Hired Mauricio to come look at and repair our LG washer that was leaking. Mauricio had already looked up info on our particular model and was very prepared to diagnose the problem. He promptly found the problem, went out to buy the part and fixed the 2 leaks he found. His fees are very reasonable and affordable. I will definitely keep his number for future problems with any appliance. Mauricio is the best handy-man I have used.

I hereby proclaim Rene Burrola "The Magic Man." After another Thumbtack service provider came and proclaimed my 20-year-old water heater officially dead - even after attempting all possible repairs - and failing to close the deal on installing a new one, Platinum IAQ Specialist Inc. came along and fixed the problem with a wave of his magic wand. Loved his attitude from the moment he uttered something to the effect of "ain't nothing can't be fixed." He had the tricky pilot on my tank re-lit and pumping hot water in less time than his competitor could quote me a price on a replacement unit, which was going to cost me $730. Oh, and by the way, I told them to go ahead and deliver, but they failed to call back. Meantime, Magic Man Rene ran to my rescue. It was the most pleasant service call in my five years of home ownership. And to think Rene said servicing hot-water heaters is secondary to his AC/Heating expertise. He said he also services most major appliances, and can handle plumbing duties, too. I know who I'll call first next time I need most things done around this house - Rene Borrola, The Magic Man.

My family and I are very pleased with Texas State Remodeling, Thank you for coming here at a very short notice. Thanks to Rick, my newborn baby was welcomed to a WARM home. My husband had called several repairman, to fix my heater, but all would say it was too costly to fix and would take days to find the parts needed, they all wanted to sell me a new one....yeah okay!!! That was definitely not in our budget, but Rick was a angel sent from Heaven! ! Not only did he FIX my heater, but also checked the smoke alarms, carbon monoxide, and my gas appliances , making sure we were safe in this cold weather season! Something we didn't even think of for our safety of our family especially our newborn baby. Rick had all the parts he needed to fix our heater on hand, and was prompt in his work, was very courteous, and Extremely Reasonable with his price!! Thank you Texas State Remodeling for your service!! I most definitely will be recommending Texas State Remodeling to all my friends and family! !! Tammy H. Thompson

Easy. Fast, professional service. Price was more than estimate by $90, but needed the work done. Bottom line, assuming things still working in a week, worth it.

We have not yet had Bobby do any actual work. Bobby came out and gave us a quote and some recommendations for what our dishwasher install will entail. I’m leaving a review because he was super helpful in explaining everything and since we have all the info we need we realize we need to up our budget to get a good dishwasher. We will be using him when the time comes and I’ll be updating this review or adding another. I would recommend Bobby based on what I know so far.

David came out the same day, which was sooo helpful because my dryer quit working in the middle of doing laundry. I recently moved into a house and hadn't used it before. David replaced the door switch for me and also took a look at my Refrigertor ice maker that wasn't producing ice. He tried a simple fix for that first instead of replacing the entire ice maker.

I take the time to help at the customers convenience at the very best price. I like to guide the customer on why its so important to know all the maintenance because its very important to prevent major problems like leaks in AC system, this way they'll save on the AC energy bill, and not to overwork the compresser and other components. By maintaining the right maintenance AC equipment it will be more efficient for years to come.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
