We loved Ed! Not only was the food DELICIOUS, but the service was outstanding. Ed is a real people person, and every visit we had felt comfortable. Ed and Amazing Caterers catered for my wedding on Oct. 7th 2016. All my guests loved the food and variety Amazing Caterers offer, and I even had the chefs checking on myself; always asking if I needed anything throughout the night. Ed also went above and beyond for us, and got us a quote and set up for flatware 3 days before the wedding when a crisis had hit! Thank you Ed, and thank you Amazing Caterers!!

We hired Marc for a private awards ceremony for the National Boys Scout of America. His BBQ is sensational, the smoked chicken was so tender. His BBQ should be in everyone's house and I really enjoyed the Caesar salad he prepared. As one chef (including my staff) to another we recognize true talent and all of here at WPG salute a true artist in the BBQ meats. We look forward to another fine menu prepared by him.

Luke cooked for us as we celebrated a milestone birthday dinner for 8 adults. He responded promptly with my online inquiry and we talked by phone later that day. Luke sent me several suggested menus and we tweaked a menu that was perfect for our dinner. Luke arrived promptly and made himself at home in the kitchen. Every bite of our 4 course meal was delicious and had great plate presentation. Luke loaded the dishwasher, washed the dishes, swept the floor and had leftovers packed up and put in the fridge while we enjoyed our dessert. Having a personal chef come to our house was a gift for the birthday girl and she was thrilled!

Buddy did a great job! The food was delicious and delivered on time with a smile. Buddy made me look good at our family reunion with his home cooking delivered to my sister's kitchen for the assembled aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers, cousins. Buddy was so easy to deal with - sight unseen - that I began to wonder if it was too good to be true. Would he deliver? The answer is yes. A real win-win that I recommend highly. Many thanks, Buddy & family.

This review is long long over due! Chef Cassy came to my home to cook for me, my family, and friends as a suprise for my birthday! I came home and she and her staff were already at work in my kitchen. The first thing I noted was that she and her staff were professionally dressed. I loved having a real life Chef in my house cooking for me!! I also noted that although she was cooking several dishes everything seemed to have it's schedule and the process ran smoothly. As it should since Chef Cassy is a professional chef. The food was delicious to say the least. The wonton stuffed with collards and ham are the BEST!! She also prepared salad and a grilled chicken Alfredo dish. I know chicken Alfredo seems like the standard run of the mill dish. Because to me, this dish seems standard. Enough so that, myself along with all of my guests couldn't stop raving about how hers really set a new bar for Grilled Chicken Alfredo! Even the salad which was again a seemingly simple dish was notably delicious and stood out amongst others I have eaten. As far as professionalism and interaction goes, I must say that Chef Cassy remained very professional. She and her staff stuck to what they came to do. But my friends and family being a bit more informal engaged Chef Cassy with conversation, questions, and raves. She blended very well into our relaxed environment as well. We all felt very comfortable with Chef Cassy and would certainly have her back again. I would recommend her to anyone looking for her services and suggest her to anyone who wasn't particularly looking. The whole experience was one I will not soon forget. Thank you Chef Cassy!!!

We had a pool party and rather than standing at the grill and taking orders, we decided to have the 4th of July party catered. So, of course we came to Thumbtack and searched for a caterer and we found JaredPierre. We got a quote and then reached out to Chef JaredPierre who walked us through the options. We came to an agreement and yesterday the food was delivered right on schedule. Sadly we didn’t get to meet the chef in person, but the food was amazing. Delicious, hot, and fresh. As usual we over-ordered and had lots of leftovers that all the partygoers were thrilled to take home as care packages (we kept most for ourselves). Next party - Chef JaredPierre is our caterer!

We recently hired Chef Tony for our wedding July 28, 2018. I did not know what to expect going into thumbtack experience for the first time nor how the catering experience is supposed to be like. However, I knew right away out of all the caterers I contacted/contacted me, that this was who I wanted to work with immediately! The pics of food looked amazing and non-traditional, which was extremely important to me! I have been to so many weddings with bland food, and promised myself, I would not do that to my guests! Tony hosted a tasting with my mother (60), my daughter (7) and myself (29). It's normally hard to please 3 generations, however, we all approved of the delicious appetizers, main courses and other dishes served. The drink options were delicious! We even had fruit and food to take home for seconds! Tony worked with our budget, worked with last-minute changes and provided excellent service the days leading up to the wedding (Bonus: he viewed venue a day prior to prevent surprises the day of) and arriving 15 minutes early to the venue scheduled arrival time the day of. The food was delicious as expected and we received many compliments on the dishes from guests. We were able to take food home and enjoy it one more time the next day. He also provided cake cutting service. Very thankful we were connected through thumbtack. I highly recommend Chef Tony and his team! *Shout out to the bartender we also were able to hire, referred by him! She was awesome and assisted with being a liaison the day of! Thanks, The Millers

We hired Lynn to make my wedding cake as well as the Grooms cake and we had an excellent experience! She first met with us for a tasting and we fell in love with the champagne icing! The cake was moist and flavor was comparable to some of the high end bakeries we had tastings at, but her pricing is WAY more reasonable! We decided to do 3 different flavors on the bridal/ grooms cake and she was more than happy to accommodate that and even suggested which frosting flavors we should get with each cake flavor. As for the design of the cake, I showed her a couple of pictures of what I liked, which was a simple white cake with some floral and swirl piping and she nailed it! Even more impressive was what she did for the grooms cake! My husband (fiancé at the time) just described to her what his vision was and we were so impressed with how it looked when we saw it at our wedding! My only complaint would be that the cake at the wedding was slightly dry compared to the cake we had at the tasting, but I suppose such is the case with most bakeries! We were very pleased with Lynn at Bake My Day Bakery and I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a beautiful cake at a reasonable price!

Highly recommended! They provided my wife and I with everything I needed for my event for 800 people. They also gave me a really great deal and were very flexible with my budget. On thumbtack I went through many catering companies and all of them were either overpriced or the food quality was below average. In addition I loved how they provided me a beverage bar with Hibiscus based drinks and organic lemonades. I especially loved their Lavender Cheesy Bread and Cherry Lime Hibiscus. Servers and Owners were prompt and the bartending service specialized in specialty cocktails that were smoked or traditional. Either way Spiced Lavender Catering is very professional and very fast to respond on any questions that I had. Also they are great for casual or high end venues that include weddings and corporate events. I cant thank them enough for saving me alot of stress at the last moment and they exceeded my expectation in everything from food to the exceptional service. Again I also cant thank them enough for being flexible with my timing and budget. Thanks Chef Nina.

The tasting for the event was outstanding. Such an amazing presentation on the plate of the entree. I was also impressed by the chef who took the time to serve us himself and give a detail description of the meal. Our sales contact Lisa was amazing as well very knowledgeable and professional. Will definitely recommend them to others.

I arranged for Cari to host a cooking event for my husband's birthday. My husband loves to cook, so instead of using her as a personal chef, she taught my husband and my mother-in-law how to make homemade ravioli and cannoli. She was incredibly patient and helpful and they thoroughly enjoyed the evening. In the end, I enjoyed the dinner. Big thanks to Cari!

Roger and the Soiree Chef Group are simply outstanding. We cannot say enough good things about the care they took with respect to the arrangements, special dietary needs, execution on the day of the event and the kindness, courtesy and good humor with which they provided their services. Also, the quality of the food is exceptional. The savory item menu was prepared in detail consultation with us, and the presentation of the items was aesthetically very sophisticated. The pastry chef's creations are divine. We would recommend the Soiree Chef Group with great enthusiasm and look forward to working with them in the near future. KS and RS, Dallas

Chefs Table was more concerned about me having aunique experience that my guest would remember. They prepared a brunch buffet for 50 of my guest and the food was delicious. What impress me the most was that there wasn't a set menue. Chef Debra consulted with me as to what I would like to have and even suggested items that I would have never thought of. If you give them a try, you will not be disapointed. I will call them again.

We asked Missy to cater our breakfast and lunch for a film shoot. And she went above and beyond. I had to make a bunch of changes in a short time frame because we were still in the planning stages of our shoot trying to figure out how many people to feed etc. and she handled it like a rock star! She showed up early, stayed within my budget, and made sure everyone was happy. She cleaned up after breakfast and lunch. She even brought Tupperware so we could take home the leftovers. Couldn't have been happier with the experience. Definitely, hire her if you need a caterer.

I wanted to learn how to cook so I could make fancy dinners for my wife. Randy was able to teach me how to cook even though I have zero skills in the kitchen. He is an excellent teacher, patient, and always willing to help. He started by teaching proper techniques and now after 2 weeks I feel like I can cook anything. If you're looking to learn how to cook or just want a private chef I highly recommend Randy.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

How much should catering cost per person?

Catering prices can range from about $10 per guest on the low end to $150 or more per person on the high end. Catering costs represent the quality of food, presentation, variety, ingredients and service. But catering prices are more than the cost to cook the food that will be at your party; they also include the cost for the company to do business. Here is a simple breakdown of catering prices:

  • Menu: The food you serve your guests will directly affect the price per person. Organic ingredients, complex recipes, elaborate presentations, or high-ticket items like lobster or filet mignon all add to the cost.
  • Service: Buffet, family style, plated dinners — how you serve the food affects the cost per person. For example, a true plated meal can cost about twice the price of a staff-assisted buffet because of staffing costs. Hiring waiters, bartenders and cleanup crew will all be calculated into the per-person catering price.
  • Drinks: Providing beverages and alcoholic drinks for guests greatly increases your catering budget. Hosting an open bar can cost as much per person as the meal.
  • Rentals: Seating, plates, glassware, etc., will all have an effect on the cost per person for catering. For example, a plastic conference table that seats 10 costs about $6 to rent on average, while a wooden farmhouse table is about $80 to rent on average.
  • Business costs: Any catering cost will also include the cost for the company to do business such as insurance, employee wages, commercial kitchen space and more.
