I can't say enough wonderful things about Joe. He was able to capture every special moment at my wedding. He was so easy to work with and was able to take all of the pictures that I had requested. Before the wedding he met with us to ask about our needs and our special requests for photographs. During the wedding I felt like he was everywhere and was able to capture all of the wedding. After the wedding I spoke with many of the guests and they were thoroughly impressed with how kind Joe was and how he was able to take pictures of everything during the wedding. Joe exceeded my expectations. After reviewing all of the photos I felt like I was reliving my wedding all over again. I was nervous and selecting a photographer who is really able to Capture the spirit of the wedding. I'm so happy that we picked Joe and the photographs turned out wonderfully! I would recommend him to any of my friends. He's a great photographer and his rates are completely reasonable!

Bryan Martin provided equipment for the karaoke at our son's wedding rehearsal dinner. I asked Bryan for additional songs and he provided everything that I asked for. He was very nice to work with. We actually chose to use him because he brought the equipment to the dinner location and picked it up the next day. Thanks, Bryan, for your outstanding service. The guests had a great time!

Let me start off by saying our highlight video of our wedding was amazing and so was Jay. He was engaging and worked well with our budget. I was very pleased with the highlight reel. However, when we received our flash drive (was told we would receive five disk, however we did not) we were very disappointed. We had to watch our video on the computer because the full video would not copy on the disk we had. I was so upset to see that my wedding entrance was not fully captured. My brother walked me down half way to our dad. That wasn’t captured fully and that was one of the precious moments I felt robbed of... EVERYTHING was overly zoomed in, making it very difficult to see the full event. The sound was not too great on the mics and neither was the filming quality, it appeared somewhat grainy. I was definitely looking forward to our full wedding video, because we were robbed of our wedding photos, yet again we were disappointed and will not be showing it the video to anyone.

IM HAPPY with my wedding pictures and how patient and very comfortable he make us to feel ! I CAN REALLY SEE that Ross love his job and its not all about money but about his passion for art ! You wont go wrong with him ! I VISIT lots of overpriced photografers thats more famous on name here and they dnt have same quality of equipment or a not very good image quality , lots pictures are yellow style or with out emotion on it . Eileen Blumenthal did a fantastic job as the photographer for our wedding! Her and her husband were committed to going the extra mile to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed. Our wedding was in late February (huge snow storm in Dallas!) and they drove an hour in a blizzard just to be there- not to mention the fact that they were hours early. If you are looking for high-end photographs for a budget friendly price- look no further! We highly recommend for all photography needs- uhhh-mazing! J - Chris & Sasha Sanders

We knew before hand that we would want something unique about our wedding. Minh took his time meeting us in person to discuss details and make sure we would get the shots we wanted as well as showing us what creative ideas he had for our wedding. If you want something more modern and unique, go with The Les Photography.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.
