Came out punctually and got the job done. Lights look really good - only slight hesitation is the garland around our door entrance was not hung quite right. But we would hire him again

Had a terrible experience with another garage door company (Saras Garage Doors). They came out to replace a motor and not 2 hours after they left, the spring broke and my cables popped. My cars were trapped in the garage thus i couldnt leave the house for 24 hours. Even knowing this, they refused to come back out. I made a thumbtack request and was contacted by Noble Garage Door that night. They not only agreed to come out first thing the next morning, but they did the work at an exceptionally great price, given the grief the other company put me thru. Professionalism, punctuality and reasonable pricing was my experience.

Wow, really went above and beyond my expectations. Excellent service and by far the best value out there. I bought my garage door opener from Lowes while they were running an $89 installation promotion, but when a technician came out for the job they informed me that they could not complete the work because the existing springs were not capable of holding up my heavy wood door. At their recommendation I contacted another garage door company to repair the springs (quoted multiple options ranging from $200-700). I reached out on Thumbtack and Garage Door King was the first to respond (seconds!), matched the Lowes price that others could not, arrived the next day and completed the opener install (and graciously tuned my springs for free to support the heavy door) in about an hour. He even offered to pay me for the keypad that I didn't plan on installing. You don't often find high quality, honest, reliable, and affordable service like this. Don't hire anyone else for your garage door job - it doesn't get better than Garage Door King!

Sears came out and repaired my door last week. I had a spring that broke that needed replacement. I called sears and they came the same day and fixed it. The tech was very professional and understanding. I would recomended Sears over any other garage door company because it's people you can trust and they have been around for a very long time. Thank you James!

Aaron and his crew were prompt, professional, and personable. They patiently answered all my questions (and I had many, lol). Aaron and Mike arrived at agreed upon time, set up, addressed my concerns, done the work I wanted efficiently...didn't take all day like I thought it would, and didn't leave a big mess (I liked that!). Prices were great compared to the few places I called. They provided exceptional customer service and my doors turned out Beautiful!!! I would highly recommend Door Restore & More! (I'll add photos later)

I had Brandon convert a garage shed into a small house... so it involved everything from insulating, wiring, electrical, sheetrock and plumbing ect.. to finishing it off to make it move-in ready...He took my ideas and made them into reality~Brandon was always courteous and cleaned up after himself~ Made suggestions when he thought we could do things differently and was honest and stuck w/ his estimate. I have also hired him for other projects at our home and hope to hire him again~would recommend him to others without hesitation. My husband and I are very happy with his work.

When my garage door unexpectedly derailed and would no longer close, leaving my home exposed and making it impossible for me to leave my property, I made several desperate calls to try and get it repaired immediately, but nobody I spoke to could come out same day. Then I called Southwest Garage Door of Houston, and Deb assured me she could have one of her guys out to my house that very afternoon. In a matter of hours, Chad, a very professional young man, arrived at my home and in no time had my garage door running smoothly again. Should I ever have problems again or consider replacing/upgrading my garage door, I will definitely be calling on them.

Other people were absolutely nuts about the price to build a replacement garage. He was reasonable. They came in and got the job done and even dealt with the city inspector who in my opinion was nuts.

I never actually had the Pleasure of working with George however, after explaining to him what I needed to be done, he sent me in the right direction to purchase the item I needed as it was a remote replacement that was needed. He could have charged me the full price plus the markup for labor but instead he was honest and it did not look at this job as a $as most contractors do. When someone is this upfront and honest in the beginning you can expect them to do a very thorough and honest job to the very end of the project. I will save this info and will refer all friends and family to him in the future.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you fix a broken garage door?

Garage door problems don’t have to mean the end of the world. Garage door repair is typically a one-day process and can be done for only a few hundred dollars. Common garage door repair requests include fixing slow or erratic garage doors, addressing strange sounds coming from the garage door or motor, fixing cosmetic damage such as dents or scrapes, repairing broken doors that are stuck open or closed, and troubleshooting inoperable doors.

The two main garage door operating mechanisms are sectional roll-ups or tilt-ups. Garage door repair services can fix single-car, double-car or RV-height doors. Your garage door may be made of wood, steel, aluminum, masonite, vinyl, fiberglass or another material. The type of garage door repair you need really depends on the type of garage door you have and the issue at hand. Garage door repair pros often charge a flat service call fee to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. For customers who choose to have the repair done, the service call fee may be applied to the first hour of labor (including time to make the diagnosis). If your garage door is under warranty, the repair may be free of charge.

Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How do you choose a garage door?

When garage door repair isn’t an option — perhaps the current door is beyond fixing or you want to upgrade to a quieter, more energy-efficient model — it’s time to buy a new one. But choosing a garage door is not as simple as it sounds, even when you know the right size for your home. A wide range of materials, styles and finishes are available, and each factor influences the cost. Garage doors are made of aluminum, steel, vinyl, fiberglass, masonite, wood (typically cedar or mahogany), or a composite of several materials. They may be insulated against cold or heat. Traditional and modern styles include raised panel, carriage house or crossbuck. Most styles have window or arch options, and are available in different wood finishes and neutral colors. Because garage doors account for a large part of a home’s exterior, their appearance is usually a homeowner’s top priority. An attractive garage door can increase a home’s curb appeal and resale value.

How much does garage door repair cost?

When a garage door goes off the track, the spring breaks, the door is dented or the garage door opener is on the fritz, a professional garage door repair specialist can help. The cost to have a garage door fixed varies, but the national average cost of garage door repair is $70-$110. The extent of the damage and the size and material of the door will affect the final cost. A garage door repair company generally charges a national average of $80 for a service call, which includes the first hour of labor and service, such as testing and inspecting the garage door and opener. Apart from labor, the garage door repair costs hinge on buying replacements parts. For example, a new spring costs an average of $60. Expect to pay several hundred dollars, though, if the door is beyond repair; a new garage door ranges in price from $200 to $4,000, and most homeowners spend an average of $800-$1,200.

How much does it cost to install a new garage door opener?

Your new garage door opener cost will vary based on the model you purchase and how long installation takes. Typically, installation pros charge by the hour, although if the pro is also selling the garage door opener they may have a flat fee for the product with installation. The national average for new garage door opener costs (with installation) is between $390 and $650, although the national average cost for the opener purchased alone may be in the $150-$300 range. The three most common types of openers are chain-drive, screw-drive and belt-drive. The chain-drive costs the least but makes the most noise. The belt-drive is typically the quietest and the most expensive. You can expect to pay about the same amount for installation for any of the three styles. The lifespan of a garage door opener is approximately 10 years, depending on quality. A pro may provide opener repairs for the cost of their service call fee or they may charge a flat fee, such as $100 for opener repair. Here are some examples of new garage door opener average costs, including installation:

  • Contractor-grade garage door opener with installation: $300.
  • Chain-drive opener with installation and one remote: $350.
  • Belt-drive opener with installation and two remotes: $400
  • Top-of-the-line opener with ¾-horsepower battery backup, belt drive and nearly soundless operation: $475
    • The majority of higher-end garage door openers are “smart” products and will connect via app to your smartphone for remote access.
