliness. Spotted Frog was on time and met me out front of my downtown complex at 10 am on a Sunday. They signed me to an agreement and were up front on what happens when items break (they didn't) etc. Spotted frog owns a large trailer that is MUCH bigger than a normal box truck. Two people even came up and commented on their positive experiences with such a truck and how it was the way to go in the moving industry. Who knew? They quickly handled my washer and dryer, queen size bed, overpacked suitcase, and a few boxes. Within 40 minues we were onto stage 2 which blew my mind. My unit was on the third floor of a complex with thin aisle ways and they owned it! Our second location took longer but had a lot more stuff. The movers were particularly gracious and patient of our dog who was a bit unsettled over the whole move and throwing a bit of a fit. They may not look like Hulk Hogans, but let me tell you, these two moved a pain in the a** of a couch down two flights of stairs in record time. I've never seen anything like it. After busting their butts and kicking the second apartments butt, you would think to offer your movers a water or something of the like. I was blown away when they offered me one. Look, I can't get into the intricacies. These guys own, are polite, fair, and careful with your lives and stuff. I'm very happy I selected them to help me with this sensitive time in my life which is the changing of a home. Hire them! You wont regret it!

What a great group of people. I had to change my date and time for moving due to closing date being changed and this was no problem for them to accommodate. They fit me in the day that I needed to move with no problem. The guys did a great job moving everything and putting them in the proper rooms in my new house. I HIGHLY recommend Belle's movers to anyone needing a move. They went above and beyond to make sure our move was successful .

I moved to Austin in short notice and did not schedule any unloading/unpacking services with any moving company in Austin. No company could help immediately except Todd. He charged a reasonable rate and managed to move my entire one bedroom apartment's worth of furniture and belongings in just over an an hour by himself. I had a large sectional couch, large coffee table, queen sized bed and bed frame, and 8 medium sized boxes. He's quick, skilled, and friendly. I recommend using Todd if you are moving one or two bedrooms worth of materials.

1Source Moving is a fantastic company. They moved us cross-country and then did another smaller move for us in Austin. They were punctual, professional, and friendly. The movers were experienced and carefully loaded and unloaded our belongings. They were flexible and worked to accommodate our schedule and needs. We feel we got great value for both moves. I highly recommend Andy and his company as great movers that matched every quality we would ever look for in a mover.

They call him the firefighter, and boy is it true! I hired Men of Valor to help with my move after uhaul informed me that it would cost an arm and a leg to have my upods delivered. Uhaul made the move as unpleasant as possible, but Nelson came through with solutions to all of their curve balls. His quick thinking and willingness to solve problems helped relieve some of the stress of moving, and dealing with uhaul. Their team took on my difficult move, and not only did they get it done, but despite the obstacles in their way (in addition to the uhaul issues it rained cats and dogs on moving day) they did it with a good attitude. In addition, to getting all my stuff moved in, Nelson even helped arrange my furniture, so that I wouldn't have to rearrange things later, and reassembled my bed and dining room table. This attention to detail and helpful attitude helped make a pain in the behind move a little bit better. I would highly recommend Men of Valor to anyone who needs moving help.

Outstanding job. Professional workers, punctual, careful with the furniture. When moving in even suggested layouts in the new property and helped place everything. Also helped me dispose of some bulky items. I moved many times while in the military, and often had the grab-and-dump type movers, or the big companies who damage your stuff in the warehouse rather than during the move. These guys definitely are neither. I highly recommend!

Our porches were covered with pollen and I couldn’t get it off for the life of me. I posted the job request and got a response from Jaime almost immediately. He was thorough in his quote, knowledgeable about the benefits, and detail-oriented in his work. We will absolutely be hiring Jaime to work at our home in the future.

Adrienne did a wonderful job on my house cleaning. My boyfriend and I travel for work often and cannot always make house cleaning a priority. Our house looked and smelled fantastic and not a trace of pet hair when she was finished! Such a small thing but a big impact - I always wrap the toaster oven tray in foil. Adrienne cleaned the entire oven and re-wrapped it with a new piece. Just so small but awesome attention to detail. We’ll be hiring her services for bi-weekly cleanings and look forward to coming home to a clean space!!

I would highly recommend Orlando for any kind of work you need done. I had extensive water damage in my guest bath, including the sub flooring. Orlando responded the day I called and, after seeing the work that needed to be done, went with me to Home Depot and Lowe’s to get everything we needed. He started the demo work that same day. The finished results are beautiful. He was very professional and answered all of my questions and concerns. Not only will I use him again, but I already had him measure for new flooring in other parts of my house.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

      • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
      • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
      • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
      • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
      • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
