Cleaner contacted me immediately and arranged for a quick pick up of the rug. I asked for an estimate to clean tile and they sent out an estimator at the same time they picked up the rug. It was ready when promised and delivered swiftly. Great service. Rug looks great. Will use them again.

The work he did for us was very extensive. It included removing the carpet on the whole top floor of our house, including the stairs. Then it was replaced with laminate, added new side boards, and brand new wooden stairs. The whole master bathroom was redone, took out the bathtub and flooring and redone with a full tile shower. We also needed an opening between two bedrooms to combine into a bigger master suite, which included having to open up a wall and install a new opening/door. Everything was done very neatly and beautiful. His work is excellent and very well done!

Job went great, I had Willy remove 1200 sqft of tile, laminate, carpet and vinyl, then install new laminate flooring on the clean slab. The whole time Willy was easy to get ahold of, communicated with us about what was going on, and did an excellent job of installing the floors. We definitely recommend him and we'll definitely use him again in the future.

Sheet rock work in our garage was amazing as was his concrete work between our barn and house. His tile work around our fireplace and the back splash in our kitchen was excellent as well. We also used him for framing and finishing a living area above our garage. This include installing laminate flooring, insulation and window units. He also completed a porch project outside our utility room. Our last project was to replace all the windows and doors in a mother-in-law cottage. His quoted price was accurate as was his estimate on completing each project. We used him multiple times during the course of a year and we wwre always pleased with the results

My wife and I decided to remodel both bathrooms in our house. They needed a fresh look and a complete update. Having seen the quality of work done by Tell Projects, I knew that I wanted them to do the work. I had Zach come by my house with his truck (the mobile showroom) and show my wife the many samples of flooring, tile, cabinets, and hardware. She was so impressed with Zach and the quality of his products that she agreed with me that Tell Projects was the company we wanted to do the work for us. Tell Projects gave us a 10-14 day estimate to finish the work. The workers were courteous and respectful of both our home and the three cats we have in the house. Like any remodeling project there were a couple of things that we added to the project. Both times Zach came by to inspect the issue and let us know how much the additional work would cost. They finished both rooms in 16 days due to the additional work we requested. The whole process was a very positive experience. None of the nightmare stories that you hear about remodeling. Both Zach and Ellie kept in constant contact with my wife and I. They answered our questions and made suggestions for every decision that had to be made from the tile, to the flooring, to the number of shower heads we needed. Each day the men worked quickly and cleaned up before leaving. I would recommend Tell Projects for any job you have from replacing a door to adding a room to your home. If I could use three words to describe this company they would be honest, respectful, and quality. Thank you Tell Projects and especially Zach and Ellie for two beautiful bathrooms!! Ken Robinson

They did an excellent job on the granite, tile backsplash and laminate flooring. Very professional work. Only thing I would recommend is when you pick out a laminate sample, ask if they can show you a photo of that floor on a completed job. Sometimes it is hard to tell from one sample piece what the finished floor will look like.

Les worked for me on three occasions, each time for fairly extensive periods, averaging 2 - 3 months each time. Originally, I wanted to fix up our old place before selling it. The bathrooms were the main area of interest, and he suggested using tile for the lavatories which had originally been done in cultured marble that had yellowed and stained over time. The finished results looked outstanding. When he had completed the majority of the original work, a roof leak following a storm damaged my wooden floors and the ceiling and wall sheetrock upstairs. A few months later, Les returned and re-floored partial sections of two upstairs rooms. The original flooring had been applied with glue, so it was extremely difficult to get the floor level again so that new wood could be laid, but he managed to do so, and the net result was that the new flooring blended in seamlessly. Damage to the ceiling was also repaired expertly. Finally, when we moved into our new place, Les 1) made a number of sheetrock repairs throughout the house, 2) repainted most of the house (2400 sq. feet with several flights of stairs), 3) removed the carpeting and refloored the downstairs bedroom/office using hardwood, and 4) built a custom wall-to-wall (8' wide by 8' high) bookcase in one of the upstairs rooms, and 4) applied an epoxy coating to the garage. I was extremely satisfied with the quality of all of the work and feel confident in saying that Les can take on any challenge given to him. He is also dependable and trustworthy.

Primary work was a bathroom remodel. DJ built a shower pan and enclosure, sheet rock, tile, texture and more. Also, did baseboards, trim and doors along with miscellaneous work in rest of house. He is a super guy and great handy man, but not what I would consider an expert craftsman in all phases of remodeling. There were a few things that needed correction and a few neglected details. But, he did A LOT of work for us over several weeks and at quite a value. There is no way I could have hired a tile expert, trim expert, plumbing expert or others to complete this work without spending twice the money. I'm probably being too critical of his work, but everything is done now and looking great. I can recommend him as a handy man and I will be hiring him again soon.

I needed the carpet, vinyl sheet and vinyl tiles removed from my house floor and replaced with vinyl stick down tiles through out the whole house and quarter-round added. Major subfloor preparation was needed as the concrete subfloor (foundation) was not smooth. Michael kept me advised how the project was going and what was needed to smooth the subfloor. He added an undercoating of glue to make sure the tiles would not loosen and was meticulous with details, as in painting and caulking the quarter-round and undercutting the fireplace so the tiles would fit, leaving no gaps. The job was located in Spring and took 7 working days. He was on time, courteous, and the quality of work was great. The floor looks super!

I hired Tom to demo my kitchen floor tile, install new floor tile and a backsplash, and also install the granite countertops in the kitchen. He was respectful, communicative, and competitively priced. He had 1 helper with him for the job, and he himself was on the site with his worker most of the time. The one thing I must rave about the most is the fact that even after receiving final payment, I had to ask him to come back and clean up some of the remaining grout work, and he did! I was worried with receiving payment that he wouldn't respond, but he did and was kind about it. So he made sure he did the job, and he finished it out correctly. I really appreciated that. I'd definitely consider him for future jobs. In addition, he had to work through my coordination with my cabinet installer, and he was a great team player. I truly was grateful for that as well.

Our water heater flooded the house, ruined the wood flooring and most of the sheet rock in the master bedroom. Not only can you not tell anything ever happened (and the wall treatments were venetian plaster) but now we have beautiful stained diamond cut floors. After that we've used Brennan to renovate the master bath and build a 1000 ft patio addition onto our property. Professional, responsive, and fairly priced. Will use him again in the future.

We absolutely love our floors and would highly recommend Hank and his crew! We purchased WPC Vinyl flooring because it is waterproof, isn't cold to walk on, and can easily be removed for resale purposes. Hank and his crew are extremely professional and were easy to work with from start to finish. Hank wants his customers to be happy and truly is a great guy.

Scope of work: Downstairs master bedroom/master bath addition, downstatirs tile & carpet replaced with new tile, all windows replaced with energy efficient vinyl windows, deck & patio upgrade, new interior french doors. What went well: Project results were very good - high quality work, on schedule, and under proposed budget including approved client change requests. What could be improved: City of Houston project approvals caused consrtuctions delays, but this was not in Cahal Contruction's control.

I had 600 square feet of "wood look" tile installed by SGC Tile and couldn't be more pleased. The floor looks great - solid and level. Saul did a good job of communicating with me as to when he would begin and end work for the day. I would highly recommend him as a tile installer.

RCI Renovations by Design was the perfect choice for our bathroom remodel. Our bathroom renovation took 3 weeks longer than scheduled but was on budget. We were pleased with the final outcome. Olivia and Marlon were professional, responsive to our ideas, questions and concerns and provided updates on activities and planned work throughout the renovation process. The design concept, demolition, electrical, flooring, tile work and cabinetry work was excellent. The plumbing sub wasn't as proficient as the other aspects (hence the delays) however any issues that were noticed by RCI or ourselves were immediately corrected. We would recommend and use RCI again for home projects. We love our new functional and stylish bathroom! Thanks Olivia and Marlon!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

    • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
    • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
      • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
    • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
    • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
      • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
    • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
      • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
      • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
      • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
        • Includes removal of the dura rock.
    • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

    • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
      • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
    • 620 square feet of maple floor:
      • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
      • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
        • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
