I'm glad I took a chance on Mike, he didn't have any prior reviews. I liked how responsive he was. I had asked him a question and he responded quickly. He did a fantastic job on replacing my porch light. He arrived ahead of schedule which is always a plus. He was courteous and personable. When I said the light was slightly crooked, he spent time fixing it until I was satisfied. I would definitely use him again if I have any additional project.

I had Whiskey Creek Home Repairs do a variety of maintenance "chores" that I could not perform because of health concerns. Chris did things from remove a bird nest from my front porch eave to change all of the smoke detector batteries (5 rooms) to fix a toilet leaking problem to pressure wash the front walk and back patio to other fixes. All together I had a list of 6-7 various items and Chris was very thorough and efficient getting everything done. I was surprised how fast he was up and down the ladder! He did everything in a one hour span of time so the bill was extremely resonable. Both Chris and Cindy were extremely easy to work with to get my list done. When I spoke to Cindy several times on the phone, she was very polite and easy to talk to. I will now keep a list of things that need to be done and will always get Whiskey Creek to do them. He tore out my fireplace and sheet rocked and textured the new wall, he replaced my small porch poles with larger ones and found and repaired a leak on my roof. I would highly recommend Vic Searcy of Searcy Construction to anyone. His bid was very reasonable. He is a crew of 1 but works like 10 men. He does beautiful work and will come back and make it right if you are not happy. I say this because after he was done and paid out we primed the new wall and the seams seemed to pop out after we primed. This was not due to him making a mistake - it really could not be seen with the texture on the wall until the wall was primed. I texted him and told him about what happened and came out the next day to look at it and he repaired it within 2 days. This contractor does not leave you even after you have paid in full - HE WILL MAKE IT RIGHT! I understand the fear you may have about hiring a contractor but with Searcy Contruction your fears are unwarranted. I would hire again. In fact I would not seek any additional bids. He is trustworthy and will do a great job for you.

Great all around experience. Easy to work with, made sure everything that we wanted was completed to our satisfaction, and gave us great recommendations based on their experience. The final projects (back screened porch and small front deck) turned out great, even better than we initially hoped for. Would absolutely recommend and use again

Wade did a great job updating our porch. The porch was bowing and had rotting boards. He was able to fix the porch up so that we feel safe to use it again and it looks great too. I added on a few upgrades and he was able to go with the flow which I really appreciated!

After a miserable attempt at installing a flag mount myself, I miraculously found Billy. He responded professionally and super fast and came that evening to install my mount in a stone column on my front porch. I absolutely recommend Billy and wouldn't hesitate to contact him again for any work needed in my home.

Jenna Trust worked very hard to repair and repaint my front porch. She was very punctual and committed to the project. She did excellent work with a hammer and saw but her real talent and skills are with a paint brush. I have recently seen a large wooden sign that Ms.Trust both designed and painted. I wholeheartedly recommend Ms. Trust for home improvement projects.

Ismael and his brother, Anthony, were the best contractors I've worked with during the ongoing renovation of my house. They did exactly what they said they would in the time they said they'd do it and at the price they quoted. I was more than pleased by the work they did, and their money and time-saving suggestions were spot-on. I would hire them again in a heartbeat. They are fast, efficient, personable, and very trustworthy.

I hired Angel to remove and replace an interior window stool after it was damaged from my dog chewing on it. He and his partner arrived on time. They removed the existing damaged wood without harming any walls or the window. I provided the wood for the replacement and they trimmed/cut it to fit in place. They finished the job in about 30 minutes. I have no complaints.

            Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

            Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
